Rates are Seasonal - The Standard Rate is an average. Rates change by season/month. Please contact owner for seasonal rate or questions. Max occupancy 4 people. No pets and no smoking permitted. PLUM ISLAND'S CROWN JEWEL This spirited and totally charming 80 year old 2 bedroom, 2 and 1/2 bath cottage has been completely renovated and offers the best of old and new. The light, 'feel good' energy and new construction amenities make it the most desirable rental on Plum Island. The ocean and beach are literally across the street - the beach access path is 3 houses away. The house has 360 degree ocean and marsh views that can be enjoyed from the roof top deck and house. A few of the many features include: open floor plan with ample seating and dining space, 2 private bedrooms each with a queen sized bed and full private bath, an additonal half bath, great natural light, fireplace, small but perfect gourmet kitchen with marble countertops, stainless appliances and breakfast bar, central air, washer and dryer, wireless internet, outdoor spaces including expansive rooftop deck with covered and open sitting areas that have both ocean and marsh views - each are furnished for maximum enjoyment. Additional grade level decks for grilling and dining. Master bedroom with ocean view. Office/Desk alcove is ideal place to write or if necessary, work - wireless internet for your use. Flat Screen TV in the living room. Property is surrounded by 5 ft fence which provides optimum privacy for ground level decks and outdoor dining. Outdoor spaces furnished with glass topped iron table and 4 chairs, 4 other chairs and 2 small tables. Roof Deck has 2 lounge chairs, Brown and Jordan wicker sofa and chairs with cushions and ottomans and tables. 4 Beach Chairs are available for your use. Check in Time is 2:00 PM on day of arrival. Check out time is 11:00 AM Sharp on day of departure. All paper and cleaning products, sheets, towels and beach towels, shower gel and hand soap are provided for your use. PRIOR TO CHECK OUT: Guests must wash and dry and towels they used, remove all food they brought into the property and take out the trash. Do not strip beds, housekeeper will take care of all bed linens and all other cleaning. OWNER PROVIDES ACCESS AND WELCOME INFORMATION PRIOR TO ARRIVAL - RULES AND CHECK OUT TIME AND PROCEDURES ARE POSTED IN HOUSE. ABOUT PLUM ISLAND. Plum Island is an 11 mile long barrier island just off the shore of Newburyport, Mass. The island faces the Atlantic Ocean and is separated from the mainland by a causeway that crosses spectacular tidal marshes and the Parker and Merrimac Rivers. Most of Plum Island is part of the 4,600 acre Parker River Wildlife Refuge. The remaining part, the northern end of the island is populated with an eclectic mix of cottages, 'architectural mistakes' and trophy homes that truly make it movie set worthy! Just steps away from any home is the beach, ten gorgeous, pristine, unspoiled miles of it. The sunrises, the sunsets, and the stargazing are stunning. Plum Island has one small, very luxurious beach front hotel, a handful of shops and 3 restaurants, all within walking distance from the cottage. The historic town of Newburyport is the quintessential New England town with a very sophisticated selection of shops, restaurants, galleries and theaters. Day trips abound, as does anything else you would want to do; golf, tennis, boating, kayaking, whale watching, horseback riding, yoga, spas and spa treatments, antiquing, outlet shopping etc. Legend says that Plum Island is a one of a very few Native American sacred sites in North American for healing. We absolutely loved our stay here for Christmas! The house is extremely comfortable and met all of our needs. The location is excellent. Eleanor was a wonderful host. We would definitely stay here again. We all want to come back for cocktails on the top deck in warmer weather!

We had a great short visit for three nights to this quaint cottage by the ocean. Beach access was very close by. The place is immaculately appointed, very comfortable for two couples. Clean and bright interior with all the necessary appliances. The sunrises were phenomenal.

The cottage was just a pictured but so much better in person. Cozy and comfortable with everything we needed for our stay. The location was perfect for our day excursions. The beach was very close for morning walks. Would highly recommend.

The cottage was perfect. Had everything anyone would need, and location couldn’t be better. Eleanor was great. We were scheduled to arrive on the day of a tropical storm, and she kept me informed about conditions on the island.
Luckily the storm didn’t cause problems….. just very big waves, and a beautiful sunset.

The house was perfect for a family stay on Plum and even with the rainy weather we were able to be outside on the covered porch and see the ocean. We loved the cottage’s proximity to the beach and max Martha’s, so when there was a wait we could just wait at the house. Eleanor was helpful and a great host!

