About this house rental

Summary:

Come home from a Kohala Coast beach day to the cooler air and wide Pacific views of Waikoloa Village. Set about 1,000 feet above sea level, this two-bedroom, two-bath home sleeps six and catches trade winds from its ocean-view lanai, with central air conditioning when the afternoon runs warm. The primary suite opens to the lanai and has a jetted tub and two-head walk-in shower. Cook together in the granite kitchen, gather around the six-person table, and use the grill for a low-key dinner as the sun drops. Beach chairs, umbrellas, and coolers are ready for the next outing, and guests receive discounted rates at the nearby Waikoloa Village Golf Course. The home is reached by one flight of stairs and shares a laundry room with a long-term lower-level tenant. It works well for a family that values quiet, views, and a homey reset between island adventures.

The Space:

This two-bedroom, two-bath home sleeps six and is arranged for easy group time, with two sofas, a queen sofa bed, and a granite kitchen with an island and six-person table. French doors in the primary suite open to the lanai, where the ocean view and trade winds set the tone. Central air conditioning, a jetted tub, and a two-head walk-in shower bring extra comfort after beach days.

Guest Access:

Guests at this Waikoloa Village home enjoy access to a shared community pool, a private entrance, and a patio or balcony for outdoor time. Beach essentials are provided for days on the coast.

The Neighborhood:

Waikoloa Village sits above the Kohala Coast, about 1,000 feet up from the resort shoreline. The elevation often brings cooler breezes, long ocean views, and a quieter residential feel than Waikoloa Beach Resort. A small village center handles groceries and casual meals, while the beaches, restaurants, and shops at Waikoloa Beach Resort are a drive away. Anaeho'omalu Bay is a good choice for a beach day, and the village golf course gives golfers a close option. This is the Big Island for families who prefer breathing room and sunset views over being in the middle of the resort bustle.

Getting Around:

Kona International Airport is about 25 to 30 minutes away. A rental car is recommended because beaches, restaurants, and resort shopping are a short drive from this upcountry community. Waikoloa Village has a small center with groceries and casual dining.

Other Things to Note:

Located on the second floor, accessed via one flight of steps. Please note, this home has a lower-level unit occupied by a long-term tenant, and the laundry room is shared with that unit. Quiet hours should be observed after 9pm.

Interaction with Guests:

Our local Heavenly Vacations Hawaii Island team is just a call or message away throughout your stay. From Kona sunsets to Volcano adventures, we love sharing our favorite places to enjoy on the Big Island, and we are here to help right away should any issue arise. We respect your privacy and are here whenever you need us.

Overall it was a great stay. The house is as pictured with everything you need for a vacation with a small family. The kitchen was very well stocked and also had some leftover pantry staples from past guests. There were lots of leftover beach supplies — chairs, boogie boards, kid snorkels, beach toys — some in better shape than others. The bbq on the lanai was a nice bonus for dinners. The drawbacks, for us:The king bed in the master bedroom was VERY firm. At one point we tried adding the “extra mattress” from the closet, which was really just a flimsy foam pad, but it didn’t even help. The twin beds in the kids room were super creaky and my kid doesn’t even weigh that much. While the AC was wonderful and worked great, the filters were absolutely filthy. We were there during some major volcanic activity so that could be forgiven but it was quite the build up on all four units. The ice maker leaked while we were there and I got zero response from my message letting them know that was happening. The lack of response was more of an issue than the ice maker leaking. The long term tenant downstairs was lovely but as others have mentioned he is a smoker and it meant we couldn’t use our lanai or have our windows open sometimes. We could also hear his tv quite clearly even with windows closed and could distinctly hear when he sneezed, which seems absurd since I can’t hear someone sneeze downstairs in my own house. So just be aware that the floor/walls are quite thin.

The property is very clean and comfortable. We really enjoyed our brief but happy stay.

Although the property had everything we needed, we encountered unexpected functional items. The ice maker did not work. We called the 800 number for assistance, and they seemed to want us to troubleshoot it by taking it apart. We had to leave for a tour, so they sent maintenance. Maintenance told us it dispensed ice when they were there, but it never dispensed ice the 5 days following the maintenance call, so we bought ice. The hot water heater was on an undisclosed timer. We learned of it after running out of hot water about 8 am. We then called the 800 number and they had us check the hot water heater for electricity. There was none as the timer was in the off position. The unit was no smoking as desired, but the downstairs tenant smoked outside regularly and we could smell it. The quiet hours also seemed a bit restrictive as all laundry needed to be done between 8 am - 9 pm. As all tastes are different, this comment is for informational purposes only, the master bed is extremely firm.
