About this cottage rental

Escape to the beauty of the west of Ireland at Mayfly Cottage, a charming traditional thatched cottage set along the famous Glann Road on the shores of magnificent Lough Corrib. Surrounded by mature gardens, lush woodland and peaceful walking trails, this character-filled retreat combines traditional Irish charm with modern comfort in one of County Galway’s most scenic settings.

Just five minutes from the lively village of Oughterard – known as the gateway to Connemara – Mayfly Cottage offers the perfect balance of peaceful countryside and convenience. Galway City is approximately 25 minutes away, while the mountains, lakes and spectacular landscapes of Connemara are right on your doorstep.

Perfect for families and friends, the cottage accommodates up to 6 guests across three bedrooms and three bathrooms. Traditional features and a cosy cottage atmosphere are complemented by a bright sunroom, comfortable living and dining space and everything needed for a relaxing stay.

The ground floor features a welcoming living and dining room, fully equipped kitchen, sunroom, main bathroom with shower and a separate utility room. Upstairs you'll find three individually arranged bedrooms overlooking the gardens. The main bedroom features a king-size bed and adjoining bathroom with shower, while the two additional bedrooms offer a standard double and small double bed, with another bathroom conveniently located on the same floor.

The fully equipped kitchen includes a Rangemaster cooker, Nespresso coffee machine, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and microwave, while the utility room provides a washing machine and dryer – ideal for longer stays and outdoor adventures.

Outside, the cottage is surrounded by lovingly maintained gardens with a pergola, outdoor furniture and BBQ, creating a wonderful space for relaxed breakfasts, summer evenings and enjoying the peaceful surroundings.

Set on the shores of Lough Corrib, Ireland's largest lake, Mayfly Cottage is particularly well suited to those who love the outdoors. Oughterard is internationally renowned for fishing, particularly brown trout and salmon, with boats available to hire nearby along the Glann Road. Guests can also enjoy lake cruises, woodland walks, hiking, cycling and golf at the nearby Oughterard Golf Club.

For those wishing to explore further, Oughterard provides an excellent starting point for discovering Connemara, Clifden, Kylemore Abbey, Connemara National Park, Cong and Ashford Castle, while Galway City is close enough for an easy day or evening trip.

Whether you're fishing on Lough Corrib, exploring the wild landscapes of Connemara, discovering Galway City or simply relaxing among the gardens and woodland, Mayfly Cottage offers a wonderfully peaceful base for experiencing the west of Ireland.
