About this house rental

This large and gracious home is one of a kind: large enough to comfortably accommodate an extended family, family reunion, or retreats and small conferences with 9 bedrooms, 3 half baths and 4 full baths. It is a beautiful property with a private beach, breathtaking views, gracious rooms and furnishings, and lots of amenities. We have decided to make Omena House available to share with other families for special get together. A few summer weeks are still available. Omena House is a delightful venue in all four seasons. The two fireplaces and outdoor firepits promise to ease the Autumn chill for trips to enjoy fall color and winter snow play. Village and Regional Charm Located in the charming village of Omena, “the bend at the first knuckle of the little finger” of Michigan’s Leelanau peninsula between Northport and Suttons Bay, this spacious and well appointed house is situated directly overlooking Omena and Grand Traverse Bays, with a secluded private beach. Enjoy wonderful days filled with sun, swimming, boating, beachcombing for Petoskey stones, bicycling or hiking on the many back roads and dedicated trails, and spending quality time with your family and friends. From the house you will experience shimmering sunrises over the water and woods each morning and sublime evenings. When you look up you can count stars and see the Milky Way. Within easy reach are the attractions that define the very best “up north” experience: Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore, charter fishing, casinos, excellent restaurants and bakeries (from pub fare to Zagat rated delights like Bleu and Martha’s Table). There are historical and cultural amenities including Interlochen Center for the Arts, amazing natural and human history, including the new tribal museum at Peshabestown, and several historic light houses and museums. And there are bounteous farmers markets, 20 wineries and cideries in Leelanau county alone. The Traverse City area sports 5 microbreweries, several distilleries, and there’s a “u-pick” flower garden just down the road. You can walk to the quaint village of Omena and the Leelanau Cellars Winery and Tasting Room, gallery, general store, historical museum, post office, restaurant, and park with play equipment and wide sandy beach. The setting offers a sense of seclusion screened with trees and a vista onto protected conservancy woodlands and Omena Bay. Omena House This expansive 5,000 square foot home has bright and bold indoor spaces with large windows offering unobstructed views of the bay and conservancy lands. The home’s interior has been architect-updated with comfortable furnishings, colorful artwork, and two fireplaces. It features a convenient laundry room off the main kitchen. The large living room with it’s stone fireplace offers a perfect place to relax with a piano, large flatscreen TV, books and games for all ages. The dining room faces the bay with tall window walls on three sides, and seats up to 20. The large kitchen includes 2 dishwashers and stone countertops, providing ample space for all the family to come together and create gourmet meals. It is fully equipped to allow a caterer to serve special occasions as well. The large adjoining deck includes a convenient gas grill, built in seating surrounding a sheltering old maple tree. There is a large glassed-in sun porch with white wicker furniture, paddle fans and a fabulous vista overlooking Omena Bay. With 9 bedrooms, 3 half and 4 full baths, it sleeps up to 22 people, perfect for a large or extended family. All the bedrooms are spacious with ample closets, and feature new mattresses. The first floor has 7 bedrooms with lovely views of the bay or woods. The second floor has a large and dramatic suite perfect to retreat from the bustle of activities downstairs and features a two compartment bath, Jacuzzi tub and dramatic window wall looking out at the treetops. There is a fully equipped galley kitchen, unique crows nest den with comfortable club chairs, balcony, private study, and spacious sitting room with a dramatic European fireplace, all overlooking Omena Bay. The master bedroom is unusually spacious with ample closets, king and full beds. The large second bedroom has a king and two twin beds bunked. The beach opens onto beautiful Omena Bay. The sandy cove of Omena Bay is inviting, with calm protected waters for swimming. In the evening enjoy the colors of the sunset and gather around a beach fire (there is a stone fire pit and seating on the beach.) Or, if you prefer, walk down the road to the nautical themed “Knot Just a Bar” restaurant, and enjoy a gourmet dinner outdoors watching the sun set and the moon rise. Omena offers a quaint country store with gourmet items and beer, wine and alcohol. The fantastic “up north” experience does not end with summer. Enjoy spectacular foliage, hiking, biking, and winery tours while making this beautiful house your home base at off season rates. The fireplaces and fire pit offer a warm glow for crisp cool weather occasions. Also close by are cross country and downhill skiing to entice your winter fancy.. Keywords: House, Private Beach

We had a women’s wine weekend and needed a place with enough beds for everyone. This house fit the bill. The house was exactly as pictured and everyone couldn’t stop saying how perfect the house was. I wouldn’t hesitate to book this house again!

This was our fifth time to stay in the Omena House. We love the size and comfort of the house - feels like our home away from home. Twelve of us stayed this year, but we have had as many as 14. It is our favorite gathering place for college friends/sorority sisters - we have been close for 60 years. Oh my!

We gathered at Omena house for a family reunion. It has been difficult to find a place to house all of us where we can stay together and only for a couple nights. Who wants to stay with your extended family for a week…. 😉 The home was clean. There was plenty of space for everyone. Having two kitchens was so helpful. The yard was awesome for yard games and kids to run around. The beach was a quick walk from the house and beautiful. Everything we could have needed was in the house (the Coffee pot could be a little larger, but that was the only complaint!) Thank you for allowing us to stay. It was wonderful!!

The property is perfect for a large family gathering. Lots of room inside and out. Very nice and clean. Extremely well stocked. The fire pit was a bonus. You just need to bring a bathing suit and a few cloths. Our family loved it and wants to go back.

Great! We are already planning to be there next year. The amount of bedrooms, bathrooms, and other areas fit our family needs. Because we had some cooler/rainy days the fireplace was especially a plus. The amount of games, puzzles, and books was appreciated. The kitchen had several amenities that made meal prep easier. The outdoor deck was great for our larger family. The view from the upstairs was better in person than any photo could do it justice. The only minor cleanliness issue (why we rated 4/5) was perhaps more attention needed on vacuuming/ sweeping. Overall we really enjoyed our week at the Omena House and are looking forward to making more memories there next year!

The house was perfect, clean and plenty of room. Easy walk to the water with chairs waiting to enjoy the view. Communication with Elizabeth and Rink was great. The visit was really nice. The whole family couldn’t have been happier! Thanks.

Omena House was exactly as described. Plenty of large areas for all to gather for eating and socializing. Our large family told stories and laughed a lot! The littles even found a Petosky stone at the beach access. Our wedding was in Northport. This was the perfect distance for the whole family to be together and close to the action. Bedrooms on the lower level all had names on the doors: joy, peace, love, etc. If these names were associated with the bedrooms in the listing, it would have helped us as we assigned rooms for this large group. Just a suggestion! We all loved Omena House and would definitely stay again if in the area. Thank you!
