Nestled in Southwest Harbor, this charming house for $629 per night is a great choice for your next trip. Newly built, custom cottage located on the 'Quietside' of Mount Desert Island, just minutes from downtown Southwest Harbor, Bass Harbor Lighthouse, and Acadia National Park. Designed and built by a well-known local builder, everything is handmade including cabinetry, tables, lamps, ships ladder to loft, bed frames and more. Ideal for couples and families, there are two bedrooms downstairs with attached bathrooms and sleeping loft upstairs. Large covered porch has mahogany floors with both dining and sitting areas, with option for screened in or glass. Custom cabinetry throughout, radiant floor heat in bathrooms, white washed pine board walls, rustic pine floors, and western red cedar exterior. 55 inch LG TV, WiFi/cable, high end kitchen appliances with gas cooktop, electric oven, microwave, and mahogany counter tops. Weber grill outside, Sono's speaker in living and kitchen area. Close to downtown Southwest Harbor where you will find an array of fine dining, cafes, coffee bars, and famous lobster pounds. Acadia National Park is only a quick 5 min car ride with several hikes to choose from for all levels of hikers. The location is less than 1 mile from area restaurants, galleries, shops, tennis courts, library, and playground. You can walk downtown, however there is a small stretch without a sidewalk. Only a five minute drive to Acadia sites like Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse, Seawall Beach, Somes Sound, and Echo Lake. Bar Harbor is a 20-30 minute drive depending on traffic. The Island Explorer features 8 bus routes linking Southwest Harbor with destinations in Acadia National Park and neighboring village centers. Clean, propane powered vehicles provide island visitors with free transportation to hiking trails, carriage roads, island beaches, and in town shops and restaurants. The closest stop is less than 1 mile from the cottage in downtown Southwest Harbor. There is a bike shop downtown called Southwest Cycle where you can rent bikes daily or weekly. The Island Explorer has racks for you bikes so you can bring them with you everywhere on the island.

The cabin was great, would recommend for sure -
One recommendation would be to ask the manager to have some more information re how to work AC/Heat, and other appliances - took some figuring out. Need some new towels as well - although the laundry is excellent. These are minor.. overall very good - excellent location, clean, quiet - definitely recommend!

My family and a friend’s family (4 adults, a 2.5 year old, and a 1 year old) had a great time at Marsden Cottage. It was the perfect retreat when the rain arrived, and very convenient to Acadia National Park when we went out exploring!

Beautiful home, thoughtfully furnished. Quiet area close to the Southwest Harbor main st. Easy to get to Acadia destinations. The lofted bedroom area also has an external staircase for those who don't want to climb up the ladder. Just wish we had more time to stay!

Awesome time with adult children and grandson visiting Maine from out of state. Short hike to tidal pools, swimming in Echo Lake. Family cooking and fire pit. Peaceful and enjoyable. Cottage had everything we needed.

We stayed here with our 4 teenage boys. It's a cozy lovely house. (I do suggest adding one more chair or bean bag to accommodate 6 people in the family room.) The loft is quite roomy and we actually put an air mattress up there so no one had to share a bed. The kitchen is small so, if you have big eaters and want to use the kitchen, a bit of patience is required. My husband and I made eggs, bacon, and toast most mornings - we ran into each other more than a few times and ran out of counter space a bit - but it worked and we would definitely recommend the house! Owners were communicative and answered questions for us. Love the heated bathroom floors and the Sonos sound system for music!

Our group loved staying in Marsden Cottage for our trip to Acadia. The cottage is exactly as pictured in photos, and the location is also great, only a few minutes to Southwest Harbor and 20-30 minutes to Acadia. Everything was clean, comfortable and cozy. Definitely recommend!

We found this house to be great for visiting Acadia. The house was cute and the listing was accurate. The owners communicated well during the booking and stay. The location was very central to exploring Acadia and the rest of the island. Some advice for future renters… bring your own reusable bags as the grocery stores don’t provide bags.

