Beautiful grounds, very friendly staff and good location

I think the lodges can be modernised and quality of breakfast can improve

We stayed in a room in the little cottage which was very comfortable and pretty. The hotel had a lovely atmosphere, with great history and in a good location to explore the local areas.

The location was amazing. Had everything we needed and a great view.

It was a smidge run down. Needs a bit of a refresh and no Wi fi so on the TV we could only get one channel !!

The building appears very grand and the grounds are lovely especially if you are coming for the golf. The lodges are nice and location is convenient for Canterbury and Dover.

In general I feel the place could be so much better than it is - it is just missing a bit of love and care. The restaurant calls itself fine dining - it really isn’t and the website pictures are nothing like the food received!! The restaurant at first glance looks nice but looking closer the carpet is disgusting, wall lights not working, chandelier really dirty and dusty and the place just needs a bit of attention. The server we had didn’t have a clue about the menu. We ate there twice and both meals were quite disappointing. We felt they were a cook rather than a chef. Small Salmon Caesar salad seems easy and yet was over drenched in sauce and Parmesan, huge portion rammed into a small bowl that’s difficult to eat out of. Next night I paid £26 for a chicken supreme which was not at all - it was a plain breast with a bit of pea purée with a ramekin of plain raw red onion, corn and tomato. Poor. Lodges are pretty good, beds and pillows and general observation again just need a bit of attention and could be improved. Overall it was a reasonable stay but due to some of the things mentioned I don’t think I’d stay again or if I did I’d eat out.
