New York Designer's Caribbean Hideaway on Sapphire Beach
About this apartment rental
First, WE ARE BACK 100% from the Hurricanes. Full power, AC, Free WIFI and CableTV, everything you need. Our pictures look exactly the same now as they did last year. Start with what Frommer’s Guide says are Sapphire Beach Resort's “Jawdropping Views”. And you won't get closer to the water than this duplex condo unless you rent a boat. We sit right at the waters edge on Sapphire Beach Add the taste of two New York designers whose clients, past and present, include Ralph Lauren, Tom Ford, Giorgio Armani. Vintage bamboo furniture with white upholstery, blue and white Chinese porcelains, white tile floors and a framed collection of 1940's black and white sailing photos. With the key component of total privacy from passersby or neighbors, and the luxury of enough space to allow you to catch some quiet moments completely to yourself. A two level duplex with connecting mahogany staircase, each level with it's own terrace, floor to ceiling 14 foot wide walls of glass with unmatchable views with pure white curtains pulled to the sides. From inside the apartment, you will not see anything but turquoise and sapphire blue water - as if you are sailing on an ocean liner with your own balconies. The photos tell the story. Downstairs, a comfortable living room with an optional sleeping couch and armchair, an outdoor dining table for up to 6, a desk and bureaus. Sliding mahogany doors can separate your kitchen area to create a second bedroom. A downstairs bathroom comes complete with two-sink vanity and shower. Generous baskets filled with luxurious beach towels.. Large new flatscreen cable tv with dvd, video and all channels. A Bose dock for your ipod. Outside on the 11 X 14 foot terrace, banquettes and chaise lounges with total privacy. No one looking down from balconies above you or up from the beach below, allows morning to midday sunbathing with total privacy. Outdoor breakfast/lunch tables for four. Oiled louvered tropical wood side walls add the luxury of Caribbean style. Constant, cooling tradewind breezes. Upstairs, the Master Suite at the top of the mahogany stairs is crowned with a 18 foot high cathedral ceiling. Hurricane lamps, white ceiling fan, vintage bamboo furniture, tropical wood doors, blue and white Chinese porcelains and upholstery, a black and white vintage sailing image gallery, and a huge king size bed to get lost in. Second flatscreen tv, dvd, video. Free WIFI and Cable. Another wall of floor to ceiling glass with extraordinary views of the British Virgin Islands, St. John and the Cays, not to mention the turquoise and sapphire water of your imagination and the covers of travel magazines. Each evening, open a great bottle of wine, tax free in the USVI, go out on the upstairs terrace to watch the sunset coloring the clouds and the moonrise over British Tortola. After dark, light the candles inside and on the terraces, turn off the lights, and sit listening to the waves below. Watch the lights glittering on the islands, the ferries going to and from Cruz Bay, the glow of the restaurants at Caneel Bay, a million stars above you. Bliss. Everything that you could wish to do will be waiting for you each morning. Swimming on your half mile sugar white beach in turquoise water. Snorkeling on the reefs directly under your terraces. Sunning on your private terrace chaises or by the magnificently sited fresh water pool. Reading in the shade of the palm trees. Wandering the docks of the marina looking at yachts and talking to the fishermen back with their day’s catch. The E building is at the quiet end of the resort, with it's own beach, and perfectly oriented views. No noise from the pool, or crowds of cruise ship tourists. Ever. A true escape. FREE snorkeling equipment and beach chairs. At the Watersports Pavilion down the beach you will find rentable kayaks, windsurfing and paddling boards. Plus scuba diving classes for low fees. At Sapphire’s Marina, literally downstairs from the E Building, are everything from Jet Skis, Parasailing, Catamaran Cruises to Jost Van Dyke and legendary White Bay with The Soggy Dollar Bar, sportfishing for marlin and whatever else you desire, Powerboat day rentals, even Day Sails on Yachts if your wallet allows. Day trips to St John to Trunk Bay, Cinnamon Bay, Hawks Nest Beach are minutes away at the Redhook Ferry. You have no need to rent a car the week you stay with us. Everything you need is reachable by cab in Red Hook or at the Food Center. You can visit all of St Thomas’s favorite sites. The beautiful Danish colonial town of Charlotte Amalie, with its shady Royal Palm Passage offers you hours of wonderful shopping with world famous bargains in jewelry, watches and liquor. There are fantastic restaurants within 5 minutes in Red Hook, our quarter-mile-away village with shops, markets, bars, restaurants, and ferries, or on the list we provide you of our own personal picks. Arrangements can be made for you to be met at the airport by our favorite car service, or you can grab a local cab outside the terminal to take you to Sapphire. On the way you can ask your driver to stop at Food Center or Moe's Market for supplies. Your Caribbean Hideaway is for a couple who want a feeling of casual luxury at the beach with the traditional feel of the elegant easy going Old Caribbean. If you want quiet, privacy and space, with some style thrown in, if you don't want to cook, eat, and sleep, in the same room, then this beautiful two floor duplex is just the place to chill and to restore your spirit. We truly love kids, but this just is NOT the place for them. NO exceptions for anyone under 18. This is a quiet, low key, casually elegant retreat for adults to savor and to unwind in. The views of this property are just incredible… the space itself has great character and the decor is really lovely. The owner has been communicative & helpful & gracious from the start ~ we felt well taken care of. The amenities were 10/10 … we ate at Seasalt every night (delicious and amazing ambience and service) and Sapphire Beach was beautiful. Great vibe here!

