About this house rental
Nestled in Bald Head Island, this attractive house for $1,401 per night is a great option for your next trip. Our custom-built, professionally decorated and designed home comfortably accommodates multiple families. With 5 bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms, it’s ideal for two or three families to enjoy. Located in the heart of beautiful Cape Fear Station, you’ll be within an easy walk of both East Beach and South Beach, Shoals Club, Turtle Conservancy, Commons Park, and Mike’s Bites! The Maritime Market and other shops and restaurants are just a short golf cart or bike ride away. You’ll have the use of our two 2020 golf carts (one 4-passenger and one 6-passenger), and you can easily rent bikes and have them delivered to the house. Our spacious open floor plan makes it easy for the whole group to be together without feeling crowded, while our private bedroom suites make it just as easy for you to get away for quiet time when needed. Our spacious kitchen is fully equipped, and a classic Weber charcoal grill is available for outdoor cooking on the deck. Three master bedroom suites each have a queen bed and full bath. A fourth bedroom is outfitted with two sets of built-in bunk beds creating the perfect kids’ room. A fifth bedroom has two twin beds and shares a full bathroom with the bunk room. Your group can enjoy time together indoors in the family room or outdoors on the cozy and spacious screened porch or open decks, shaded by beautiful live oaks and sabal palms. The large dining area comfortably accommodates 10-12 adults for those memorable vacation meals, or the kids (or adults!) may choose to eat at the picnic table on the adjacent screened porch while listening to the ocean. Morning coffee on the porch, surrounded by the sounds of the maritime forest, is wonderful. As our guests you will have access to purchase temporary guest memberships (price is not included in rental rate) to the two private clubs on the island, the Bald Head Island Club and the Shoals Club. The Shoals Club, with pool, poolside bar and grill, and indoor and outdoor dining, is spectacularly located on the oceanfront overlooking Cape Fear and Frying Pan Shoals, a rare 270-degree view of the Atlantic Ocean. At the BHI Club enjoy the new $13M Aquatic Complex with multiple pools and water slides, or dine indoors or outdoors at one its several excellent restaurants. The BHI Club also has a beautiful championship golf course, fitness center, tennis & pickleball courts, and a playground. Our home is meticulously maintained and will provide a restful and comfortable retreat around your days’ activities. Come spend some time at Rum Runner on idyllic Bald Head Island.

Had a wonderful week here! Loved the layout of the home, and we all loved sitting on the back screened-in porch/sunroom! Location was so convenient to the beach and nice to have two carts and beach chairs. Dining room/kitchen table could easily seat all of us for meals and board games! Host was helpful and responsive.

We had a wonderful stay at Rum Runner! It was the perfect, spacious home for our family (ages ranging from 10-80) to enjoy time together! The screened in porch was a big hit for all of us too, including our pup who made the journey with us. We enjoyed exploring many of the outdoor adventures that BHI has to offer- the trails on the Reserve, the beach, the novelty of just driving around in a golf cart. John, the owner, was so very responsive before our trip with my questions and also took the time to check on us afterwards. We made a lot of great memories and would be happy to come back to Rum Runner!

The house was great and exactly what we were wanting. The layout is perfect! The kitchen is fully stocked with every cooking supply. The location was great to go to the beach, shopping, etc. We will definitely be back!

House was comfortable. Excellent layout for extended families. Three master bedrooms, one bedroom with four bunk beds and one with two beds. The location could be an inconvenience since it was on the opposite end of the island from the ferry and the only restaurant on that end of the island was for members only, but we planned to eat most of our meals in and we aware of this prior to booking. We wanted a secluded place.

Great time in the Maritime Forest
We've stayed on BHI every year for the last 15 years. We usually rent a different house every year and Rum Runner has been one our favorites. It's located close to Mike's Bites (Pro tip buy a souvenir cup the first day so you get a discount on Italian ice the rest of the week). A short walk or bike ride to Shoals Club and situated near the park at Cape Fear Station. The house has lots of amenities. The kitchen has everything you might need. The was a charcoal grill and plenty of beach chairs for everyone. The 5 bedrooms and 4.5 baths were great for our rotating group of 10. There is a bunk room with 4 bunk beds that the 14 year old boys loved. There is one room with 2 twins and the other 3 bedrooms have Queen beds. This would be a great house for two families or one big family/friends. The management was very responsive to requests for information and very easy to work with. The house is clean and bright and was an absolute delight for our group.

