A very disappointing experience

Property

Booked our usual room weeks in advance. Arrived to the manager telling us she gave it to a couple staying a week. No call or message sent to us ahead of time. We are regulars. We were than given a room with no Bay view, small TV, close to the check in station which was noisy and could view into our room, so curtains and sliding door needed to remain closed, room was dirty and needed upkeep. Manager was rude and disrespectful. We were staying every other week for husband medical treatment. They were aware of this. Other staff kind, yet could not change managers orders, and told us of her deceit, she also took away our returning discount that usual receptionist gave us. Manager said we could stay in a no view room in the future. It was so disappointing for us, but had no choice but to stay for husband's next day treatment. In past we had stayed 3 nights. Other week's, one night prior to Dr appointments. There is much more to her disrespectful treatment of the last two visits. One of which we just thought she was having a bad day. Last reservation we were told and decided, it was just her way of control. Guess she didn't like my husband's Stage 4 diagnosis.

No ac(however our room had the ocean view breeze and the fan was provided which our room did not feel hot at all) , no elevator, our balcony door had no privacy curtain it was just see through glass

The Hilo Reeds Bay Hotel is an old hotel and could use some updates, but it is freshly painted and the rooms are clean. Five minutes to the airport and exceptionally affordable. The people who work there are friendly and accommodating.

As mentioned earlier, the building is old and the inside could use a remodel.

Try is is my second two-week stay with my group and I will come here again next year.

excellent location to see all the many different natural areas on the Big Island. VERY clean. Parking lot night watchmen. Great value.

gGreat location and super staff!

The staff! The wonderful people at the desk and Albert the all-around handyman was so helpful and went out of his way a handful of times in just one day to help me, a bikepacker. Location of great, too. Very clean.

it’s run down - but we’re low maintenance travelers and need a clean bed and bathroom - this was perfect and affordable so we didn’t mind that it’s run down

Old established basic hotel from 1960's era , comfortable and cheap with helpful staff.

Easy to find , near to bus stop , free car parking very helpful security men , nice view of reeds bay , nice little swimming pool. micro wave and big fridge freezer and nice park next to hotel. Cheapest hotel in local area.

No kettle for hot water for tea etc , no smoking allowed on balcony had to go to outside area near to garbage bin ??? Stairs only no lift , hard for older people with heavy luggage. No air conditioning but two fans just acceptable . Television / visage system useless kept switching off every five minutes and internet slow and unreliable ?

out dated not clean balcony in my room was approximately 12”x36”- not a true balcony. Ants and small bugs were bad, we were stung 3 separate times.

A good value hotel if you are willing to excuse everything else

budget friendly small hotel, if you are gonna constantly travel out then it’s fine.

carpet was dirty and had stains, chairs were also dirty, and all the plates and glass silverware and everything were all smelly for some reason no key card access, the way you access rooms are with a standard door key, doesn’t seem very secure wi-fi is trash, and the signals on the tv is always glitchy. overall the amenities for this place aren’t great. I forgot to mention for some reason the shower was difficult to work, like there is no warm water there’s only hot or cold and if you try to turn it either way it’s gonna go fully cold or fully hot :(

Exceptional

It was our first time visiting big island and we stay at the kona side, we scheduled for the Hilo side, but we thought we scheduled for Thursday and it was for Wednesday, so long story short the Hotel manager and the staff were soo polite and they honored the reservation that was sooo nice of them, very nice experience, and very nice hotel, stuff and town. If you have the opportunity to visit, stay at this place. 👌

An absolute no-no.

This is just horrifying. Dirty rooms, bad smelling bathrooms and showers(smells like pee), old not well taken care of building. Nothing was clean, chair had oil and dirts stains, pubic HAIR on the bathroom floor, no AC. I couldn’t take a shower! It was simply disgusting. Cheap old motel experience for the price of a resort hotel - beyond unfair.