This cute cottage was perfect for our weekend getaway. We took early morning walks and then soaked up the warm sunshine watching the waves as we sat with our books on the beach in the afternoons. The cottage was very clean, had great decor and everything we needed. We loved the back patio where we sat outside enjoying the lilacs and birdsong. The upper deck provided wonderful views of the water and sunsets. Neighbors are close but everyone is very friendly. We had a delicious breakfast at Mad Martha’s which is a one block walk. We will definitely return to this property for another visit.

We love the Plum Island area and visit often. This is an amazing spot with everything we needed, it is a welcoming space and really feels like a home. The beach is steps away and easy to get to. The upstairs space is very special, great sunrises each morning (without getting out of bed) and space to relax outside that can be accessed from the bedroom or a staircase from the first level. The host was great, we really look forward to coming back.

The peace and serenity of plum island off season was just what we were looking for yet close to Newburyport's charming downtown.
The cottage exceeded our expectations. We loved all the art on the walls, the adorable upstairs, the cozy living room and quick walk to watch the sun rise and set on the beach.
Having all the amenities right there was wonderful! Eleanor was great to communicate with. The property was spotless. I hope we can visit again!

We loved staying in the Cottage by the Sea on Plum Island in the winter! So peaceful! The house was clean, comfortable, and close to lovely walks in the National Park as well as amenities in town. We went to the beach several times also, just across the street! We would never have done a day trip mid winter to Plum Island, but now I'm so glad we were there in the blustery, snowy weekend we were. We loved the fireplace and spent every evening in front of it. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking. And a hot bath at the end of the night added to the cozy ambiance. Eleanor was accessible and helpful. We appreciated her love of the Island and her home reflected that. Thank you for opening your home so that the borders of our home are broader.

This is our third year at Eleanor’s charming house and we had a lovely time again. Love the partially covered deck with which to view the sunrise over the ocean with coffee and sunset over the bay with a cocktail. The great town of Newburyport only a 10 minute drive.

The house was pristine and beautifully decorated. It felt like visiting a friend with amazing taste. The upstairs deck was amazing with the bay out the back and the ocean out the front. I could have spent every day just there. I can’t wait to go back!

The pictures on this listing do not do it justice! This house is fantastic - such good use of space. Every room and alcove provides a new spot to relax, both inside the house and outside on its various decks and roof top sitting area (the star of the house in my opinion). Well maintained hardwood floors, lots of sunlight, comfortable beds, and a great kitchen made this spot perfect for us. It's a short walk to the beach (5 min tops from door to sitting on your beach chair) but you do need to walk down the sidewalk a bit, and then cross the road to get to the closest beach access path. Our only (very minor) issue with the house was the lack of curtains or black out blinds in top floor bedroom. Even with blinds, that morning sun is *bright* ! Not a big deal at all - solved by a sleep mask. Speaking of the top floor bedroom - it has a door leading to the previously mentioned rooftop area with great ocean views, some comfortable deck furniture, and relaxing fresh air and breeze. I really can't say enough good things about this house. It's comfortable, well decorated, in a great location (easy access to cafes, provisions, and the access road) and the owner is very responsive and helpful. I'd definitely stay here again the next time we're in Plum Island.

Eleanor’s cottage is gorgeous. Perfect for my husband and me and our college aged son. Both bedrooms were perfect. The location is perfect and many nights we drifted off with the sound of the waves. We cooked a few dinners in the kitchen which was nicely stocked.
Great home base for exploring the area. Plum Island was a 45 minute drive from Boston. We drove to Crane Castle and Newburyport and Gloucester. We also took a day trip to Portsmouth in NH. Tendercrop farm has excellent produce and meats. We took a fishing trip with Codfather Charters and caught lots of flounder. Captain Drago was awesome.
My son loved it so much he wants to come back yearly. Don’t hesitate to book this beautiful beach cottage.

This cottage made for a lovely winter break getaway. Plum island is a beautiful setting, even during a snowstorm and the cottage is drop dead gorgeous. The host is very responsive and communication is great. I would not hesitate to recommend this cottage to others nor to stay there again sometime!

We have stayed in Eleanor's cottage on and off for over ten years, and it continues to be a remarkable place. The beauty and functionality, the architectural interest, the sense of intelligent comfort, all rival the best luxury hotels - we can only compare it to The Shutters in Santa Monica. And right across the street from the beach! Well worth a stay any time of the year.
