The company who manages this property should dump it! I will never rent from them again simply because the property was such a nightmare. Dark, moldy, falling apart, hot, outdated. The rental company lists its name as Sea Shelter. The actual name attached to the cottage is Sea Bunker and that’s what it looks like. I don’t know when the photo shown was taken, perhaps it was photo shopped, but that is Not what it looks like. Faded, pealing paint, rust running from the nails, torn screens, roaches and spiders!!!

Every renter was at the office at the same time trying to get keys and we were parked on the side of the road causing a dangerous situation on 158. This also meant that although we came in on the S end we had to travel 20 miles N to get a key AND then we had to go 20 miles N to rerun the key and rented beach towels. Sue and Brenda were good about quickly responding to me but communication could have been better. I had a question about check in and was referred to “per your signed rental agreement”. Well I didn’t print it off and bring it and phone service was iffy so getting my email up was iffy. A quick “It’s almost time to check-in to your vacation rental. What you see is what you get. The one-level beach cottage is simple, sufficient and provides readily accessibility to the beach. The cottage was clean. The AC worked in all rooms, and the amenities were basic yet adequate. I was appreciative for the basic accomadations and ability to walk over the dunes to the beach.

We had family that rented a big house two doors down. So basically we just needed somewhere clean and close by to sleep in. This was perfect, especially when you factor in the price.

Reviewer Comments: I stayed at a location in the Outer Banks, NC and I have to say it was an AWFUL experience. The house was INFESTED with roaches, spiders, and ants when we got there. The rental office workers did close to nothing and only once was a pest control worker there to spray. We had ongoing problems and the company did NOTHING. We ended up leaving early and had one guest that stayed to return the key. The house itself had major issues, the floors in the bathroom weren’t even nailed/secured down, all the doors were rusted to the point that you had to be careful not to grab the knob or your hand would be cut (like mine). The kitchen floors were water damaged, stained, and coming up at the edges. Nonetheless, the living room and bedrooms were fine and looked exactly like the pictures.

We arrived to a house with the door wide open and grasshoppers all over inside. The place smelled of mold/urine and was not cleaned. The couch and cushioned chairs all had stains on them and the carpet is long overdue for a replacement. It felt like the bunker had been flooded on a few occasions. The bathroom was decent. In order to cool the house (and remove the moisture smell) you have to run 6 portable AC units. Very loud. Also the exterior could use a power washing and a paint job.
Again, the location and price are great.....

A/c was window units so they were a little loud but they pumped out the cold air! Property management company was available whenever I needed them and very responsive and accommodating. The only somewhat negative thing I can say is the bathroom needs to be cut down about an inch at the bottom because it rubs and is loud and wakes up people when I use it but that's a very minor detail. Overall we were quite happy with the property.

It was not particularly clean and the sink,leather couch and carpet should be replaced. This house was probably the first house built in the area and nothing has been updated since. The kitchen was pretty small. There were only three of us. It was have been very cramped for 8. It clean for the most part. We quickly found out it was very hard to keep the sand outside and the vacuum in the house did not work. I would consider staying again if a few minor updates were made such as new furniture and TVs, and a washer and dryer.

This little place by the beach is nothing fancy, has no amenities to speak of, and no ocean view but it is clean and cool and very close to the beach, close enough that we didn't even need to take a cooler with us, we could just walk back to the house if we needed something to drink. It has brand new kitchen appliances and pots and pans, but a very small kitchen with little to no counter space. Cooking real meals for a family proved to be difficult. Luckily, the walk to the pier for yummy snacks and drinks was a perfect distance away. We had a couple of problems with the outdoor shower head and the bathroom but someone was there to fix them within a few hours. If you're not an early morning person, bring a sleep mask because the light in the big bedroom is bright! Also, the window cooling units are kinda loud. Overall, if you're looking for fancy or plan on spending a lot of time indoors, this isn't the place for you, but if you're goal is to be near the waves and practically live on the sand like we do, this is perfect.

The house is not fancy, but clean and totally functional with the exception of the outdoor shower; which was not a big issue. Wifi access would be nice, but cell phone access was good. The beach bunker was exactly as described. If you just need a place to stay at the beach and relax, this is it. No luxuries here but definitely a cozy, family house that has been well kept and clean. This was the perfect house as far as location to nearby attractions and the beach. close enough to everything but yet far enough away to relax. We were all delighted about this bunker, the only Wi-Fi. I would definitely recommend this bunker to ALL my friends :)

It would sort of make you think of a fish camp. It suited our needs well and we liked it's location. The house is second off the beach, about 6 miles to the Oregon Inlet Fishing center and walking distance to the OBX pier. The house is showing it's age and could use some upgrades. The stove eyes don't stay plugged in well, the tub drains very slowly, the pots and pans are in poor condition, and we had to use coolers to keep the fridge closed. It is fruitless to try to get the sand out of the outdoor so you can use it to keep sand out of the house. The "grill" is a small tabletop grill in bad condition. I would use it again for another fishing trip, but I would not bring the wife and kids to stay here. It's better than a tent.

The place itself is perfect for beach bums who want to be close to the beach and just hang out. I would suggest that if you plan on cooking, bring EVERYTHING you need except plates, cups and silverware. The pans and bowls were un-usable. The location saved our family vacation. The overall property was tired, badly maintained and in need of a total overhaul. Mold in the shower, stove was rusty with food stains. Fridge door would not shut due to frost in the freezer....the list goes on. VERY disappointing. Especially for the money we paid. Carpets were damp and smelled bad. On the good side, Fisheads at the OBX pier was awesome, as was the fishing trip we booked at Pirates Cove.
