Thaddeus Stevens' Gettysburg Log Home
About this house rental
Located in Gettysburg, this charming house for $240 per night is a great option for your next trip. Be our guest in a beautiful piece of American history! Built in 1790, this log home exemplifies a page from our history books with original wood floors, walls and beams. Located just 5 minutes walk from downtown, Lincoln Square, the home was once owned by Thaddeus Stevens and sits with a front seat view of where the Confederates occupied West Middle Street during the Battle of Gettysburg. The home, while keeping it's historic character, also contains modern conveniences (central air conditioning, recessed lighting, fully updated kitchen and baths, etc.). The Thaddeus Steven's house has 3 cozy bedrooms (upstairs, 2queen, 1full) and 1 & 1/2 bathrooms. Perfect for a couple, family or group of friends! Join us in this gorgeous historical home as you explore Gettysburg! **Please keep in mind the home was built in a time, when people were smaller. Ceilings and doorways are low. The floors slant and creak. The closet space is limited. And the home may not be functional for people with certain physical mobility issues. Appreciate where you are--transported to a special time--imagine yourself in another era! Enjoy Gettysburg!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the cabin. It was like borrowing a friend's special house. Host was very easy to communicate with, and check in instructions were clear, friendly, and helpful. Grocery store is super close, and it's less than a 10 minute walk to the center of town. Good off street parking, easy to get to and perfect location as home base for visiting all the historical sites.

We had a terrific stay at the Thaddeus Stevens log cabin.

We had a great 4 nights at the Thaddeus Stevens home! Sarah was great to communicate with, the house was cozy, and at a great location. The home had everything we needed, and we enjoyed spending time in the backyard. We would absolutely stay here again and cannot recommend it enough!

As advertised, very rustic. Clean and neat. What you would expect in a 240 year old log cabin. But everything functioned and we were perfectly comfortable.

We came to experience Gettysburg and stay in this historic residence in the middle of town was perfect. Thaddeus Stevens was a prominent figure in the area and we were delighted to be a guest in the house.

This house was amazing. To actually live in a piece of history was such a great experience. This place was in the perfect location with the grocery store just down the block along with many restaurants and attractions close by.

Photos in the site do this property justice. It looked exactly as pictured so I did not need my GPS to tell me, "You have reached your destination". Although the property is right on the street, I expected a lot of road noise but tge town is very quiet at night and I did not hear any noise from the neighbors.
The owners were very responsive to my texts and they left very detailed instructions on how to use everything, where to park, how to cleanup and history on the cabin itself. Thaddeus Stevens as a very interesting man.
The only thing you will possibly need to remember to bring is a blow dryer and extension cords as outlets in the bedrooms are difficult to get to.

This property is a fabulous find for those wanting to stay within walking distance of downtown Gettysburg. We found the cabin to be quint, cozy, and very hospitable for us- very well outfitted. I would definitely recommend this for travelers who want to experience a little piece of history.

Great and accurate description on the Internet. Great location walking distance to everything. I would only recommend that it has a dehumidifier as it was very humid and damp in there.

It was a great mini vacation. Between the history of the house and the city we had a great experience.
Everything was clean and within walking distance of the square.
We also enjoyed searching for the dollar bills that previous guests hidden (though we only found 3).
My only suggestion would be to have either room darkening blinds or curtains in the bedrooms. Once the sun came up it was difficult to sleep, and being on vacation, sunrise came way to early.

The home was perfect for our needs and in a great location. Walking distance to shops and restaurants. Enjoyed our stay.

Great location. A true historic gem and experience. The AC worked great, and it’s so charming. It’s a notorious relic—expect creaky floors, low door frames, and a true cabin. But it’s great. Well stocked, easy check in and nice outdoor space. Only suggestion is it needs better mattresses on beds. Kind of hard—bearable, but could be better! Overall really loved it though!

The house is an old historic home. The listing accurately describes the house. The location of the house on Middle Street is ideal for walking around the historic downtown and many museums, shops, and restaurants are in easy walking distance.

The cabin is welcoming and as spacious as most state park cabins. Bedding, linens and bathrooms clean and very comfortable (very comfortable mattresses). Kitchen, pots and silverware clean and lots to work with...only thing wrong was some of the plates were not thoroughly cleaned. Neighborhood is nice, just a block from Lincoln Circle; full grocery across the street. People(including us) leave brochures in a basket in the kitchen with suggestions for sightseeing. We would suggest that in addition to the cleaning after every booking, the folks should consider a "deep clean" around the edges 2-3 times a year (sorry - it gets noticeable after a few days). The owners are great to work with; they seem to really care that you enjoy their house and their city. and again, the location is very central...walk to downtown shopping, five minute drive to the battlefields!

