Come and recharge in this slice of paradise—our beautiful ancestral home, located just 30 minutes from Old Quebec. Dating back to 1669, this house allows you to enjoy all the comfort and warmth of a traditional lifestyle. Situated at the end of a country lane in the village of Saint-Jean on Île d'Orléans, you will be charmed by the peaceful grounds and the beauty of the St. Lawrence River, which is just a 5-minute walk away.

The Accommodation:
Built over 300 years ago, "La maison de l'île" is one of the oldest homes in the Americas. It exudes historic charm, featuring stone walls, a majestic fireplace, a traditional miller's staircase, a pantry (laiterie), and glimpses of history scattered throughout the rooms.
We have done our utmost to make the house comfortable while respecting the architectural constraints of the era. Consequently, the ceilings are 7 feet high; while this adds to the home's heritage value, it may be a drawback for some guests. The traditional staircase does not have a handrail or guardrail, which may pose safety challenges for young children or individuals with limited mobility. Please contact us regarding this if necessary.
Otherwise, the house is fully equipped to welcome families or groups of friends, offering a very comfortable—and, we hope, unforgettable—country-style getaway.
The 65,000-square-foot property is set well back from the road, creating a true haven of peace. A 9-person hot tub allows you to enjoy the tranquility and the Nordic lifestyle in any season.
Other things to note:
In winter, the slope leading up to the residence can be difficult to navigate during icy conditions or storms. For this reason, all-wheel drive is required. We do not provide roadside assistance for vehicles.

What a special place to call home while visiting Ile d’Orleans! It had everything we needed to feel like home- modern comfort in a beautiful historic home!

The feeling that we were participating in history was overwhelming. When the house was built in 1673, Shakespeare had completed his entire written work only sixty years earlier. This historic edifice has survived the turmoil of centuries but meticulous renovation has made it a complete delight to enjoy in this era. The furnishings are comfortable and the appliances provided were very high quality. The house is so welcoming it almost hugs you. Two exceptions: The stairs without an adequate handrail, that provide the only access to the bedrooms on the upper floor, were very challenging for this 89 year-old.
The garden adjacent to the house was overgrown giving this treasure of a property a somewhat menacing, neglected look. First impressions count for so much. Attention needed here.
