It was clean and warm and the food was excellent. We could participate in morning prayers before breakfast.
Some toilet and basin facilities were out of order but it was not full so plenty for the number of guests.

Basic room with tatami mats .Buddhist chanting in the morning . Buddhist monk experience .food was vegan and different
Futon quite thin . Pillow full of wheat grains and v firm . Minimal contact with Buddhist monks except morning chanting

Its definitely not a hotel, its a temple. Dont expect full comfort. It was a very nice experience that cant be rated on booking. As a stay objectively, it wasnt good. But as an experience, its really nice.

Wonderful scenery, beautiful food, room, onsen and ceremony.
No heating. just wasn't prepared for absolutely no heating except in room with smelly gas and dining room. We could see our breath in hallway and during ceremony. It was much colder than the other places in Japan that we were traveling too. We brought jackets that are good for fall weather. To bring a winter coat for one night is unrealistic for us. Had to double my bed mat and it still was very thin for me. Might have been fine for some people. Would have like more interaction with the monks, teaching more about the ceremony, answering questions.
