A Once in a Lifetime, Authentic Jungle Extravaganza
The tours were exceptional: this is a safari extravaganza. Every excursion was full of incredible wildlife in its natural habitat. Lagoons, channels and the confluence of the Amazon with the Ucayali River. The bird life is phenomenal- constant eagles, hawks and turkey vultures. This and kingfishers: up close humming birds and mosquito bats. There are sloths and armadillos and anteaters. Just mind blowing plants and weather. The guide, Gomer, was well informed and caring- he also told me loads of local myths and information about Shamanism- which I asked about as I am a writer.
The food was good- just be clear what you want and they likely have it in the back. I requested porridge, muesli and real coffee and it all materialised after the first day. The village is sweet, and it’s great to know the money supports life there. They seem to have a very democratic society and it seemed very idyllic in many ways.
I post the following as constructive feedback, that I hope the lodge will consider it in future planning and be more conscious around their own logistical needs weighed against the experience of the guests.
This was a very expensive purchase for me, as I was alone. 4 nights was £800. It’s with a somewhat heavy heart that I am posting this because I feel that the management of the lodge needs to make a real change around how they manage their building works and noise.
There were huge building projects for two out of my 4 days with drills, chainsaws and other noise pollution that was distressing. I have suggested that they inform people when there might be noise, or, plan building work then close the lodge for a few weeks, or at the very least pause it when residents are having breakfast and lunch.
In addition, I would have liked there to be some women guides. I felt it was a very male environment from beginning to end- particularly with the building. The Lodge would benefit by including more input from the local women I feel.

It was good to experience how the people live in the jungle. Enjoyed seeing the animals.
All the food was good with fresh fruit and natural ingredients. The activities were good nd enjoyed seeing all the animals in their own habitat.
Despite being totally covered with insect repellant and clothes I still committed by mosquitos- not anyone’s fault but for me it was a negative.

A true gem in the Amazon rainforest.
We loved everything and have fallen in love with Libertad and the story of the community and the lodge. The area is very remote, so peace is granted. The staff is fantastic - from the guides, especially ours, Remigio, to the boat drivers, the kitchen staff, Manuel, el jefe, Oli and the rest of the people involved.
Tourism brings in money with which Manuel and his team can continue to provide materials to build new infrastructure for Libertad as they have done in the past - by bringing purified water a few years ago, building the local school, or paving the streets. Everything they do is for the benefit of the community. The money raised is also used for scholarships and incentives so that children in the community can continue their studies. We spotted other lodges across the river during our stay, but none of these is investing their earnings in people beyond the owners; all of them are private businesses.
I’m not sure where I read that someone said that the food provided at the lodge wasn’t enough; I had issues finishing everything on my plate. It was delicious and very healthy! There’s always some protein, carbs, vegetables, legumes and fruit, always paired with fresh Amazon fruit juice.
We had the chance to go when the river was still covering most of the area, so our excursion mainly were by boat. We could see many animals, learn about medicinal plants, see the Milky Way at night, watch the sunset surrounded by dolphins and have a dip where the Amazon was born. We managed to fish some piranha that we then ate. I now feel like I can survive by myself!
You’re in the jungle, so you need to go mentally prepared for bugs and critters. You may be uncomfortable because you’re not used to them, but this is the reality of the place you’re going to visit The Amazon has dangers, but none of the critters you may find in the lodge are dangerous.
Everything was absolutely perfect.

Amazing experience, not just a hotel.
This is more of an experience than just a hotel. You sign up for a place to stay and a private guide, and from that moment on, you're going to see a lot of the Amazon rain forest in its various forms. Included are also three meals in the restaurant, the latter of which are also part of the experience - you get introduced to a number of tropical fruits at least I hadn't heart about before, and things are put nicely together. As part of the trip, which you negotiate with your guide, you can go fishing and then have your catch cooked. We did this with catfish and piranhas (yes!).
Our guide Larry was amazing. Very knowledgeable and attentive to any changes in the plans (especially since we're traveling with our child).
No hot water in the shower (though this was OK most of the time since it's so hot outside). Electricity is available in the evening between 6 and 9 PM. Since this is the rainforest, be aware of big insects and arachnids getting into your room. :)

Molt recomanable.
