We’ve been visiting Maine for about 30 years, exploring new places each time. Our stay at White Cottage was by far the closest to our vision of the quintessential coastal Maine experience. The on-the-water location made for perfect sleeping, with sea breezes and surf sounds. The rustic, comfortable house had everything we needed. The history of the cottage and the obvious love the owners have for it made the place feel like much more than just another summer rental. Even on foggy, rainy days, the wood stove and ocean view provided warmth and contentment. The porch swing was hard to leave. From the bottle of wine that greeted us to the heavy fog that bid us farewell, we enjoyed every moment of our time at the cottage, and we would gladly return.

Very peaceful visit. The house was immaculate and very well stocked with all you could need. We would love to visit again.

Peaceful, comfortable, very accommodating home More so than the website leads you to believe.. The history depicted in the old photographs along with writings from generations of the family owners, lends to the charm.
People who come here love it you feel that.

Pro: Very clean, beautiful setting, quiet neighborhood, supplied with everything one would need. Con: Long way for older people to carry everything from garage to house. Having to take recyclables and garbage to dump, and asked to water plants. It is a vacation!?!?

The location was excellent and we enjoyed the relaxation and tranquility of the week.

Our stay at the lovely Harpswell cottage was wonderful. It was clean, well equipped, had comfortable beds, and the view ... When we were in, we lived in the sun room. We spent time on the beach, visited the Giant's Steps - definitely recommended - the Brunswick farmers market and food trucks - delicious - Erika's seafood, the lovely Pammy's ice cream stand, and toured some of the local potters studios. Most of all though, we relaxed and watched the colors of the sky and sea change. Ahhhh. We would definitely come back.

Beautiful home in a beautiful location
We had a great, extremely relaxing time in Harpswell, and are grateful to have found a place in such a beautiful location that allowed us to bring our dog. The home was lovely and the location beautiful and calm, with plenty of activities (walking, hiking, beaches) in the area. We hope to return someday!

This is a beautiful cottage; we just needed to rest for a week and look at water, and the futon which extended into a recliner for the two of us was perfect for that. Nancy stopped by with wine and water--a lovely welcoming gift--and some beautiful baskets of flowers for the porch--which we took down during the storm midway through the week. We were glad we did, as the storm took the flag pole apart and blew the flag down! The sounds from the water came and went--sometimes loud, sometimes gone--and there was a day and a night of intense wind and rain--pretty cool. We slept with the window open to hear the waves and feel the sea breeze, and it was perfect. The property is well-stocked and comfortable--I was concerned that we might be chilly but there was a woodstove if we needed it--we didn't--and an electric heater that we used one day. Mostly the solar gain on the three-sided sunporch was enough, and the house held heat well. One thing to be aware of if you are someone who has used up most of their knees--the beautiful airy bedrooms on the second floor are reached by a steep set of stairs, and the bathroom is on the first floor--not unusual in these kinds of family cottages, but worth being aware of. My wife was in an orthopedic boot and my older small dog couldn't manage going down the stairs on her own, but we all made it work (and it's good to have something you want to come back home for!). The bed was super comfortable! The yard is pretty and the steps down to the beach are again a little rough if you don't have great mobility, but with patience and balance it was worth it! There was a lot of sea glass marinating down on the unusual rocks of the beach--chunks of quartz, mica, granite, and other stones--a lot of fun to beachcomb. Watching the guys deal with their lobster traps--very heavy, numerous, and without a clear way to the dock from the road--made me not care a bit about paying a lot for lobster! What a very challenging way to make a living. There was plenty of seafood, and we enjoyed going into Brunswick to eat and look at shops. We also went to the Giant's Stairs on the next island, and that was fun and worth doing. All in all, we were looking for a quiet, restful way to recharge from a long winter and spring of hard work, and I just wish we could have had a longer stay!

Having recently returned from a perfectly relaxing, interesting and very yet active week at this Harpswell cottage I would like to share.....The accommodations are clean and well equipped with all needed for cooking lobster dinner at home or french toast and bacon for breakfast. The ocean is directly off the deck and very interesting to watch the lobster boats go off on their excursions and return at night. We were able to take advantage of nearby State beaches, hiking trails, museums and farmers markets , and antique shops only to return "home" in the evening for a fire in the small woodstove and relax. The history of the local area was palpable. Can't say enough about this wonderful respite and hope to return next year.

