About this house rental

Situated in Harrington, this lovely house for $250 per night is a great option for your next trip. Welcome! January 14 2024 update: WE ARE ALL RIGHT AFTER THESE HUGE December-January STORMS!!! Yes, we've replaced a few flying roof shingles, and we have a little beach cleanup to do when warmer, calmer weather arrives. But we are grateful that our road and our home are on higher ground than many coastal properties that you may be reading about in the news. COME! STAY! RELAX! Currently, our property is available to book through July 4, 2024, and again after November 25, 2024. We now give priority to longer-term visitors. But always ask about dates you may be interested in, including for a minimum stay of a week or two, in case there are quick changes in the schedule. We'll accommodate you if we can. *** IMPORTANT ABOUT RATES: it's not possible to set up an accurate one-size-fits-all cost calculation for longer stays through the platform's standardized system--we've tried--so please ASK for details before you request a booking, and we'll be happy to give you a customized quote based on your dates! :) SEND US INQUIRIES any time. Just please don't formally request dates till you've asked about availability and the actual cost for you. It hurts our standing in the rental platform if we decline booking requests. REVIEWS: Since March 2020, we've mostly had long-term, private-booking renters, hence the slight age of most reviews here. Now about that DESCRIPTION... =============== Hello! Here at Fish Point we’re unique in welcoming not only summer and fall vacationers, but also, year-round, business travelers or medical personnel needing a longer stay, and people desiring artist-retreat rentals: writers, visual artists, and composers/songwriters. * While we know some travelers look for a stand-alone house, this is not "just an apartment." As one happy guest remarked when he first walked in: "You have a palazzo [a palace] here!" We're highly respectful of our guests' needs for peace and privacy. Meanwhile, we're available for special needs, help in emergencies, the latest tips and advice about the area. We call our rental business "THE 'GUST' HOUSE" for the sea winds that make things exciting! Our home was built in 2002, on a 3-1/2 acre property with a fascinating early American naval-defense history. The house is right along quiet Fickett's Point Road, on the back side of Narraguagus Bay just minutes from Milbridge's center. It's a great road for scenic walks & biking. Cross the broad field behind our house, and you come first to a beautiful gazebo facing the bay (new in 2020), then to a footbridge leading to our own wooded peninsula, used only by our family and guests, which gives you 270-degree views of the ocean, bay, town, and spectacular sunsets across the water. Enjoy the sights from the gazebo, the trail, the benches, or take a meal out to the picnic table at the end of the Point! Sunsets are spectacular out there. A set of stairs leads you down to the beach, one of the rare sand beaches on the Maine coast--along with the large boulders characteristic of the area. We're near the town marina, and kayak rentals are nearby. We live in the adjoining house, which we've made sonically and visually private from the 1300 SF apartment. The rental apartment is all on the ground floor, with its own private entrances, garden, and a patio/terrace facing the water. The facility is handicap-accessible, with wide doorways and hall, and flooring of tile, wood and low-nap carpeting--smooth surfaces for walkers or wheelchairs. Bedrooms are large for this part of Maine. One has a king bed and the other 2 have queen beds. The king BR has its own private ensuite bathroom with shower. The other two BR's share a bathroom with a large tiled shower. The fully appointed kitchen has excellent appliances, including dishwasher and high quality LP gas range/oven. And of course a lobster pot! The dining area adjoins the large living room, and the apartment has its own washer & dryer. Decor and furnishings are charming, restful--and unique, not off-the-rack. Other amenities: Up-to-date flat-screen television with Direct TV, Roku with Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc., plus internet music programs and other bundled services. Starlink internet, blazing fast. Cell services work fine in our location. Small library, games for rainy days, etc. Since acquiring this home in April 2014, we've been gradually restoring the lovely garden beds that surround the entire house. They combine native and wild plants with more formal plantings. The apartment has its own "secret garden" area, and private patio with a view across the fields and bay., and its own BBQ grill. Though 2014 was our first year at Fish Point, we owned a vacation cottage in Milbridge from 2008-22, and have rented to travelers since 2009. We've gotten raves from our renters at both properties! LOCATION, LOCATION: Guests often tell us how happy they are about our geographic location, too, since we're about equidistant from Mt. Desert Island (Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor) and the farthest-east coastal towns like Lubec and Eastport -- and Campobello Island! Do bring passports if you plan to visit Campobello, since it's Canadian. It's easy to make a day or half-day trip to these famous, fascinating vacation spots from our place. We're just about an hour's drive from ACADIA NATIONAL PARK. The main part of the Park is on Mount Desert Island, about 50 minutes from us. But a less-known section, Schoodic Point, is just about 20 minutes away, and is quieter, fewer crowds, same breath-taking views. Schoodic Point, this part of Acadia that Mainers tend to frequent, also has a fine information and conference center and campground, and is near many art and craft studios. * Our guests' vacation and retreat rental fees help to support the work of Sunrise County Arts Institute, the small Maine non-profit we founded in 2014 as a resource for quality music, theater, writing and visual arts activities in Milbridge and the DownEast/Acadia area.

