The Space

The Neighborhood

Alfama is a picturesque, hilly neighborhood with narrow cobbled streets, pleasant squares, tiled façades, the most charming tascas serving authentic Portuguese cuisine, and Fado restaurants spilling melancholic sounds onto the streets. Although many changes have occurred in Alfama in the last few years, it still preserves that medieval side that is both fascinating and charming. Crowned by Castelo de S. Jorge, this neighborhood extends all the way to the riverside part of the city. Its maze-like layout up and down the hill is perfect for getting lost while discovering Alfama’s hidden treasures, old and new, along with its many viewpoints and sightseeing spots overlooking Lisbon.
