Host left a basket with bread, Welsh cakes, biscuits and little jam pots, and in the fridge was milk, butter and fruit. These refreshments make a big difference when you’ve travelled far, allowing you to settle in without having to source essentials immediately. This is so appreciated.

The building was lovely with lots of character and had clearly been decorated and furnished to a high standard. The accommodation was spotlessly clean, beds and sofa were comfortable, and the linen smelled amazing. Location was great, right in town.

The TV struggled when we tried to use apps like Amazon TV, and there wasn’t the option to use Now TV or Disney, so it was the basic channels on live TV only. The internet is very slow.

We had a wonderful two-night stay at this lovely cottage on 22 Castle Street, right in the centre of Hay-on-Wye, over the August Bank Holiday weekend. The cottage was absolutely perfect for our stay. It was beautifully decorated and furnished, with so much thought clearly put into making guests feel comfortable and at home. Everything you could possibly need was provided, and there were lots of lovely little touches that really made a difference. The views were beautiful, and although the weather wasn’t particularly kind to us, we still had an amazing time. The cottage was such a cosy and peaceful place to come back to after being out exploring. One of the party slept in the very comfortable double bed upstairs, while the other used the sofa bed, which was also very comfortable. The facilities were excellent, with a TV offering Freeview and Netflix, really good internet, books and games and everything needed for a relaxing stay. The welcome basket was a particularly lovely touch. Having bread, jam, marmalade, butter and biscuits waiting for us after a long journey was very much appreciated. There was also milk in the fridge, along with tea, coffee, sugar and everything needed to make a much-needed cup of tea on arrival. It was such a thoughtful and welcoming start to our stay. We ate in on one of the evenings and used the oven, and it was great to find that the kitchen had everything we needed. All the facilities were there and easy to use, making it really convenient to have the option of eating in. We also loved the thoughtful extras for enjoying the outside space, including cushions and blankets, as well as additional blankets for cooler evenings. These little touches really showed how much care had gone into making the cottage comfortable and welcoming. The location is fantastic right in the heart of Hay-on-Wye, with everything within easy walking distance, parking out side but the long stay parking only a five minute walk up the road.