We have just returned from a one week stay at the Hurricane Ridge Cottage and I wish we could drive back this very minute. The location of the pristine Victorian Summer Home overlooking the Merriconeag Sound is simply spectacular. Waterfront sights and sounds of the crushing tides make this holiday home so special. Pair this with quaint furnishing of the cottage and and a feeling of a bygone era and there you have your perfectly relaxing vacation experience.
The kitchen is very well equipped for travelers wishing to cater to themselves and you really do not have to bring anything. I suggest one first quick inspection upon arrival and then one shopping trip to nearby Hannaford at Brunswick to stock up your supplies.
We very much enjoyed the cozy living room where we lit a fire in the chilly evenings. It was so relaxing. But be aware that as temperatures drop it does get rather cold in the otherwise unheated cottage. We booked the linen package with our stay and slept under as many as 4 wollen blankets to stay warm at night. Everything is provided against a fee.
The best thing was that we could bring our senior dogs on the trip since this rental welcomes pets. In colder months I would bring a doggie jumper or jacket to keep you pet warm overnight. There is a hoover which we used frequently to keep the home clean. I could not really think of one thing I missed.
The host Leanne is very concerned with the well-being of the guests and checked in on us during the stay. That paired with her excellent communication skills made booking this place an easy and enjoyable experience.
We spent the week hiking, exploring the food scene in Brunswick and around (excellent lamb curry at Shere Punjab, fantastic smoked fish spread at Gurnet Trading Post) and visiting the impressive Maritime Museum of Maine in nearby Bath, including a boat tour.
For history buffs: don't miss a visit to the Joshua Chamberlain Museum in Brunswick, you will have to prearrange a private tour as long a there are covid precautions in place.
For food lovers: Pick up your fresh lobsters from Erica's Seafood, but do call in advance.
Thank you Leanne for sharing your treasured family possession, we have recommended your home to friends and would surely come back to experience Summer in this magical place.
PS. Will try and upload some pics of our stay

Wonderful Vacation Home in Perfect Location
My family and I spent two weeks in the Hurricane Ridge Cottage. What a wonderful home! The home is cozy and clean, the kitchen is well equipped, and you can’t beat the location, just steps to a picturesque pebbly beach. The home is on a quiet street and the neighbors treated us like old friends. The perfect summer home!

My week at this beautifully situated Victorian cottage was a little piece of heaven. We spent most of our time on the enclosed sun porch enjoying the million dollar view of the pink and yellow sunrises, and we ate most of our meals out there. We even attempted a 1000 piece puzzle but ran out of time...precious time. I hope to come back again next year and finish that puzzle!

My husband and I contracted to rent this cottage for a week beginning 6/2/12. The day after we arrived, I contacted the owner and extended our stay for 5 additional days! It was that cute! The cottage is right on the water with fantastic views across to Orr's and Bailey Islands. It's sweet and cozy and very comfortable. We had several days of rain while we visited...but didn't care because we were in such a beautiful spot. Our dogs (2 of them) give it 8 paws up .... and so do we.

9/19/03 Week's end at Hurricane Ridge. Isabel's blowing winds and rain. Ok, great weather all week. Your home and the spectacular views are utter enchantment, a perfect refuge, an escape from the real world with all its noise and upheaval. Breakfasts on the sunporch, staring out at the sunglittered water. Candlelight dinners with favorite music (excellent cdplayer). Read books on the sundeck, but difficult to keep our eyes on the pages, easily distracted by nature's beauty or by that droopy feeling that overcomes a truly relaxed person. Bath, picturesque Boothbay Harbor, antiquing, lobster rolls-yum! Our daughter and friend from Baltimore joined us. She's an artist, awestruck and inspired by the scenes. His 1st trip to Maine, totally captivated! Kayaking. Gorgeous Popham Beach. Trekked thru Portland, shopped in Freeport. Beach glass, sunsets and stargazing. We did their birthdays at Çook's. My family and I stayed at lovely Hurricane Ridge cottage in late June. We have rented many houses on the Maine Coast, but this truly was the best. A vacation cottage in the best sense of the word. A perfect location—peaceful and beautiful yet close to good food, farmers markets, bookstores, and for that lone rainy day, movies. However, most of our time was spent reading on the back porch while looking at the islands (parents) or reading on Harry Potter on the porch swing (kids). We highly recommend this cottage.

