We were looking for a nice get away with a little swank. We had a nice room with a fireplace, close to restaurants. I would recommend this hotel.

Everything was good except that the air in our room did not work. It was 80 when we got to our room and if you turned on the air to cool it down it would just blow more hot air. So we had to open our door for a bit to cool it down and it still only cooled down to about 74 which made it uncomfortable to sleep.

This hotel was beautiful. The room was amazing and the fire place was a nice touch. Lots of choices for breakfast and the front desk staff were very helpful. I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the downtown Des Moines area.

This is a classy, hotel, with a feeling of olden days of opulence . We loved it!

First of all there was no valet available and only parking was in ramp across the street. Hotel was beautiful and very nice spa. The bar was not opened and breakfast was cold ar 7:30 a.m. No restaurant or vending machine. Only snacks available in room for charge. Was a little noisy being downtown outside and bed was just ok but not extremely comfortable.

There was so much I wanted to like about this hotel but the overall experience fell flat. Our room hadn’t been used for what seemed to be a while and there was dust on the glassware in the bathroom and by the mini bar. Everything was closed around town or not open. No sort of food could be ordered at the bar. The staff was so nice and friendly but they had very little to offer in terms of additional service or suggestions for surrounding convenience and things to do while in town. God forbid anyone step out side the hotel to try and walk around in town, because it doesn’t feel safe at all. Sadly there were a lot of visible drug use we witnessed going on in the link walkway connecting the hotel to adjacent parking and apartments. Yikes!!!! Then at night we couldn’t sleep because there was someone literally Racing circles around the blocks of the hotel on a motorcycle until about 2 in the morning. I was exhausted and ready to leave in the morning. Goodbye Des Moines and Des Lux Hotel.

Immediately was made so uncomfortable with my service animal. The locks were busted in the “presidential” and it’s nothing like it looks online.

This property is fabulously restored and glamorous. The staff was lovely and paid attention to every detail. The only thing, imho, to improve- the gym. :)

Staff was friendly and helpful. They have pretty much anything you would need in the room which was nice. The bed was comfortable and linens were nice. Everything was clean and pretty well kept, the only thing that wasn’t was some peeling wallpaper in the bathroom. But the hotel staff told me that they were in the process of replacing all of in it pieces. Overall, great place and definitely would stay there again.

Loved the location. Easy parking right across the street. Did not see other guests it was great. No kids running up and down halls. We loved our fireplace. The beds are very comfy. Wonderful tall windows. We were on a corner room. It was noisy all night during the work day. Only that was the only negative. Breakfast was ok. Could have been fresher even at 8 am. Nespresso machine did not have any chocolate options. And by next morning they ran out of yogurt parfaits.

It was fine. Parking is not ideal. Breakfast was subpar. Rooms were fine other than a tub in a suite. Things are styled the way they are but the carpet needs to be updated and paint scheme is just too dark.

Zach and Mary were the best! They went above and beyond for a few requests that we had. Property is very unique and decorated for Christmas. Room was nice, bed and pillows were very comfortable. Parked my F150 in the parking garage across the street with no issues. Would definitely stay again!

An overnight stay for a concert. Picked the Des Lux for its unique style. It did not disappoint. Loved the room and the decor. Slept soundly. Very quiet for a downtown hotel. First hotel room I’ve stayed on with a working fireplace. Will stay again.

We had a wonderful time at Des lux Hotel it is beautiful and clean, the staff is friendly and very helpful and the beds are so comfortable. We chose the corner king suite with the fireplace it was beautifully decorated and the robes were a nice touch. They also give you a sleep kit with earplugs, eye mask ask and pillow spray. The earplugs were not needed the hotel was so quiet we felt like we were the only guests. If in the Downtown Des Moines area I would highly recommend.

WoW…This place is gem…It is well decorated and gorgeous…The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. The breakfast was truly intercontinental with many varieties. We enjoyed our stay. The front desk was helpful and friendly…Make sure you have your camera ready to capture all beautiful things that you are going to see in person.

It was a decent stay but overpriced - the hotel is more run down than in the pictures. It is also pretty loud - when I asked for a quiet room after a 14 hour drive, I was assured the one I am getting is quiet. Unfortunately I got a room on the second floor - could hear every sound from the street and in result barely slept. They do provide earplugs but I was not able to use them due to my health condition. City parking lot is directly in front of the hotel, it costs $1/hour and adds up to $10/day. It was clean and felt safe. The lady serving breakfast was extremely nice and polite. Breakfast has many options - much better than a standard hotel continental breakfast.

A great place for a weekend escape. They don’t advertise very well the spacious workout room, hot tub, sauna, and steam room in the lower level. For those that don’t want the sterile run of the mill hotel this is it. The room was HUGE and clean and awesome.

I don't even know where to begin. First of all, Sandy and Mary at the front desk are outstanding and went above and beyond to surprise us with some birthday balloons. Totally unexpected and my friend LOVED them. They even offered a ride to dinner which was great as well. They clearly love Des Lux and take a lot of pride, which they should. The space is incredible and I found myself noticing something new every time I entered the lobby. The lobby bathroom with the peacock glitter wallpaper... yes please! Rooms were decorated beautifully. Loved the colors and the exposed brick walls and super spacious bathroom. I worried the beds would be too soft but I slept like a baby. LOVED the firm pillows and already googled them to order some for home! Overall a fantastic space with amazing staff. Can't wait to be back to see how the lobby is decorated for Christmas. Not sure how they can top Halloween. Looking forward to checking out their sister property now in St. Paul.
