Thatched-roof vacation home on the Baltic Sea near the beach, with a beach chair, sauna, and fireplace
Location, Surroundings, Things to Do
The Utkiek thatched cottage is located in the quiet, private vacation home community “De Poeler Drift,” surrounded by fields on Wismar Bay. The natural beach, about 800 m away, and the child-friendly sandy beach with a large beach playground offer ideal conditions for a relaxing beach vacation with the whole family. The picturesque coastal landscape invites you to go on extended exploration tours by bike or on foot. Forest and meadow trails, as well as the Baltic Sea Coastal Bike Path, pass not far from the vacation home. In addition, there is a campground about a 15-minute walk away that features a small grocery store and whose restaurant, Oase, is well worth a visit. Café Romy and the Zierower Hof restaurant are also within easy walking distance. You’ll also find plenty of shopping options at the MEZ Gägelow shopping center (e.g., Kaufland, Netto) and the Markkauf-Center Wismar (e.g., Edeka, Aldi), both about 5 km away. The nearby Hanseatic cities of Wismar and Rostock, the state capital Schwerin, as well as the Baltic Sea resorts of Boltenhagen and Rerik and the island of Poel also attract visitors with their sights.

The “Reethaus Utkiek” was completed in 2021.
With a living area of 85 square meters, the house can accommodate up to 5 people.
The vacation home is situated on a 430 m² lot.
Here, you have the option to park up to 2 cars next to the house.
In the landscaped garden, in addition to the patio, the covered seating area by the garden shed invites you to linger and relax, and the outdoor grill is perfect for barbecuing.
New: There is now a secluded storage area for bicycles under the extended shed roof.
The Thatched Cottage
This high-quality thatched cottage is bright and welcoming, furnished in a Scandinavian style and equipped with all the amenities you could wish for a wonderful vacation.
It consists of a first floor and an upper floor and features underfloor heating throughout the living area. The vacation home is equipped with two TVs, a DAB radio, and free fiber-optic Wi-Fi. All rooms are equipped with pleated blinds—the ones in the bedrooms also have a blackout function. Furthermore, every room has insect screens.
Smoking and pets are not permitted in the house.
Ground Floor
On the first floor of the thatched cottage is the entryway with a mudroom and a separate guest restroom with a sink.
From the entryway, a small hallway on the left leads to the kitchen and living area, which features a wood-burning stove. Firewood can be purchased at the Hagebaumarkt in Gägelow.
The kitchen area is fully equipped with items such as a ceramic cooktop, convection oven, range hood, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, electric kettle, and dishwasher. The large refrigerator also includes a freezer compartment. A waffle maker is also provided. The adjacent living area is furnished with a seating set, a sideboard, and a smart TV with satellite connection. Right next to it is a small children’s play area. Double doors lead from the kitchen and living area to a terrace measuring approximately 30 m², which features a teak seating set, a beach chair, and a parasol—inviting you to enjoy the tranquility of the property and the view across the fields. Two fold-out camping loungers are also available for relaxing and reading.
In addition, the first floor features a private bathroom with a walk-in rainforest shower and a sauna where you can unwind after an active day on vacation. Furthermore, the first floor features an utility room with a washing machine, an extra bed, seat cushions, and household cleaning supplies.
Upper Floor
On the upper floor, you’ll find two bedrooms, each with high-quality box-spring double beds; one of them also features an additional single bed. There’s room for a baby crib in both bedrooms. Up the stairs in the right-hand bedroom, there is a small desk. From this room, you can even enjoy the “Utkiek” view across the fields to the Baltic Sea in Wismar Bay—even from the comfort of your bed. The bedroom on the left is equipped with a smart TV with satellite connection and a reading nook with children’s books for our younger guests. Between the two bedrooms is the second bathroom with a sink, shower, and toilet.
You’ll feel right at home here and enjoy the privacy with your loved ones in the house, whether it’s over a cup of coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening on the terrace or at the garden house under its vine-covered canopy. When the waves are rolling in, you’ll smell the Baltic Sea and hear the surf.