The house was immaculately clean. Danielle and Claude were very gracious hosts. The views were beautiful, and this was a very enjoyable place to stay. Close to the Schoodic Peninsula, and not too far from Machias and Campobello for folks who would like to visit the FDR compound there. I would heartily recommend that you stay here!

We had a great stay in Milbridge. The property was well furnished, very comfortable, private and quiet. We felt like we came home each evening to our little retreat. The beds were comfortable, the bathrooms were well appointed, and the kitchen (plus the outdoor gas grill) had everything you would need to prepare meals. The living room was a comfortable place to hang out. Thanks Danielle and Claude for a great stay.

My family and I agree with the other 5 star reviewers. Outdoors: The peninsula is very long and private. It's a great place for sitting and relaxing. The beach is large enough to play paddle ball, and fun to explore. There are two decent sized fields my 9 year old son enjoyed playing in. There was a fire pit on the patio to roast s'mores. Inside: It's clean and stocked with everything we could need. The area: It's worth the drive. We've rented places on Mount Desert Island before and have to say I much prefer this area of the coast. It's beautiful and but doesn't have crowds, and the locals are friendly. We really enjoyed our vacation!

This beautifully maintained attached apartment rental was ideal for our first VRBO experience. I fear they may have set the bar too high for future vacations! Situated on a very peaceful, quiet point, it was the perfect get-away for 3 busy professionals. It can be hard to unplug when you have a demanding career, but this location made it easier because of the wonderful amenities, which included excellent WiFi connectivity. We didn’t have to worry about how the office would reach us in the case of an emergency. It was an easy drive to MDI (Mount Desert Island-home of Bar Harbor Village and Acadia National Park) and the beautiful rugged coast of Downeast Maine! We had many lovely drives through the picturesque landscape and have some wonderful pictures to remember our stay for years to come. It was also quite easy to get to Lubec, Maine and the beautiful lighthouse at West Quoddy Head (the easternmost point in the USA), and the entry point for Campobello Island, NB Canada. Claude, Danielle (and Pongo, too!) made us feel at home immediately. Generous information was provided about the many attractions in the area, both very near and a short distance by car. Sunset on the point is beautiful, and should not be missed! The local grocery store is quite close and extremely well stocked for such a small town. We were able to find everything we wanted to keep costs down by cooking in the apartment most mornings and a few evenings. The kitchen in the apartment is well stocked, and we never had to “make do”, since everything we needed (in the way of utensils, dishware, pots/pans, etc.) was provided. We chose the perfect week to see the gorgeous fall colors of Maine, and are so appreciative of the kindness of our hosts. Thank you for allowing us to rent your fabulous apartment. We truly had a memorable stay!
