RELAX OFF THE BEATEN PATH!
About this house rental
Nestled in Big Bend National Park, this charming house for $153 per night is a fantastic choice for your next vacation. This is one of the very few nightly rentals that provides an automatic backup generator in the event of power outage to south Brewster County. Bring your camera and get ready to relax! Drive or Fly-in! The choice is yours. We take great pains to insure that our facility is sanitized and disinfected as much as possible between visiting guests. This is a 107 acre property full of wildlife, cactus, birds and hiking. This is a NON-smoking and No Pet rental. There is a $250 fee for violation of either of these policies. This property is accessible by car (the last 3 miles is a well maintained gravel road). The RV is a 34' 2018 Jayco Eagle Series bumper pull with two queen beds. This RV is equipped with huge flat screen TV, wifi, bluetooth stereo, double-door refrig/freezer, oven, range, outdoor gas grill, a gas griddle and a wood fired barbque pit with mesquite provided. This also comes equipped with 2 factory A/Cs and central heat, coffee pot with timer and a counter top icemaker. You will also find on-site a large charcoal/wood bar-b-q pit and lots of mesquite wood to cook with. Also at the disposal of the customer is a 10'x 45' covered wooden deck with chairs and a ceiling mounted mister system for hot summer days. Beautiful views of Bell Mountain, White Horse Mtn and the Christmas Mtns can all be seen from this vantage point, none more than a mile and a half from the porch. This deck is also equipped with five 8' roll down screens for additional comfort from extreme heat. Of course there is a propane gas fire pit and a Chiminea with ample pinion pine firewood for cold winter days and nights. Enjoy the viewing of scaled quail, eurasian and white winged doves, mule deer, javelina, fox, coyote, ravens and red-tailed hawks. Blackbear, mountain lions and bobcats have also been seen close to the house. Absolutely no hunting or discharge of firearms is allowed. This home is completely dependant on rainfall. We request that all visitors limit their water consumption. These quarters come with a 6 gallon water heater which helps reduce long showers. Due to the various types of wildlife in the area and customer allergies, we have a no pet policy that is strictly enforced. There is also a $250 fee for violation of this policy. There is a home on-site which is the owners private residence and customers are not permitted with it's use. If you Fly-in, we can arrange to have you picked up and provide you a 6-person UTV for rental if requested. Area attractions include but are not limited to: Big Bend National Park (with access to a rowboat ride into Old Mexico for lunch and shopping), Big Bend Ranch State Park, Terlingua Ghostown, Lajitas Golf Resort, a beautiful River Road trip along the Rio Grande to Presidio, TX, chartered rafting down the Rio Grande through Santa Elena Canyon or Boquillas Canyon, and dinner at the Starlight Theatre in the ghostown. You are welcome to bring your own mountain bikes, ATV’s or UTV’S and ride out right from your front door. This property is a scenic 40 minute drive from the National Park. Closer to home (1/2mile south) , you will find the Terlingua Ranch Headquarters office open 7 days a week, along with a cabana and bath house at the swimming pool. The ranch headquarters area also has a 7 day a week/ 3 meals a day café known as "The Bad Rabbit". We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We wanted to be able to explore Big Bend National Park a few days and also enjoy the dark sky and stars. Staying here allowed us to do both. We were blessed with also striking up a friendship with the owners. They were a delightful couple, interesting to chat with and very accommodating.

If you need a place to lay your head, the r.v. is perfect. It shares a covered area with the main house where the owners reside but they give you space. The r.v. is quite spacious and offers many accommodations like satellite tv and there is also a hot tub available. If you are looking for a more intimate setting, the barndomenium is it! Tucked in behind the main house and r.v., the barndo has its own hot tub and wildlife comes right up to the area to feed. Perfect for those that may find life easier with a bath tub and more of a home away from home feel. The dark sky rule makes for a wonderful time to see the night sky and shooting stars. Even with the 6 gallon hot water heater, there was plenty of water to bathe and shower comfortably. Be sure to bring bottled water for drinking but there is some drinking water provided in case you forget. It is a good 20 miles to the gas station so plan accordingly. And, if you can handle dirt roads (that were freshly grated when we went so it was extremely bumpy) then you will love it here! We will definitely be coming back with our family next time!

We made a concerted effort to reach this location before dark and it’s a good thing we did. This is dark sky territory and it is absolutely breathtaking. It’s like being able to see EVERY SINGLE STAR! Our short stay included sightings of deer, javelina, wild burros and coyotes. Our hosts were wonderful. Highly recommended!

Our first trip to Big Bend and we had so many adventures! We saw so much wildlife from the camper from the minute we arrived. So quiet and peaceful and the hot tub much welcomed after days of hiking. It's not complicated to find but if you prefer to navigate via google maps download one prior as there is no service after the main road turn off. We had a wonderful time!

Very nice property. Excellent location. Wonderful hosts.
Late spring warms up fast in the Big Bend. The property had strong AC, and a choice of shaded areas that caught a pleasant breeze.
The location is close by Terlingua Ranch HQ which has a nice restaurant. The surrounding area is stunning West Texas desert/mountains.
The hosts, Mark and Michelle, were very friendly and helpful.

We had a great trip to BBNP and this was a fabulous place to return to every evening. It was very nice being able to grill every night. The RV was comfortable and very clean. Water pressure not great but it’s the desert. Location is incredible. Every night sat on the porch with a glass of wine looking at the most incredible scenery. I will most definitely stay here again!

Our family found this well appointed camper to be perfect for our escape to explore Big Bend National Park. Mark and Michelle were excellent hosts with great communication along the way. Property is beautiful, especially at sunrise and sunset as you have a panorama of mountains all around you. This was our first experience staying in a camper and would definitely consider this option again.

