About this house rental
This is the Hawaii you dream about! This little bungalow on the beach is an ideal tropical vacation destination for a couple or a family with children. It is the perfect island get-away for Honeymooners. The house and lanai open to expansive views of the beach, ocean and sunsets year round. The lawn and gardens are lush with native Hawaiian trees and plants including a dozen coconut palms. Start your day sipping your morning coffee on your private lanai while watching for migrating whales (Dec - March) or pods of spinner dolphins that visit the nearby Marine Sanctuary. Spend the rest of the day relaxing in the hammock in the shade of coconut palms or swimming with turtles, snorkeling or scuba diving in one of the best diving spots in Hawaii, the Puako reef, just in front of the hale. (You can read about it in guidebooks) An entrance spot into the ocean is just a few yards down the beach south of Hale Malia. Children will enjoy hours of beach combing and exploring the tidepools. If you are tired of packing/ lugging your family to GO to the beach this is a good place for you - you ARE ON THE BEACH.

Beaches and Touring the sights of the Island: Puako is conveniently located for visiting the numerous sights of the Big Island from north to south. Numerous Beaches and resorts are within 5 - 20 minutes away from Hale Malia. Closest public beaches: '69' Beach in Waialea Bay (5 minutes) , Hapuna Beach (10 minutes) Driving times to some sights of interest: City of Refuge (south), 1 hr 45 min, Captain Cook/Kealakekukua Bay 1/1/2 hr, Kailua Kona 30 min, Kona airport, 25 min., Waimea 20 min., Hawi/ Waipio Valley 1 hour, Hilo/ Hawaiian TropicalBotanical Gardens 1 hr, Volcanoes Park, 1 1/2 hr.

This is our second time staying on Puako Beach Drive; first time was in a bungalow further down the road, back in 2019. I absolutely loved the area and was excited to return. The cottage feels very Hawaiiana and was exactly as presented in the photos. Loved watching the sunsets from the lanai, exploring the lava rock tide pools during low tide, listening to the ocean waves, and looking for turtles, from a safe distance, of course! A few things to note:The kitchen is well-equipped with pots and pans, appliances, salad spinner, and so on, but no basic pantry items, not even salt or cooking oil.There are gaps between the windows and screens, which makes sense for an older property so close to the ocean, but it does mean there are critters. (I got a lot of mosquito bites; first time for me on the Big Island.)While hanging towels on the clothesline, I saw a mouse, which gave me a fright at first.The cottage was a splurge for us, and we

This property has one of the best views and yard on Puako road. We had a few storm related incidents but got most of them worked out. Heavy wind and rain are not friendly to old cabins. Great having a washer and dryer and nice appliances and a tv. Owner was very responsive.

We had a wonderful trip staying at this beautiful beach house. There were amazing views and we had beautiful weather. The house had everything we needed and was clean and well kept. We couldn't have asked for more.

I have only amazing things to say about our stay. This was our second time here and if we are lucky enough to come back to the Big Island, my dream would be to stay here again.The bedroom, dining, kitchen, and living areas are very clean and comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped and maintained. The owners have designed and decorated the house to match the beauty outside.Once the doors and windows are open, all you can see or hear is the ocean and the birds, really paradise. Plenty of chairs for relaxing or reading. We enjoyed some incredible whale watching while there in February/March.Close proximity to gorgeous beaches, restaurants, grocery (including the general store for basics and carryout sandwiches/snacks which is walking distance). Communication with the owners is easy
