We had a great stay at Manzanita cabin. Everything in the cabin was perfect. And seeing the wild turkeys and deer were an added bonus!

My friends and I stayed at this place for a girls weekend in Julian. There is so much to do, hiking, wine tasting, breweries and the town is cute. The location is good, not too far from town. Would definitely stay again.

My husband and I celebrated his birthday up at the ranch. Had a very nice time!

This place is so relaxing! We didn’t want to leave. The bed is so comfortable and the master restroom had everything we needed. The kitchen is sparking clean. The tv has all kinds of channels. We will definitely stay here again

We enjoyed the beautiful view of the meadow, mountains, birds, and animals! We saw many birds, 5 deer, and 3 turkeys. The cottage was nice to stay in after a couple issues were resolved. The owner was helpful. The light fixture over one of the bathroom sinks wasn't working. The handyman came the next day with a lampstand. He had to tell us how to turn on the heat pump and it took 2 hours to heat up the cottage. We couldn't use the gas fireplace because the pilot light had blown out and was difficult to start. We killed spiders in both bathrooms and killed ants at the kitchen sink. There is some upkeep that needs to be done such as cleaning the carpet at the front door, cleaning the arm rest and head rest on the chairs, painting the picnic tables and benches, storing landscaping stuff in the shed, storing the outdoor gas heaters elsewhere away from the back porch, and doing some weed cleanup.

The Manzanita Cottage at Shadow Mountain Ranch was a great get-a-way and we enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful view of meadow and deer. The interior was cozy and perfect for us three, easily another adult could of been added. We've been traveling to Julian for twenty years to visit several family members. This is our new go to when there's no room at our families homes.

We initially rented the Manzanita property but there was a heating issue so the property manager offered to rent one of their other cottages. We chose the Enchanted Cottage. It served our purposes, though it was disappointing because it does not have a kitchen like the other property. I had to ask to adjust the price as the Enchanted Cottage is cheaper. However, we were pleased with it. There is a very comfortable king bed and plenty of hot water for bathing. The location is convenient to have some privacy from downtown Julian but still close enough to go to the shops there. When we walked into the property, it smelled like natural gas. The heat was on and the windows were open. I could not find a CO detector. I messaged the manager and she said the smell should go away, the heater had just been restarted after a week. She reassured me that the fire marshall had recently cleared the property. She did not mention anything about a detector. We let the place air out and the smell got a little better but lingered. On the second night of our stay, the smell suddenly got worse despite us not touching the thermostat. There is an electric heater available as well, so we would not have been too cold if we turned it off. Either we did not feel safe breathing the air, and cut our trip short. It was a shame because otherwise, we enjoyed the accommodations.

We were planning on crafting in the Manzanita as part of the Art Retreat. We planned on preparing our own meals there. We were glad that the basics where available. for prep. Cutting boards and knives. It worked out well for us. Not big meals prepared. I do believe pots and pans there. Lots of plates, utensils and cups.
Seemed to have a mosquito issue that had never been there before. Could not spend much time outdoors. Beautiful location for walks and sitting, but could not because we had not defense against them. We had a few people who had walking difficulties. They did fine around the cottage. Mobility was limited. There are areas that are concerning for even those with no issues had to be careful.
We had a hail storm the first night that was enjoyable to watch from inside! The deer in the morning were a beautiful sight. Once sat done by the pond most of the afternoon one day. So quiet at night!

The cabin was wonderful - clean, comfortable, private. It had a real rustic country feel but totally modern and efficient on the inside. Being able to see deer graze along the property in the early morning was a real treat. I would definitely come back again.

This property seems like it was a very charming church retreat center once upon a time. Most of the property is aging without upkeep, but that is balanced with the reasonable rates for overnight stays. We saw dear and wild turkeys on the property, and love the location and peace of the space. We stayed off season when it was pretty warm, but still had lots to do in the area, being situated between Wynola and Julian. This was our second stay over the last few years and we enjoyed both occasions.

In its better days, this ranch was probably spectacular. Today, it is a bit run down and in need of maintenance.
Our unit was comfortable but needed more kitchen ware- knives, bowels, kitchen towels. It needs a woman’s touch to make it much better. Overall we had a comfortable stay and a good experience seeing the Julian area

This rustic ranch definitely provided all our needs. It is a good distance from town, you definitely need a car. I imagine the ranch must have been very quaint 25 years ago, it would be a dream project for a young couple/ family with lots of energy and money to renovate the units and landscape. Very serene.