The Property was Beautiful and the location was breathtaking. I Highly recommend ❤️❤️❤️

My wife and I had a great time at Sapphire Beach. The beach is fantastic with great snorkeling right out your door.
The hosts provided great recommendations for restaurants and sightseeing options. We really enjoyed the outdoor deck space to sit and watch the sunrise.

The view from the two balconies is spectacular.
I spent many hours just watching the light play on the water, transforming it into unbelievable shades of blue and turquoise. The islands serving as backdrop with misty layers of hills upon hills, in shades of grays and greens, depending on the time of day. The frothy waves breaking on the jetty was just memorizing. The boats coming to and from the marina. So nice and quiet at this end of the beach.
At the other end, near the bar, soft sugar sand, music, people and great swimming. Fun!
We spent 10 days at this home away from home and felt so comfortable. The bed, the furniture, is conducive to relaxation. I loved having access to floaties, snorkel gear, yoga mats, and a kitchen that was easy to cook in.
The host was quick to respond to our text message question.
It's quite a magical place. I highly recommend.

Property is fantastic and the hosts make the preparation for our trip and stay just amazing! Only critique of the location is the cruise passengers that dominate the beach on busy cruise arrival days. Check cruse arrival schedules and it really help you plan you day!

This property is in the perfect location - building E is off to the edge of the property, making it quiet and secluded, without being a long walk to the main Sapphire beach. It was decorated beautifully, but maybe a bit cluttered for my liking. The view is unbeatable! The bed is comfortable, as were the rest of the furniture. You do lose power during storms, but it wasn’t out for long. Perhaps the power outages lead to it being a bit hotter inside than I would have preferred. The AC did work, just not great, but you’re in the Caribbean, so who can complain?!

The unit was just as it looked. The location on the island was perfect!! I reached out to the owners about a couple things and they replied right away. I would definitely stay there again.

Absolutely wonderful!!! Peter & Beverly provided us with so much information, from how to check in, drivers to use, what to pack and where to go! They were so responsive and genuinely curious of we were having a good stay. It has been a very long time since we have stayed somewhere with so many amenities, where the owners really seem to care about your experience. Their condo is gorgeous, with immediate beach access in an overall excellent location. Sapphire beach is stunning. We will definitely be back!

The condo is incredible, it has two floors 2nd being master bedroom with sitting area, balcony and bath. First floor is main living room with sofa bed, balcony, kitchen and 2nd bath. They have everything you need for your stay from kitchen items to snorkel gear and beach towels. Owners are easy to work with, they send a detailed email for everything in condo, restaurants in area with real opinions not just hyping up places. They give info about St John and things to do. Anytime we needed any help ( which was not often) they responded very quickly. The condo is near marina side which is quiet side, take a short walk on beach to get to main beach and resort bars and pizza place. Chairs are included big plus. Stunning morning sunrise. We enjoyed our entire stay we would stay in same unit if we ever come back.

We would definitely stay here again. The room had everything we needed and more. The location was perfect. Host was very responsive.

This is an ideal location on Sapphire Beach. While the invasive seaweed prevented us from using the beach immediately outside our room, the views, access to pool, and privacy cant be beat. Peter was a responsive host. The condo felt like home as my husband and i spent 10 days celebrating our 12th anniversary. We didnt want to leave and will certainlybe back. We struggled with renting a car from.Elliott who never responded to multiple callls and texts. We went with Joel at Country Car Rental. The service was fantastic and they even stopped off and picked up right at the condo!
One restaurant recommendation would be Surf and Turf Bistro in Charlotte Amaile. It doesnt look appealing from the outside, but was so good! Also grab the chicken tacos at the Sapphire Beach bar!