Our (five “40 somethings”) trip has fabulous! Our stay at the house was perfect for our “girls getaway”, plenty of space inside and outside. We loved sitting outside in the backyard as it was very shaded, great patio set and not noisy.
The location of the home was our very favorite part. We could walk everywhere even to the battlefields in about 20 minutes.
Our contact with the host was very easy and they chose to be very available to us if we were in need of any assistance.
We all loved our stay and look forward to another visit soon!

This property is an historic log home that has been updated to give you modern amenities while retaining the historic feel. And they did a wonderful job! It’s within walking distance of so many of the Gettysburg sites and restaurants yet has a relaxing back patio that makes you feel like you’re away from it all. The period log fence (I think it’s called a worm fence) adds the perfect touch. Shower has great water pressure and bed was comfortable. Just a very cool place to stay! Host Sarah is wonderfully responsive and friendly.

I found this house on VRBO and after much research, I knew this was the place to stay! The 3 bedroom house was perfect for my husband, 2 boys, and mother-in-law. We are huge fans of everything paranormal, so we knew we had to bring our EVP recorder! The first night we didn’t catch anything. However, the second night, I asked if anyone had died here. And we caught an evp answering “No.” clear as day! He must be super shy and friendly because that was all we caught, and we didn’t feel anything negative in the house.
The house was stocked with everything we needed, from coffee creamer cups to pitchers! Beds were super comfortable and there were plenty of bath towels. The house is walkable to everything! We definitely recommend the ghost tours and the Seminary Ridge. Only thing we were bummed about was that Little Round Top is inaccessible till summer. But that just gives us another reason to visit next year!

Very cute home. Great location, we did not have to drive to anything which was great. Fun little game while you are there, finding dollar bills that have been hidden by other visitors.

Our family loved Gettysburg and this home could not have been more fun to stay in. Sarah was great and the property is within walking distance to many restaurants, shops and museums.

How exciting to be in this property in this city! It was actualll thrilling. We loved the living room. The bedrooms were all lovely and comfortable, but for the 82 year old, it was a difficult climb up the stairs. At 72 yrs old, I was also nervous and so was the 62 year old. Nevertheless we were careful and the stay was amazing.

Sarah does a great job with communication to ensure that you have a memorable stay. The house is charmingly rustic and only a few minutes walk to downtown. Highly recommend...especially for history buffs.

What a fantastic opportunity for 6 longtime friends (sisters) to reconnect. The log cabin provided an environment for us to tap into our spiritual side and Sarah (the owner) was just a text away. She checked in prior to our arrival with instructions and answered any questions we had. The beds were surprisingly comfy too!

We loved staying here! Sarah was so nice and easy to communicate with. The house is so charming and such a different kind of home that we’ve rented before! We absolutely will stay again sometime! Fun fact: Past guests have started a game to play in the house. You will read about it in the guest books. It was so entertaining that we decided to add to the game! Thank you for letting us enjoy your home!! 🙂

Spent 3 days in Gettysburg… battlefields, tours, great food and this log cabin experience. Manager was easy to communicate with, house was exactly as described, and easy walk to the center of town. You get what it says ‘a pre Civil War’ log cabin!! All the comforts of home as we know it but the log cabin is showing her age!!!

My trip to Gettysburg was decades in the making and this historic home was a step back in time to complete my roadtrip. Located in the center of town , this log cabin was built long before the civil war and was there for the infamous battle. There are uneven floors, a steep stairway to the second floor and doorknobs and locks older than all of us - yet this quant home was perfect for me. The house sits right on the street, yet there is adequate parking off an alley in the rear and a large back yard with table and chairs. Walk around the corner to a full grocery store or a block or two to shops and other intown sites. It was a unique piece of history, and I spent four days using it as my basecamp as I explored everything Gettysburg had to offer. Steve, Brunswick Maine, also the home of Joshua Chamberlain - the hero of Little Round Top

The cabin was perfect for our group for our annual trip to Gettysburg! The only recommendation would be maybe a non-slip mat in the bathtub and a grab bar. Would definitely stay again. Great communication with the owners. Would definitely stay again!

Enjoyed the nostalgia and ambience of the house. Beds are comfortable and the uneven floors and low doors are just as promised and part of the experience.

History!
This is a wonderful place for being in downtown Gettysburg. This is the best stocked VRBO! Sarah is easily contacted. Check out the Roman Numerals for marking the logs when it was moved. The door locks are neat. If you’re wanting to stay at Gettysburg, this is great.