Marsden cottage was absolutely amazing. We have stayed at many properties in the past, and this one has been the best by far. The cottage was in a great location on the quiet side of the island (and after visiting Bar Harbor, we are very glad we chose Southwest Harbor!), just a couple of minutes from the downtown location with cute restaurants, shops, etc. There was a grocery store 8 minutes down the road, where you could get all the essentials. Echo Lake was very close for swimming, Acadia mountain and a few other trails for hiking, Beech Hill Farm for fresh produce, Somesville pie sales on Wednesday morning, Bass Harbor light house. Activities in the larger part of Acadia are about a 25 minute drive, but it’s a pretty one! The cottage - So beautiful. The grounds are well taken care of, fresh herbs and plants and flowers in the gardens surrounding. The porch was the perfect place to eat dinner together. The main living area is very comfortable for 5 people, and the kitchen was well stocked for light cooking. The cabinets had a few things (salt and pepper, cooking oil, tea, coffee, a couple of herbs/spices). Nice, large outdoor grill and tools. There is a Nespresso machine (and even an assortment of coffee and espresso pods, much to my delight) and a small drip coffee maker for morning coffee in the sun that shines thorough the living room windows (I’m still missing this part :)). I was worried that not having a dishwasher might be challenging, but it’s just one more reason to eat out! Huge sink in the kitchen. There is air conditioning in the main living area, but not in the bedrooms, but this wasn’t a problem even during the unusually hot temps we experienced during our visit. There is a fan in the bedroom that we put in the living room and aimed towards the bedroom and it was nice and cool. Beds were clean, and super comfy, lots of pillows. Bathrooms had cabinet and drawers to store all of your stuff so you aren’t living out of a toiletry bag all week. Showers were amazing and hot, heated floors in the bathrooms were great. Just enough bath and hand towels and washcloths for all. We did end up buying some beach towels because we didn’t want to get theirs all sandy. The loft bedroom was perfect for our boys to sleep (ages 18, 15, and 12). Laundry room had a nice washer and dryer and laundry soap. Not a huge “check-out list”, like some places, just take out garbage and start the laundry. We couldn’t recommend this cottage more!

Great place to stay with family or friends. Communication with hosts was great and they were very attentive. Had one very minor issue that we brought up as an FYI and not because it ruined our stay and hosts seemed very appreciative of the feedback to make sure it was promptly remedied. Would stay there again.

A wonderful home tucked away near Acadia National Forest. It was decorated so cute. Plenty of space for 3 adults. Had all the amenities needed for cooking in and a solo stove for a fire on the first night. Loved our time there!

A beautifully maintained cottage built with such obvious love and attention. A perfect retreat after a day hiking on MDI. Had a perfect night fireside the Solo stove roasting marshmallows and hot dogs with the kids.

The property is absolutely gorgeous on the inside and outside. Close enough to bar harbor for dinner and easy access to the scenic sights around the island. The interior of the property is well designed and very unique. Will definitely stay again when we are in the area.

We had an amazing stay at Marsden Cottage. The house is full of character and tasteful details. We loved the colors and decor- the cottage was even nicer than the pictures! When we arrived the house was immaculately clean and full of everything we might need for our stay. Although the kitchen is on the smaller side, it is well equipped for light cooking. The beds and linens were particularly comfortable, and the rooms were cool at night. We enjoyed listening to music through the Sonos in the morning and watching movies after a day of hiking. The cottage is in a great location. Although you are minutes from Southwest Harbor the location feels fairly private. Outside, are lovely plantings and comfortable seating. Finally, Kristen and Richard were prompt to answer any questions and very helpful. We can not say enough wonderful things about Marsden Cottage.

Maine is not a traditional vacation spot for us; this quaint spot proved just the right location for our family to get to know Maine. The locals made us feel right at home. We were close to family owned eateries, excellent hiking and the flavor of Maine.
We appreciated the craftsmanship of this home. There was not a detail missed! The builder is a master!

We really enjoyed our stay at Manset! For a chilly, pre-season visit to Acadia, this space was ideal. The beds and bedding were inviting, the kitchen was equipped for light cooking and the decor was lovely. Interacting with the owners was simple and effective. If they weren't already booked for most of the rest of the summer, we would plan to return soon!
