About this apartment rental

Crowstep Cottage is a charming two-bedroom ground-floor apartment in the heart of Crail, perfect for a relaxing East Neuk escape.

Lovingly updated and thoughtfully styled, Crowstep Cottage is a welcoming ground-floor apartment that combines modern comforts with the traditional character of one of Fife’s prettiest fishing villages. Named after the distinctive crowstep gables found on traditional East Neuk fishermen’s houses, the cottage is full of coastal charm. With everything arranged on one level, two bedrooms and a peaceful central location, it’s an ideal base for couples, families, golfers and anyone looking to enjoy the coast, countryside and food of the East Neuk.

Set on historic Marketgate, Crowstep Cottage is perfectly placed for enjoying Crail on foot. The village’s independent baker, butcher and greengrocer are close by, while the picturesque harbour and beach are just a short downhill stroll away. Spend a morning exploring the quaint streets, pick up fresh local produce for dinner, pop into the Pottery and gallery or wander down to the harbour to watch the fishing boats and enjoy the sea air.

Enter into the central hallway, where calming blue tones immediately create a relaxed coastal feel. The bright, dual-aspect lounge is a lovely space in which to unwind after a day exploring. Plantation shutters provide privacy while still allowing you to watch village life go by. Curl up in one of the comfortable armchairs with a book from the cottage’s selection, or settle beside the wood-burning stove and warm up after a bracing walk along the Fife Coastal Path.

A dedicated dining area within the lounge has a table and seating for four, providing a comfortable spot for leisurely breakfasts, family meals or dinner after a day exploring the local food scene. Across the hall is the shower room, complete with a walk-in shower.
The compact galley-style kitchen makes clever use of the available space and is equipped with everything you need for a self-catering stay. With the village’s excellent local shops nearby, it’s easy to pick up fresh bread, meat, vegetables and other local produce to enjoy back at the cottage.
Both bedrooms are tucked away at the rear of the property, creating a peaceful space for a good night’s sleep. The double bedroom is decorated in rich, restful shades, with a quality mattress and fresh coastal air helping you settle into a relaxing night’s sleep.
The second bedroom features a zip-and-link king-size bed, which can be arranged as a twin on request. This flexible arrangement makes the room equally suitable for children, friends or adults sharing.

Tastefully decorated throughout, with carefully chosen artwork, furnishings and accessories, Crowstep Cottage has been designed to feel welcoming from the moment you arrive. It’s somewhere to unpack, slow down and enjoy the simple pleasures of a stay by the sea.

Crail is an excellent base for exploring the wider East Neuk. The beautiful coastal villages of Anstruther, Cellardyke, St Monans and Pittenweem are all within easy reach, with scenic coastal paths linking much of the coastline. Anstruther, around 10 minutes by car, is home to the Scottish Fisheries Museum and is a great place to enjoy fish and chips by the harbour or set off on a boat trip to the Isle of May, famous for its puffins and other seabirds during the spring and summer months.

For golfers, the area is hard to beat. Crail Golfing Society, home to the historic Balcomie Links and the spectacular Craighead Links, is just a few minutes away, while the world-famous courses of St Andrews are approximately a 20-minute drive from the cottage. The Old Course, Kingsbarns and numerous other renowned links courses are all within easy reach, making Crowstep Cottage a superb base for a golfing break.
Beyond the coast, the surrounding Fife countryside offers opportunities for walking and cycling, while St Andrews provides a wonderful day out with its ancient university, cathedral ruins, castle, beaches, independent shops and excellent choice of cafés and restaurants.

Whether you’re planning a family break filled with beach days and coastal walks, a golfing getaway with some of Scotland’s finest links courses on your doorstep, or a food-focused escape exploring the East Neuk’s renowned seafood, local producers, cafés and restaurants, Crowstep Cottage makes a comfortable and characterful base for discovering Fife.
