Situated in Pacific Palisades, this attractive house for $268 per night is a great choice for your next trip. The location is north of Montana, north of San Vicente, and on the north side of the street on Adelaide Drive - widely considered to be one of the most desirable streets in the city of Los Angeles/Santa Monica. (some would say THE most desirable. ) A tear- down sold for $7.6 million. The street in itself is considered an attraction. (because of "The Stairs", the view and the location). The Santa Monica Stairs are on this street. (If you like a challenging set of stairs to run up and down for your workout - then this location will be your nirvana. There are two sets of stairs in all. Runners run up and down the other as a loop.) You can see the ocean from the front door to the guest quarters or from the guesthouse deck A solid view of the Santa Monica Canyon can be had thru the bedroom window or the living room. Bright and sunny. Nespresso machine with complimentary cartridges. Complete with espresso cups and saucers. A library of Blu-Ray, DVD and a DVR with 600 high definition movies. iTunes based 'jukebox' with 17,000 songs plays thru Spendor S3/5se loudspeakers. And an HSU subwoofer. The kitchen is compact but complete; 4 burner gas stove with an oven. Dishwasher. Garbage disposal. Microwave. Blender. Coffee maker. Nespresso espresso machine. Refrigerator. Food processor. And cookware, wine glasses, champagne glasses and champagne bucket. Home was built in 1922-1923. The guest house was added in the '80's. The guest house occupies the site of the Reyes adobe, the very first building in Santa Monica. ( A tavern since torn down. ) Guest parking is in the driveway. And there is usually street parking. Adelaide Drive has been home to actor Charles Laughton, actress Jean Simmons, actor Jeff Bridges, composer Ferde Grofe, writer Christopher Isherwood and artist Dan Bachardy. (still here). Nutter Randy Quaid and wife Evi once lived in the main house. Adelaide Drive it is quickly getting a reputation for being 'a "writer's row'" - the creator of the Simpsons - Matt Groening lives down the street, Paul Attanasion, writer of Quiz Show and Donnie Brasco - lives in a landmark Arts & Crafts home. The late Alvin Sargent, writer of Paper Moon, Ordinary People and many other also called Adelaide home. Dale Launer, writer of Ruthless People, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and My Cousin Vinny also lives on this street. There are not just architectural landmark homes on this street., a walk thru the neighborhood and you'll find many architectural landmark homes. In the neighborhood there are number of homes by mid-century architectural icons - Richard Neutra, Eero Saarinen, Lloyd Wright, Harwell Harris...within walking distance, including a rare home designed by Oscar (Brasilia) Niemeyer (I believe the only home he designed in the United States). Also within walking distance is the famous Eames Case Study House. World renowned contemporary architect Frank Gehry (Disney Center, Bilbao, Fondation Louis Vuitton, etc.) chose Adelaide Drive to build his own personal dream house. Bus Stop nearby - 100 yards away (7th and San Vicente) from The Big Blue Bus. Check out the routes on their website if you want - it goes all over Santa Monica, and goes into L.A. The Santa Monica Bluffs are close (walk toward ocean on Adelaide. 15 minute walk (1/2 mile). Santa Monica Pier. 1.9 miles. Santa Monica Place/Promenade. Shops, restaurants, three multiple screen movie theaters. DIRECTIONS. 1.4 mile walk. Walk down Adelaide toward Ocean, left on 4th Street, walk 1 mile to Wilshire Blvd. Turn right, walk 1 block and the Santa Monica Promenade starts on the left. Montana Ave. Restaurants, shops, supermarket, baker, Aero movie theater (American Cinematheque - art-house cinema, they often have people who wrote, or directed or starred in the movies show up for Q&A). All short hops on the bus. Or walk and take the bus home. Great restaurants abound - ** Michelin starred Melisse is a 5 minute drive. So is Rustic Canyon. Giorgio di Baldi is a 2 minute drive (or a 15 minute walk). So is Pavilion Supermarket, Starbucks are all within walking distance. Also, a very large umbrella. Separated from the main house by a breezeway, the guest house has it's own entrance and is located above the garage. I've been told this is referred to as 'a "carriage house."
