Wailoa River State Park offers easy walking paths and bridges, while the Hilo Farmers Market, local cafes, and Lili'uokalani Gardens are all close to town. Rainbow Falls and Akaka Falls are worthwhile drives when you want to see the green side of the island at full force. This is a good fit for couples who value local food, slower mornings, and day trips through rainforest country.



Getting Around:

Hilo is just about 10 minutes from Hilo International Airport, making it one of the most convenient Big Island bases. A rental car is recommended for reaching Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and the lush Hamakua Coast, though downtown Hilo itself is quite walkable, with farmers markets, local shops, and waterfront dining within easy reach on foot. Parking is generally simple, with street spots and small lots nearby.
