About this farm stay rental

Located in County Donegal, this charming farm stay for $313 per night is a fantastic option for your next trip. The "Lower House" in the townland of Knockglass (translated "green hill"), Malin is nestled in rolling farmland approximately halfway between Ireland's most northerly point at Malin Head and the quaint village of Malin Town. The house is over 250 years old and has been carefully refurbished in recent years to maintain its character and charm; back in the day it was part of a clachan (group of houses) in a small rural community on a farm. Many of the houses remain and are either no longer occupied or demolished. The "Lower House" sits at the edge of a working farm with just 2 neighbouring households where once there were more than 7 houses. Part of the house in fact was a shop that served the local community. The house itself is 1 1/2 story with two interconnected living/dining rooms, well-stocked kitchen, utility with laundry facilities, a shower W/C, bathroom, 4 double bedrooms and one large open-plan bedroom (with 3 single and 1 double bed) and two wood-burning stoves. Finished internally with lime render and with exposed structural timbers the design and decor intentionally aims to create a comfortable, cosy ambience. There is a fireguard, removable stair gates on one stair case (not on the spiral stairs), childs high chair and kitchen utensils suitable for kids. Externally in a fully enclosed garden there are 3 lawns and two patios with BBQ, fire pit and garden toys, swing, see-saw - to keep children entertained. Walks or short drives in several directions take you to dramatic clifftop views over Trawbrega Bay and the whole of the north Donegal coast, the stunning Five Fingers Strand. If you want to get away from it all, detach yourself from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and soak up the amazing scenery of the Atlantic coast then this area and this house should be top of your list!

Beautiful house set in an idyllic location, excellent communication from host, Kendrew was a pleasure to deal with!! Safe location for young children to roam about the garden, and a friendly farmer neighbour even took the time to show us his ducks ❤️ 🦆 🦆 ❤️ All looking forward to a return visit ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Great home for big family group - very cosy and multiple living spaces. Fire pit outside is fun to sit by & watch cows and geese, cosy lounge rooms with wood heaters, beautiful bedrooms to wake up in. So much to do in the area, beaches, stunning walks & sweet charming & friendly little towns everywhere. Could have spent longer.

We had a great time here in April 2023. The house is spacious with plenty of beds and two bathrooms. There is a bedroom at the top of the spiral staircase that can sleep 4/5 kids. There is an amazing view from the garden looking onto the hills and down to the beach which is close to the house. Overall this house is recommended if you need space for a large family or group and are looking to explore the Malin Head region.

I stayed in the Lower House, Knockglass, with my extended family in August 2022. The house was perfect for us, in a very beautiful location, and we thoroughly enjoyed our relaxing stay well and truly away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Everything was just as described and as shown in photos, and the owner, Kendrew, was helpful and easy to communicate with. The house is old and full of character, but very well-maintained, and comfortably furnished. We were lucky to have weather good enough to enjoy the picnic table and barbeque outside, with mesmerising views over the glen below and the hills of Inishowen. But it would also be cosy for an autumn or winter stay, with a stove in both of the living areas. The house is just a couple of minutes’ drive from the stunning Five Fingers Strand, but also not far from Carndonagh (which has a good supermarket), and within reach by car of Culdaff Blue Flag Beach, Kinnagoe Bay, Tullagh Bay, Malin Head – and is a great location for exploring Inishowen more generally. Our children (9, 6, 4 and 2 years old) also loved picking blackberries on the road outside, and the novelty of geese occasionally strutting past the house, or the hens at the farm next door. We would happily recommend the Lower House.

This is the 4th vrbo on our now second trip to Ireland. Like the story of Goldilocks after trying out all the beds, this one was “just right” I haven’t slept this well in a long time, we talked about becoming squatters and refusing to leave but darn it, Kendrew is too nice we can’t do that to him! Hopefully we were good guests and he will let us come back home again sometime :)