The home easily accommodates two families and has a very spacious field with beautiful wood floors on the main level. We will definitely rent this home again due to its beauty and spaciousness and the incredible professionalism and responsiveness of the owner.

The kitchen wasn’t clean - garbage can full, countertops and table not wiped down - which isn’t the condition we wanted for our first vacation during the pandemic. Also the key was missing so it seemed like we had a potential security issue. The homeowner responded quickly, explained she was using a new cleaning crew, and apologized for their lapses. The cleaning crew returned, but the situation forced me to deal with three unmasked folks of unknown vaccination status while they cleaned and supplied toilet paper and towels. It was an uncomfortable situation.
That said, the home is comfortable. We made the decision to head to the beach fairly last minute so this was one of the few homes available. But after doing more research on rental homes on Bald Head Island, it’s not a great value. There’s no view, pool or hot tub. Many BHI homes include access to the country clubs for pools and restaurants. This property only includes the opportunity to purchase a temporary membership. Access to the clubs’ restaurants is pretty important since there are few dining options on the island.

Great week at Rum Runner!
Rum Runner is a great beach house for an extended family group! The house is very spacious, in a great location for the beach and Shoals Club, and very well-equipped. Owners are very responsive and helpful, and everything worked well. We had 3 generations and everyone was very happy!

Exceptional house and location
There is no reason to stay anywhere else! The house is large, beautifully laid out and decorated, and perfect for two families. The location is the best on the island, as you can be on either south beach or east beach within about three minutes by golf cart. Communication with owners was wonderful and we wouldn’t change anything! Thank you!!

Peaceful Paradise
Our stay at Rum Runner was perfect from start to finish. Every detail has been thought of to make this home perfect for a family vacation. The home is spacious, open and comfortable with space for large groups dinners or games or enjoying a quiet moment on the large front porch or back screen porch. The location is perfect, just a short walk to the beach for a sunrise or sunset!! And just a quick ride to the shops and market. We all loved our stay at Rum Runner!

First off, the owner couldn't have been more helpful. So appreciated! The house and location were great. Was able to bring my 12 year old dog to the beach for the first time and he had a ball. A memory for the whole family!

Great October weekend at Rum Runner
This was the perfect house for our two families for the weekend. The Rum Runner was well outfitted, with a great floor plan and a nicely updated outdoor area/shower. We especially loved the screened in porch area and the great location. Weather was unusually warm during the day, we were at the beach the whole time, with crisp evenings. Another great time at BHI!

Great beach house for family!!
We stayed a week at Rum Runner and enjoyed every minute. The house was perfect for our 3 generations, plenty of room for everyone whether they wanted to be part of the fun, take a nap, or read a book. The house was exactly as pictured and described, the owners were very responsive to any questions we had, and the location was great. A short golf cart ride to the best spot on the beach. Would definitely rent again!

Nice home in a great location for a perfect beach vacation
This property has all of the amenities you are looking for and has a nice setup for a big family. It is tucked away in the Cape Fear Station area on a quiet and shady street in close proximity to beach access in the popular Shoals area. The home has a beautiful wrap around porch with white picket fences in the front yard, a new deck out back, an outdoor shower and two new golf carts. The Cape Fear station has a park that is just steps away where the kids can play and the dogs can walk.

Great Family House
We really enjoyed our stay at Rum Runner. We were 2 families of 5 each, with 6 total kids ages 10, 7 and 4. The bunk room and twin bed room were perfect and separated from the adults. The neighborhood had quiet streets for the kids to roam around on scooters and the proximity to East Beach was amazing. We made sunset walks to the beach nearly every night. The golf carts are new, the AC worked well and the fridge capacity was more than adequate. We have stayed on the island 4 times previously and rarely do all those things line up.

A charming house in BHI
We were likely the first guests when BHI opened back up from the COVID19 craziness and we found the house to be very clean and ready for us. There were some hiccups - which is to be expected with any beach house -- and they were handled promptly and professionally. The owner went above and beyond to work with us on dates since we originally scheduled a date during the travel-ban of COVID19. The owner really deserves a round of applause for the ways she assisted us! If you have been to BHI and found it to be your "cup of tea" then I think you'll love this place.

Nice spacious cottage , well cared for. Suited our family of 11 nicely. Located nearby to Turtle Conservancy and the Shoals Club just a short ride away. Had every amenity that you could wish for. Homeowners attentive to questions and upkeep of their property.

It was nice to be able to have our dogs at the property. The property location was awesome. It was great to have all the Club memberships. However, the property is worn and could use some repair.
