We had a good stay at the house. The host was incredibly responsive and helpful whenever we had issues. However we did have some issues - the home was not cleaned very well when we got in and there was a hornets nest on the side of the home. When they removed the hornets nest, some of them got into the vent and so we were constantly finding them inside the home. We had a fourth month old so that was not ideal. The location of the home is incredible, we loved walking to town in the mornings. However, the fire department siren goes off quite often and is very loud so that was difficult for our four month old who was woken up every time it went off. The pool area was fantastic and cleaned weekly. Overall we had a fine stay here and would commend the host for being timely in responding and fixing issues swiftly.

On Monday morning we were awakened by the house shaking from the construction next door . At first I thought it was a quake. The pounding and deafening sounds continued all weeklong from 730 AM to 4 PM on Friday. Having thought I did my due diligence , I had read all the reviews, and indeed one from last summer wrote about the construction., along with other positive reviews. I wrote to the manager asking whether this was still a problem. He wrote back the next day, saying he had called the town supervisor and found "that the construction was completed and all that's left is electrical work, which should not interfere with our vacation". That reassured me enough to book. When I first called the manager on Monday , he returned the call hours later, saying that he is only there for emergencies. Nevertheless, he gave me the owners phone number. The owners response to my call was dismissive, hostile, and he seemed more annoyed than anything. I had asked him to kindly refund half of our money even though it was only day 2 of our 7 nights away, because I knew the conditions were such that it was difficult to relax, or even use the backyard as the noise level was way too loud. I wanted to try and move to any hotel at this point. He declined my request. And VRBO also was not much help. I thought it fair to write this and forewarn any future renters . I spoke to the town and they said the construction could go on for the rest of this summer, and there is no reason they would end the construction until it was complete. I posted a video on YouTube. https you t u. be / i l 9 G -u e f X u4. Sorry, VRBO didn't want a link posted, so I broke up the link hoping that the logarithm possibly don't recognize it as a link. Just eliminate any spaces, add the : / / after the http, and then leave the periods and dashes . Turn up your volume and you will hear the noises we heard.

This was not a pleasant experience with multiple issues and a wildly inappropriate response from the owner. The house sits next door to a town construction site (digging up water pipes for the next 4mths)—we were awoken each weekday to the sound of bulldozer’s buzzing at 7am straight thru the day. On top of the nonstop noise (so loud that even a radio will not drown it out), there is debris and smoke at times flying straight into the yard. The owners response was underwhelming (“I don’t have a crystal ball- how would I know this would happen when you booked”) and his ability to still charge a premium despite this massive disruption is appalling. Second, the house was not turned over to us properly—the responsibility of cleaning both the inside AND outside is on the owner, not your tenant who is already paying a cleaning fee. We arrived to a dirty backyard—chicken still on the grill, an empty gas tank, chips in the pool, food on the floor surrounded by bugs, food on the table and chairs. Outside of sending someone over to change the gas tank (which I had to request after I was told to do it myself), the owner made no attempt to remedy the situation and I was left cleaning the yard myself. We had multiple issues w/ the pool turning murky green—when I addressed this with the owner, his response was to blame my family for “over usage of the pool”—I found this ironic as this pool was not useable for several days plus my two children would not go in the yard often given the color of the pool and the construction noise. Their pool contact explained the construction/debris was impacting many pools in the area, which the owner failed to acknowledge and went as far as to accuse me of making that response up. The owner then took this situation a step too far and proceeded to pass the house, count the number of cars in the driveway (just 3, with two belonging to me and my husband, who was commuting to work during the week) and then harass me for information multiple times on who was staying in the house. There is nothing in the contract that states I need to announce day guests but I provided him with color anyway to avoid an issue—that wasn’t enough and he continued to pass the house later on that day and harass me again on why my father’s car (who was visiting for the day) was still in the driveway at 9pm. My husband and I felt like our family was being watched the entire time despite NOTHING being done to provoke such a response.

My family really enjoyed our trip to West Hampton. The house was very quaint, cozy and very clean. Just minutes to town made for fun shopping excursions and convenience. We spent most of our time outside in the beautiful backyard enjoying the pool and barbecue. Beach passes were also a plus. Just less than a mile and you’re at Rogers beach. The house was well equipped with all the necessities of an enjoyable stay. The owner was very responsive to all inquiries. We loved our beach vacation and would hope to return next year.
