The Robey, Chicago, a Member of Design Hotels

Cool place with lots of stuff - roof deck, pool, restaurant. They have completely beverages in the mini fridge and coffee is free in the restaurant

It was very small. Turning on/off the lights was challenging - I had to call for help. The shower didn’t have colder settings which was a problem because it was so hot outside.

Loved location staff was amazing so nice and welcoming ; loved the game room and restaurant was great

Price was extremely steep

The Robey is a landmark of Chicago. The staff were incredibly warm and attentive, making the whole stay feel effortless. And the location is unbeatable right in one of the best areas of Chicago, with everything you could want nearby. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a hotel with real character in a great part of the city.

- When we went to bed the first night, we found that the sheets weren’t clean. There was what looked like food stains (or worse?) and crumbs in the bed (still trying to figure that one out). Since housekeeping wasn’t there at night, we had to change rooms at 12am. No one on staff seemed to really care- someone came by to give new keys but no one apologized or followed up- which seems strange for a 4 star hotel. Even when I mentioned it at checkout, the front desk person said “ok” and nothing else. - Rooms are not sound proof at all and walls are thin- we could hear the tv in the room next door loud and clear and banging from above, and the train coming by every 5-10 mins. (Our room was directly outside the L, like very directly- eye level with passengers. I actually didn’t mind this as one of the quirks of the old building, and don’t mind the train sounds, I imagine this might not be the room for everyone.) - While I appreciate the quirkiness of the rooms, our room was oddly and not practically designed. Small things but create the overall experience. The sink splashes, doors to shower and toilet that bang into each other, there was not enough room next to the sink to put your stuff, the pipe intended to hang your clothes isn’t high enough for long items so they drag on the floor. - There was construction being done to the downstairs restaurant the day we checked out. It was incredibly loud, which made any of the lobby and restaurant totally unavailable. - With all of this, this just didn’t seem like a $500/night stay. I expected a certain level of comfort and service and there were improvements that could be made.