Great condo with full amenities to enjoy awesome views of neighboring islands. Once inside, the place was well decorated in a nautical theme to go with the experience of staying on an island. We snorkeled every day right off the shore when we did not have a boat excursion planned at Sapphire Marina, a 5 minute walk. Nice sea grape trees provided shade we were looking for while enjoying comfortable lounge chairs provided by the complex. We saw sting rays, turtles and loads of fish. The coral was beautiful as well. We had a bonus of enjoying doves in their nest with squads that just hatched on their balcony.

We had the most amazing experience at Sapphire Beach. Our host was absolutely incredible! They were so accommodating and helpful in every way. We felt so welcome and the condo was well equipped with everything we needed. The view was amazing and we enjoyed all the restaurants on site. We were able to enjoy the local areas as well. We cannot wait to plan another stay at Sapphire.

The condo was exactly as stated” and then some! Fully stocked and breathtaking views! We enjoyed our birthday and wedding anniversary! We traveled to Magens bay “ St John and of course the soggy dollar! All of Peters and Booms literature was so greatly appreciated and so helpful! Can’t wait to come back! Thanks so much for sharing your sapphire paradise condo🥰

The condo was beautiful, clean and well-stocked. The view is amazing. I appreciated being able to leave our luggage in the hallway (when we got there early and also before we left), that was very helpful. We loved it and would definitely stay here again.

Sapphire beach Has to be the best beach on Saint Thomas with the most beautiful views! And our accommodations were second to none! Our host had everything we needed for our stay and was very accessible. My sisters, and I could not have had a better time! The three of us look forward to coming back soon!

Perfect location— beach bar and restaurants on the property are convenient and also close to Red Hook. Can’t beat waking up to the ocean view every morning!

Couldn’t ask for a better place to stay. Right on the beach so we were able to visit the beach everyday. Loved everything about our stay.

We had great experience and really enjoyed staying Peter and Boom’s condo. Peter was super helpful in every way, including contacting other owners on our behalf as we need to rent a second unit for the family. The unit is exactly as advertised-spectacular views, nicely decorated, and private. We will go back again!

The views from both floors of this condo are stunning!! We loved the blue and white decor - it was spacious but felt like home. We did not use the AC once since the sound of the waves and the sea breezes were all we needed.
The condo has a beautiful beach with great snorkeling at the north end. The location is perfect being close to Red Hook, the ferry to St John and plenty of restaurants. If we return to St. Thomas we will definitely stay here.

First of all - our vacation was wonderful! The condo was great - very spacious and comfortable and the view could not be beat. The lesson learned - sapphire beach is gorgeous but not walkable to restaurants that serve other than fast food I.e. pizza (good pizza). So unless you rent a car, plan to spend $40.00 a night for 2 to go for dinner just for the taxi. Go with the van from the airport vs waiting for the the taxi to come pick you up. Bring your own snorkel gear. The snorkeling is incredible and you want to be sure to have good equipment. Or at least not heavily used. Fall is humid (even inside)
Make reservations before you arrive for water activities. Even in the off season. At least do some research a month in advance. Don’t bother with Charlotte amalie unless you want to shop for jewelry.
I mentioned good pizza - try the Beach Bunny. - delicious! Go to St John’s La Tappa. Really special spot. Pain killers are yummy😊

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sapphire Beach resort. The convenience to Red Hook for restaurants and groceries was nice. The area was beautiful, laid back, and friendly. The views from our unit were million dollar! We went to celebrate our 30th anniversary and rest and relaxation was top notch!

Just wanted to say thank you for a wonderful stay. It was a wonderful experience being back to Sapphire after all these years, so much has changed and for the better. Both JoAnn and I were very impressed with your taste in decor, the blue and white color scheme is our personal favorite. Secondly, it was so welcoming to have everything we could possibly need as far as soap, shampoo, paper towels, garbage bags, toilet paper, all the items that a traveler will need for their stay, great!
We have spent over 13 years at Sapphire and this stay was one of our best, and for that I thank you.
With that said we would not hesitate to return. Actually, we are planing on returning next year.
Sincerely
Jeff & JoAnn

We had a great experience and Peter was great to work with. He let us know everything we needed to know in case we couldn’t fly out due to Fiona. He was great to work with and we felt safe with a storm approaching knowing we could stay extra if we needed to. I would definitely recommend!