My husband and I spent our summer vacation this year at Hurricane Ridge Cottage. What a beautiful spot. We love watching the lobster boats early in the morning and the charm and peacefulness of South Harpswell. It's a perfect place to spend a quiet and relaxing vacation. This is my first Maine summer vacation since moving from the state to New York state in 1980. Nothing beats the southern Maine coast, the sights, the smells and the wonderfulness of it all. To the Whites, thanks for opening your summer home to us.

The Whites' cottage is situated so close to the water, that at high tide it feels akin to being on the bridge of a ship. It provides spectacular views of South Harpswell, Orrs, Bailey, Pinkham and Haskell islands, the famed Halfway Rock lighthouse and the shoreline leading to lovely Potts Point. The deck that lines the cottage is narrow, but a perfect perch for reading, sunning or just appreciating the view. Like all cottages in this part of Maine, it has rustic construction, but even though it is more than 100 years old, it is quite comfy and well-appointed with amenities that aren't always found in such rentals in this quiet area of coastal Maine. It also provides nice access to the "beach" out front, which though lacking in sand, is easily navigable with only small sea-washed rocks and shells underfoot. All in all, a highly recommended site to enjoy the charms of Harpswell!

This is our 2nd summer staying at the White's cottage. We stumbled across it last year when looking for a place my husband and I could go with our dog. We have had two wonderful summers in the cottage both around the 4th of July week. Weather is usually great and the peace and quiet of the location is most inviting. We very much enjoyed the new stereo, video library and welcome basket added this year. We are expecting our first child in a few weeks and hope to be able to bring the baby and dog next year!

We spent a wonderful and peaceful week at the White cottage. The Dolphine Chowder House was a great place to eat and meet some of the local people. We did a lot of traveling up and down the southern coast taking in the breathtaking views of the ocean and poking around in many little shops along the way. We will be getting married in June of 2006 and plan on returning to this cozy little cottage to spend our honeymoon. What a way to begin a marriage!

Our two weeks in your special cottage by the sea gave us some history of your family, and your love of the area. I loved the sounds of the tides, the porch and its great vistas, and the wood stove! We had everything we needed while staying at your wonderful cottage and we hope to come back soon for other vacations. It is easy to fall in love with the Maine Coast while staying at the White's.
Thank you for your hospitality! It was a great vacation.

Our short time at the cottage was the best vacation that we have ever had! The sounds of the waves was so peaceful and the views are breathtaking. We had days that were foggy but even the fog couldn't dampen our spirits, it was just an incredible place. We will cherish those memories forever and we hope to return there again in the future.

Our weeklong stay at Hurricane Ridge was the highlight of our summer. On many vacations I've had "house envy", thinking that other houses on the street would be just a little bit better but not this time. The White's cottage is the best location on the best street on a terrific quiet neck in Maine. The beach (pebble-y) is right out the door and unlike many, this one is good swimming at low or high tide and perfectly suited for all ages. The neighbors are neighborly but not noisey. We walked, biked, and ran everyday with their being plenty of new places to explore. The nearest town for shopping is about 15 miles away but all the essentials are available within a 5-10 minute ride.
If you are considering Hurricane Ridge Cottage be aware that it is old and that's part of its charm. If you like the antique look you will love living in this mini museum. The Whites have updated the kitchen appliances so the kitchen is fully functional. My only reservation would be for groups that include people who have limited mobility because the stairs to the top bedrooms are steep and narrow or with people who are large because the stall shower is quite modest in size.
Lastly, the Whites are very helpful landlords and you will receive great tips on where to go and what to do from Bob.

I had been 20 years since the last
time I stayed at this cottage.
Thankfully very little has changed. It
was the same relaxing, enjoyable
experience as before. I was able,
this time, to share the experience
with my 3 year old daughter. She
loved it also. I couldn't keep her
away from the beach and all it's
adventures. I will difinately be
coming back much sooner than
another 20 years.

My husband and I stayed at the Ridge Cottage at the end of June/beginning of July. Our stay included the 4th of July. Most of the week was sunny and warm. We spent our time sailing, reading, shopping, and enjoying the peacefulness. We attended the Independence Day Pops Concert performed by the Portland Symphony Orchestra in Topsham and enjoyed music celebrating our nation and a wonderful fireworks display.