My wife & I loved our stay with Mark, Michelle & Chula. They have a beautiful piece of land & couldnt be any nicer people. The RV was comfortable & had everything we needed. We really enjoyed sitting on the porch at sunset & watching all the deer, foxes & javelina. Its very relaxing & peaceful if you need to unwind like we did. We ran out of time & didnt get to do all the things we wanted but plan on coming back soon. Thank you for sharing your great home with us!

There are no words to describe how amazing and remote this location is. If you are a star lover, you will not be disappointed in these view both at night and during the day! Mark and Michelle are both so friendly and so knowledgeable about the areas, They had several great recommendations and their knowledge saved us a few times while there. My ended up with a flat tire, Mark helped us with an air compressor and recommended a great tire guy in town to get up back on the roads and back in the park! The casita is super cute, and they have literally thought of everything! The queen bed in the bedroom is so comfy, I honestly didn't miss my bed a bit, it was so wonderful. We cooked all of our meals here save 1, and anything we needed, was on hand. We were able to use the fridge, stove and both grills all without issues. If you are looking for a truly relaxing, somewhat off the grid, this spot will meet and exceed your expectations. We would recommend this spot to our friends and family without hesitation.

Our stay from start to finish was comfortable and very enjoyable! Mark and Michelle had everything to make our stay all we expected and the Hot Tub after a couple of Full days at Big Bend was a welcome and exhilarating sight when we arrived back from the Hiking! We have nothing but great things to say and if you’re heading to the area we both highly recommend!! Thank you for making our stay great!

If you want a taste of living in a remote desert setting- whether to relax and enjoy the serene views or to unwind after a busy day at Big Bend, this is for you! First of all this place was amazingly clean. For an RV, the owners make sure you have all needed incidentals and then some. Need plastic storage for leftovers- No problem. Need plastic cutlery for lunch on a hike- Got it! Forgot your razor or need motrin-You're covered.
Communication was prompt and clear. Not familiar with the intricacies of an RV- simple explanations are provided. Check-in/out was a breeze. Mark and Michelle are very friendly and eager to make your stay the best possible!

My girlfriend and I planned a trip to Terlingua/Big Bend, not knowing exactly what we were getting into. The trip itself turned out fantastic! There are so many fun and cool things to do; from riding a rowboat across the Rio Grande into Mexico, to climbing the tallest peak at Big Bend, taking a dip in the hot springs, and then relaxing under the desert night sky after a long day of adventures.
This Chiles were wonderful hosts and their property was pretty amazing. Over 100 acres of west Texas desert, it’s easy to feel like you’re out in the middle of nowhere. And that’s all part of the experience!
The property was clean and functional, Chula, their eager puppy, was a joy to be around, and the location was great! We spent 5 nights here and when we return to West Texas, this property will be at the top of our list for places to stay!
Thanks so much Mark and Michelle for being wonderful hosts and providing a great place for us to stay!

We enjoyed our stay in the RV! It was just right for us to come back to after a day at Big Bend National Park. We enjoyed the views, sunrises and sunsets, and wildlife! The RV was clean and has everything we needed. Mark and Michelle were helpful and accessible if needed, but we really didn't need much while we were there.

Nice place could be a little more distant from the owners house. Great hosts but would have been nice to be away from the main residence.

The owners, Michelle and Mark are so conscientious, courteous and helpful! Every detail had been thought out. They provide everything you could possibly need ! Michelle was even standing out front of her home expecting us to pull up. They want to make sure you make it in ok, as they are truly remote. Once we arrived, she welcomed us and showed us where we were staying. The communication prior to arriving was great too. For your safety, they make sure that you are departing or driving through Alpine at a certain time to allow for enough daylight for your drive out to their place.
Being brand new to the area and not sure how to navigate Big Bend National Park in only two days, Michelle was super helpful and showed us on a map the highlights we should hit and how to get to each one. She was spot on too! Each place she suggested we see was fantastic. She helped us form a plan so we weren’t so lost and overwhelmed. (I cannot emphasize enough the enormity of the park)
The barndo was immaculate and so welcoming after the long drive. I chose their accommodations bc of the great reviews, and also the hot tub! It did not disappoint. The beautiful sunset can be enjoyed from the hot tub while the deer come out in the evening to graze. The beds are so comfortable and it’s unbelievably quiet at night. The kitchen was fully furnished with everything one would need. We love to cook (Bring your groceries with you.) We easily prepared a huge pot of chili with all her nice Le Creuset cookware and the kitchen utensils provided. They have a water purifier that you will occasionally need to fill using the tap water, which is basically from the rain water system that they have. It’s what everyone does out there and it works great. Michelle will show you how to do that. It’s easy. The bathrooms were spotless and there is plenty of hot water. The location is a ways from the main road, and the drive into Big Bend is about 45 minutes. Overall, I highly recommend Mark and Michelle’s barndo.

How do I summarize this property?! Stunning scenery. Phenomenal hosts. Amazingly dark sky. Incredible wildlife.
The host invited us to consider the larger barn instead of the mobile home. The small upgrade fee was more than worth it. The two rooms were outstanding. Two bathrooms. Kitchen, living room, etc. Then, there's the porch, hot tub, and so much more. One could stay at this location all vacation long and still enjoy phenomenal wildlife activity and dark sky photography.

Highly recommend staying here for a trip to Big Bend. Beautiful area with a great opportunity to see wildlife. We had some storms come through on our stay that knocked out electricity, but they had a generator to hook up to the RV for us. They are extremely nice and welcoming and I plan on staying here again!
