The District of the Letters takes its name in homage to the great writers who inhabited its streets in Century of Gold. Cervantes, Quevedo or Lope de Vega passed through this area between the Paseo del Prado and the Plaza de Santa Ana, one of the most popular in Madrid because of the charm of its pedestrian streets and its many shops and restaurants that make it especially lively. weekends. From the Plaza de Santa Ana, famous for its terraces and tapas bars, streets like the one in Huertas, whose cobblestones are engraved by great writers in Castilian, slope down to the Paseo del Prado. It is precisely in Lope de Vega Street, in the church of San Ildefonso (Convent of the Barefoot Trinitarians), a commemorative plaque remembers that in an undetermined place of the building rests the remains of the author of The Ingenious Hidalgo Don Quixote de la Mancha, Miguel de Cervantes. Not far from there we find the house-museum of the great playwright Lope de Vega - curiously on Cervantes Street - which is also buried in the neighborhood, in the church of San Sebastián (Calle Atocha). One of the favorite quotes from the regulars is the Frog Market. On the first Saturday of each month, local merchants take their products to the streets, decorate their windows and offer special promotions, while concerts and street theater enliven the atmosphere. Metro stations nearby (less than 7 'on foot): Bank, Sevilla, Sol, Atocha. Crowd of buses. Stop of the 2 'City Tour in Neptune. Walk to Plaza Mayor 11 ', to Sol 7', Museo del Prado 5 ', Thyssen-Bornemisza 2', Las Cortes 1 ' It is surrounded by restaurants, taverns and cafés of the most pleasant. The nearest train station is Atocha, less than 10 min. walking. Nearby metro stations, Banco, Sevilla, Sol and Atocha The express bus from the airport stops at Cibeles, 5 min. By taxi from the airport, there is a flat rate of 30 euros I can pick you up at the airport or at the train station The area is restricted access for vehicles (residents only), but you can leave the car in the public parking of Las Cortes, 1 min. walking.

This property was perfect for our family. It is located in a perfect area full of great restaurants and within walking distances of the busy/touristy areas we also wanted to visit. The apartment is lovely and communication with the host was friendly and helpful.

My sisters and I stayed for a couple of nights, closing out our stay in Spain. Property managers were great and very helpful with recommendations & tips for the local area. Apartment is in close proximity to Prado museum and many restaurants. Thank you Sol and crew!

Nice apartment in an interesting neighborhood
We very much enjoyed our stay at Sol’s apartment in Madrid Centro. The neighborhood, Las Letras, is just west of The Prado and Thyssen-Bornemisza museums is a vibrant one with many cafes, tapas bars and restaurants. The apartment is an easy walk-up – on the second floor – but there is also a lift for your arrival and departure with luggage. The generous and well-laid-out space itself is just as pictured on the VRBO site with beautiful hardwood floors, two generous bedrooms with ample closet space, two roomy bathrooms and a smallish but workable kitchen. (Certainly not the smallest kitchen I’ve used in Europe.) We only prepared breakfasts there; but you could cook if you wanted to eat in. It was nice and quiet for sleeping. A washing machine was a welcome plus. Good security locks on the inside of the door. Sol was a responsive host through VRBO and someone met us for check-in, going over all the details of the apartment. All in all, a very nice city apartment; we would certainly stay there again.

Family stay
We had a great time at Sol’s place after Christmas through New Year’s Day! We walked everywhere and enjoyed all the restaurants that were around the apartment. The apartment was plenty big for the four of us. I loved how they had coffee there for us and someone was waiting for us to let us know what was nearby when we got there. Agar was especially helpful. You are about a block or two from the Prado and Retiro park. Many other neighborhoods nearby are fun to walk through and experience. We didn’t take a cab anywhere. We walked between 5 and 9 miles a day!

Where you want to stay in Madrid!
Sol's apartment is the perfect spot to see all Madrid has to offer. A very short walk to many of the city's top museums, Retiro Park, great shopping and excellent food and drink. Sol provided a great list of restaurants and bars - not tourist traps, but wonderful spots where she and other locals go. We hit many of her recommendations and were thrilled with all of them. Roomy, clean, perfectly located. Would gladly stay there again on a future trip to Madrid.

Enjoyed our short stay
This property had a female touch. There was coffee, sugar, bath wash and lots of towels. I would recommend this apartment to anyone going to Madrid. Be aware of that first elevator though. I missed that on our text and we got trapped. There isn't a sign posted.

Great location, wonderful host
This apartment is centrally located for easy access to all the major art museums, botanical garden and Retiro Parque. There are many restaurants and small grocery stores nearby. We walked everywhere, though you could take a bus or metro fairly easily. The apartment is quiet and does not front on the street. In summer it is very hot, and they do have fans, but no air conditioning. Our host was not available but she arranged for someone else to attend to us and she was easily reached if we needed something. If you are staying more than a few days, and if there are 4 or more of you, you will have to buy your own extra toilet paper, but otherwise, everything we needed was there.

Great Apartment & Apartment
Fantastic location - five minute walk to the Prado and main park, away from the tourist areas, and with plenty of great local bistros on the door step. Good sized living room - well equipped small kitchen - two bathrooms (one with a bath) - washing machine - and two double bedrooms.

Excellent location
Great location but lacks some formalities. Supplies of coffee, soap, shampoo and towels were insufficient or below par. TV lacked English channel. Plus side is that it is in convenient location to museums and perfectly walk-able to all parts of the city with restaurants and piazzas nearby.

Location Perfect
A lovely spacious and clean apartment in the best location ever, a few minutes walk to the Prado, Thyssen and a 10-15 minute walk to the amazing Parque del Retiro. All the major sights within Madrid Centre were within walking distance. A visit to the home - now a museum - of the wonderful artist Sorolla is highly recommended and one of the highlights of our visit to Madrid. From our first contact with Sol she responded quickly to any emails and dealt with any queries almost immediately which is very reassuring. Thank you Sol. Highly recommended.

Good location near to the Prado
The location of this apartment was excellent for visiting the Prado, Thyssen and Reina Sofia museums. It had a good restaurant on the ground floor and others close by. The apartment was large enough for two adult couples. It was rather dark as it had no exterior windows, and the neighbours were noisy while we were there. Some interesting books for readers of Spanish.

Wonderful apartment- great location and everything we needed!
Thank you, Sol, for a fantastic place to stay! The apartment was neat and clean, nicely decorated, and very convenient to the places we wanted to visit in Madrid. Despite its proximity to museums and the metro, the apartment was on a quiet street that felt very safe. It was nice to put the kids to bed and be able to sit up and relax with my husband. It was also really nice to have two full sized bathrooms and a washing machine for our family - often rare in Europe! The recommendations for activities were full of great ideas, especially the list Sol sent us ahead of time for things to do with the kids in Madrid (parks, family fun, low cost activities, etc). Sol was very responsive when we had questions and answered our messages promptly. I look forward to returning in the future, and would highly recommend this charming apartment!

Outstanding experience
I don’t think the location can be improved upon. You are in the absolute middle of old Madrid surrounded by inviting comfortable tapas bars. On foot, you are mere minutes from Retiro Park, the Prado, Puerto del Sol and Plaza Mayor. The apartment itself is very clean and comfortable. The hostess was easily accessible and very helpful with grocery shopping, subway tickets and restaurant suggestions. When I return, I hope I ca stay again. Thanks Sol!
