The Dalmatia region Peljesac is a peninsula in southern Croatia, in the Dubrovnik -Neretva county, just about an hour and a half drive from Dubrovnik. It is around 70 km long and is connected with Croatian Mainland at Ston.It is the longest of all Dalmatian peninsulas, abounding in natural bays, mostly covered with woods, with a coast full of beaches, reefs, bays and fjords. Peljesac was inhabited since ancient times by Illyrians and Greeks, later by Romans and since the 7th century by Slavs. The old historians mention it under the name Rathaneus Kersones, meaning the Cape Lynx. The Peljesac Channel divides the peninsula from the island of Korcula. Scattered like breadcrumbs across the foothills of the dolomites, the hamlets and villages of southern Peljesac evoke an ancient past. The rocks, the vegetation, the groves of pine and cypress - everywhere a sense of timelessness prevails. On the hills above the sea, abandoned villas and gardens, stone walls and columns lie crumbling in the sun. Lemon, fig and almond trees, herbs and wildflowers surround the villages gardens and fields. The historical sea captains' town of Orebic - with its shops, market, cafes and restaurants is on the bottom of the Sveti Ilija Mountain. A footpath into the mountains to the summit of Sveti Ilija begins near Viganj too - Croatia's windsurfing capital. There, seaside restaurants and pebbly beaches attract a lively crowd in summer months. The island of Korcula and Mljet are is just across the channel Mokalo Peljesac has an ancient maritime tradition and is the home of many captains famous for their skill and bravery on the open sea. It is also well known since ancient times for the fine vineyards, and the excellent sorts of wine, "Dingac" and "Postup", are famous all over the world. Orebic – a small town on the south seashore of Peljesac Peninsula, originally built by sea captains who found this spot to built their homes and villas. It is located on the regional road running along Peljesac peninsula. Back in 19th century, Orebic had one of the largest sailing and shipping societies in Mediterranean but as soon as steam ships replaced sailing ships, Orebic lost it's primate in the field, although sailing itself remains local activity to present days. Orebic is nowadays popular tourist resort, offering various accommodation facilities – hotels, apartments, and rooms, long pebble beaches (Trstenica). Here is a quote about Orebic from Sunday Times UK: “Stick a pin anywhere on a map of the Croatian coast and you're likely to hit on an unspoilt beach and a sleepy fishing village or two. If you're lucky, you might find a lovely little place like Orebic, on the Peljesac peninsula, north of Dubrovnik. It has a long, sandy beach, restaurants serving black squid risotto and whitebait, and a jetty where you can take a 15-minute ferry ride to the delightful island of Korcula. ” EXPERIENCES TO LIVE - Venture out for a day-trip to Mljet, remarkable for its untouched salt and fresh-water lakes within a national park - Treat yourself to an Odyssey-like adventure, scuba-diving or snorkeling at a nearby sunken ship and cave legend supposes is an original location from Homer’s epic poem - Indulge in a boat-excursion to the island of Korčula, with only a few hundred inhabitants, but a rich history and heritage, including the alleged house of birth of the famous expeditor of human history, Marco Polo - Enjoy all the benefits of the best-know spot for kite-surfing in Croatia in the small town of Viganj, a mere 7 kilometers away - Purchase home-grown goods such as extra virgin olive oil, goat cheese and delicious fig cake - Live a typical Mokalo morning, waking to the rising Mediterranean heat and stepping down through the shaded garden into the calm sea, after an amazing breakfast. - Purchase a bottle of remarkable local Dingač sort wine, rent a boat, and travel to an even more remote, romantic destination where a clear midsummer night’s sky will offer you an incredible view of the Milky way that will leave you speechless - Road-trip to the defensive walls of Ston, a medieval town known as the “European wall of China”, at the mouth of the Pelješac peninsula on the path towards Dubrovnik - Take a vineyard tour up the astonishing hills all across the peninsula Boat mooring can be provided directly in front of my home via my neighbor Catering can also be arranged from Catering and takeout Kuzina in Orebic . The house is really nice, in very good shape and well equipped. What made our 2 weeks there outstanding was the large terrace, the very large shady garden, the direct access to the beach, barbecueing and cooking in the outdoor kitchen. The bay is beautiful, however quite busy during high season in August. But you do not need to spend much time there: just a few stairs and you are in your private garden with sea view. If you want it more quiet, you move up to a higher level of the garden and find a hammock or sun lounger there to relax in peace and quiet. We also enjoyed many table tennis matches there. We were 8 adults in the house (3 couples and 2 singles). There are 5 bedrooms in the house: 2 on the upper floor, generously spaced, each with its private bathroom and access to the balcony. The 3 bedrooms on the ground floor share one bathroom (however, there is an additional shower including hot water and a toilett a few steps outside the terrace). They are quite small, each with a double bed, wardrobe and dresser. With the furniture there is little else room to move inside. But since one spends most of the time outside, this was not a problem for me. But other people might have other needs. So you better discuss with your group beforehand who will be happy with a small bedroom. Joseph, the host, is super quick and precise answering all questions before and during our stay. Meri, the property manager, is very friendly and helpful when it comes to fixing minor problems.

The best part about this place is the outdoors: many quiet places to recline and a lot of space, and there’s a beautiful outdoor dining and living room area, as well as a faull outdoor barbecue kitchen. It’s quite a few stairs to the beach, so, if anyone in your group has mobility issues, be advised, but there’s a beautiful area down there with chaise lounges to relax above the beach. The beach is gorgeous, it does get a bit crowded with the two campgrounds on either side, but if you take a swim first thing in the morning, you’ll have it all to yourself and it could not be more gorgeous!!! It is a pebble beach so if your feet are tender, make sure to bring your water shoes. We really appreciated that there were two places to get food and drinks so close by and we loved buying fresh bread in the mornings from the bread man. Overall, it was fantastic stay. I will say that two of the downstairs bedrooms were quite musty, and because it was so hot when we were there, we weren’t able to leave the doors and windows open (had to use ac) so the mildew smell was pretty strong. One of the air conditioners upstairs was not working when we were there and it was quite warm at night. The indoor kitchen is a little bit small and really only one person can comfortably work, so if you are a gourmet plan on doing a lot of outdoor grilling! The upstairs bedrooms with the en suite bathrooms are spectacular, very roomy, and the bathrooms are beautiful. The property managers are lovely.

The villa and the setting is breathtaking-all that is described in the VRBO listing and more. It’s a true paradise. The grounds and beach are spectacular. All who came fell in love with the accommodations and the setting. We had a boat during our three week stay and we’re able to cruise the coastline and visit the numerous islands in the vicinity-eating lunch on a nearby private island between our beautiful half- moon beach and the island of Korcula (which I highly recommend taking an ATV buggy tour of with the family-operated boats oldest buggy tout operator on the island. Much thanks to Joseph for our stay in his obvious “labor of love”. Hopefully I will return.

We stayed here for my 60th birthday week with family staying at adjacent campsites and apartments in Mokalo and Orebic. The villa was perfect for our needs with plenty of space and quiet areas to be in as well as the wonderful veranda where we hosted a celebration dinner of Croatian lamb peka provided by Marija. The location is just perfect, nice and quiet but easy to get to Orebić and across to Kortula, which is my favourite Dalmatian island. Thank for a wonderful, happy and memorable stay.

Our extended family of 10 stayed at Villa Kustra for a week, and this property exceeded our expectations. The villa itself was beautifully remodeled and the property has a great deal of outdoor space for relaxing. The beach accessed directly from the property is also great for swimming. Communication with the owner leading up to our stay was also great. I recommend it highly!