Clean, cool, and relaxing
I stayed here for 2 weeks for my honeymoon with my wife. The Millards were great hosts and took care of all questions I had in the months leading up to our stay. The place was always cool and comfortable to stay and sleep in. The place was cleaned meticulously by the cleaning staff on-site. They even did a mid-stay clean and made the place look as good as new!
The only downside was the look and smell of the sargassum that was present on part of the beach during our stay, something the host had no control over. Workers raked the seaweed every day, but their efforts were akin to scooping buckets of water to dry the ocean. It may be seasonal, but the sargassum was not leaving anytime while we were there.
Parking was easy on site, and the beach bar located on Sapphire Beach was one of the better ones on the island. They opened a pizza place in 2022 on the beach, and it is very good and somewhat "fancy" pizza. The pool was always clean and very nice to sit at. The pool bar was closed, but bringing our own drinks into the pool was no issue and saved us money.
Finally, the nightly price for this place was great. This place was a great deal and will probably be the most affordable part of your stay on St Thomas.

Our week at Sapphire was amazing! This was our third stay in Building E and I highly recommend NY Designer’s Caribbean Hideaway to anyone seeking lovely condo, on a spectacular beach with breathtaking views. This condo was by far the most well stocked VRBO rental of all the places we have stayed. From bar soap, shampoo/conditioner, TP and tissues, to trash bags, Zip Lock Bags and plenty of plastic storage containers for packing fresh fruit, yogurt, etc, to take to the beach. The condo is exactly as it appears online and great care was taken when furnishing and decorating the condo. We loved the third floor terrace with sofa, lounge chair and dining tables. The swim noodles were nice to take with us when beach hopping.
John Bodnar/Innovations 2 took us for a day trip around St John and we explored bays and beaches we had not yet explored by taking the car barge. Innovations 2 leaves from Sapphire Marina so it was easy to hop on the boat for a fun filled day.
Check in process was easy and Peter responded quickly with any questions I had prior to and after booking. I highly recommend booking this condo and we will definitely stay again. Thank you, Peter, for sharing your lovely condo with us.

Retirement Trip
Excellent condo in a beautiful setting! Loved our two weeks there! So many amenities in our condo made us feel right at home! Beautifully decorated!!
Only negative is no laundry facilities in the unit and two of the three washers were broken so it made the process a lot longer!

My wife enjoyed a week of fun in the sun (OK, all but 1 day was sunny, but after a month's worth of April rain in Pittsburgh, beggars can't be choosers...). The condo matches Peter and Beverly's description quite well... Clean, plenty of room (especially for 2), with wonderful views directly overlooking the water on two decks, and perhaps one of the most comfortable King sized beds I've had in a rental or hotel in a long time.
We opted to not rent a car, and stuck with taxi service (pre-booked as recommended for the arrival and departure trips to the airport, and used the very handy on-site taxi stop as well). I won't claim it is the cheapest way around the island during your stay (About $100 USD Each Way for two for airport arrival/departure, and about $20 USD, including tip, for two to get to and back from Moe's grocery, or the Ferry dock, for example), but if driving on the "wrong" side of the winding road isn't your bag, then I think you'll find it to be money well spent.
The pool at the resort is very nice, and was pleasantly "under-crowded" during our stay, but it's worth a quick note that what apparently "once was" the integral pool bar, has yet to make a comeback from the last hurricane that came to town. Every cloud has a silver lining though, as the lack of operational pool bar, also meant you were free to bring your own cooler of beverages (no glass, of course), which may have saved me enough money for a return flight next year - lol. There are also 2 other resort operated bars only a few hundred yards away from the pool, adjacent to the beach edge, so all is not lost, and I'd be remiss to not mention a 3rd option of the bar/restaurant "Sudi's" which is just a few minute walk around and above the marina.
The condo has a kitchen, of admittedly not large size, but well stocked with pots/pans/utensils and quite capable of "cooking in" at least a few nights if you wish to defray some costs. Didn't go on vacation to toil in the kitchen?? No worries - The info Peter provides has LOTS of dining options, including off prem (and even off island, for any jaunts you may take to St. John, etc.).
Enough of my typing (and I'm sure you're tired of reading my drivel by now)... Safe travels, and I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay!

This rental looks exactly like the pictures. The view is indescribable and we loved the location. Peter even called me with an update on the water situation and even recommended a great place to eat.
