Unfortunately, this was a very disappointing and stressful experience from start to finish.
Even at the beginning of the booking process, we found Novascal’s lack of communication worrying and frustrating. When I originally booked the property back in April, I contacted Booking.com specifically to clarify whether there would be any additional costs. I was told and assured that there were no extra charges apart from the tourist tax. This made the additional charges we were later faced with particularly concerning and frustrating.
The apartment itself was not clean, despite the additional €200 cleaning charge. The property was advertised as having three bathrooms, but only two were available to us because the door to the third bathroom was locked.
There were also several additional charges that significantly increased the overall cost of our stay: €200 for cleaning, €15 per day for electricity, and €20 per person for bed linen and towels. These costs amounted to more than €380 in additional charges. Given that I had specifically contacted Booking.com before the stay and had been assured that there were no additional costs apart from the tourist tax, we feel these charges were not made sufficiently clear or transparent before booking.
The accommodation itself was also uncomfortable. All of the beds were uncomfortable, and the living-room furniture was dated and uncomfortable. There was also no air conditioning in the property. We were provided with a few fans, but they did not work particularly well, which made the accommodation uncomfortable, especially during warm weather.
The checkout experience was particularly stressful and, in our opinion, completely unacceptable. At 5:00am, just as we were preparing to leave for our flight, the cleaner arrived to inspect the property. She accused us of breaking a door and initially refused to return our deposit. She then contacted a colleague, who confirmed that the damage had actually been caused by them.
