About this house rental
Located in Truckee, this charming house for $180 per night is a great choice for your next vacation. Welcome to Hale Mauka, our "home in the mountains". Our three bedroom, two bath house is truly our second home in Tahoe Donner. We are proud to be able to share it with you throughout the year. Hale Mauka can comfortably sleep eight guests. A downstairs master suite with a 42in TV is down the hall from the full kitchen. Upstairs, the 'kid's room' contains two sets of bunk beds and a pair of fat boy bean bag stools for lounging. The other upstairs room has a 42in TV and queen bed. A full living room and dining room combine to give lots of room for families to stretch out and relax after a full day enjoying the Tahoe surroundings. There is a wood stove in the living room that can heat the entire home; baseboard heaters and humidifiers are also in each room to further control the temperature. Don't want to totally unplug while you're away? No worries -- high speed internet is included along with free WiFi for guests. Three LCD Smart TVs (55in in the living room, 42in in two bedrooms) have built-in Netflix/Hulu/Amazon Prime connections so you can stream videos to your heart's content. The living room TV also includes an HD cable feed so you can watch the major sports games in real time. A Mac Mini is in the loft along with an Airprint-capable printer, so you can surf the web or even get some work done if needed. Located on Alder Creek Road, it is one of the first thoroughfares in Tahoe Donner to get plowed, providing clear access to your snow sport destinations. The Tahoe Donner Downhill ski area is 5 minutes away, as is the Alder Creek Adventure (Cross Country/Equestrian) Center. An easy jaunt down 89 takes you to Northstar, Squaw and other Tahoe destinations. Great views of Alder Creek can be seen from the front deck. The rear deck leads to a wonderful backyard play area where kids can go downhill with the provided sleds or just roll around in the snow. You can even play horseshoes in the horseshoe pitch in the front yard. The kitchen is fully equipped with cookware, utensils, and dinnerware. There is also a full size washer and dryer so you can pack lightly. Guests (for a nominal fee) have access to all Tahoe Donner amenities, including downhill and cross country skiing, snow play, equestrian center, mountain biking, orienteering (geocaching), tennis courts, pools, Trout Creek Recreation Center, and Tahoe Donner Golf Course. High thread-count sheets, down comforters and memory foam mattresses on all beds, along with soft towels ensure that you can relax in luxury after a full day of fun. We absolutely loved our stay in Hale Mauka! The cabin is roomy but cozy, beautifully decorated, and with extremely comfortable beds. The highlight for us, though, was the backyard. We have gone to the Tahoe Donner area for several years now to play in the snow with our children and grandchildren. The sledding in the backyard was the best of any place we’ve been!! Amazing! As was the space for building snow forts and snowmen and having friendly snowball fights. We have already reserved for next year and can’t wait to go back. 5 stars!!!

Great location with less than 5 minutes drive to downhill and cross country ski areas. This is a very complicated and high maintenance house. There are two stair cases to reach the front door (which you have to use at least two times a day to carry all your equipment and kids). Physically it’s very demanding to carry the logs to maintain the stove that heats the house. It seems that some of the items may have met their time limit during our stay - washer, hairdryer, tea kettle, front door lock. Although we’ve got help to fix those things, you don’t want to spend your vacation dealing with issues every day. If you’re coming in the winter, make sure you know how to operate wood stove.

Selected this property for the snow play for young children right outside. Comfortable accomodations for 5 adults and 2 children. Older property, but in good condition and clean. Good communication with homeowner. Fun time!

This is our 3rd time coming and we could not believe all the snow. We had a blast in the backyard and used the guest passes for skiing at Tahoe Donner, which was kid friendly.
The house has everything you need and more. Ed is easy to communicate with and very accommodating.
We are looking forward to next year. (Or Maybe late Spring with all this snow)

I stayed at this property during a huge snow storm and it worked out well. The driveway and roads are plowed daily. The pathway was mostly shoveled and the cabin stayed warm with the baseboard heaters and wood stove. The neighborhood is very quiet and it’s close enough to several restaurants that you can still eat out with snowy roads. The downside is you park at the bottom and have to carry everything upstairs and the wood stove needs a new door seal. The upside is very clean, comfortable couches, big TVs, great location and very nice and responsive owners.

The hem of the curtains in downstairs bedroom is hanging loose and needs repair.
The property is in need of the following main repairs for safety;

A lovely stay!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The space was super kid friendly- our girls loved the bunk beds, puzzles and board games, and even tried out the PlayStation. The kitchen was very well outfitted, and we enjoyed many yummy meals. An easy, convenient location— we also loved the creek across the street!

Cozy Cabin
We had a great stay. The property was perfect. Clean and cozy cabin. The bunk bed room was a hit with our kids. There are a ton of games for the kids and family to play with. The kids also enjoyed sledding in the back of the property. Also, the individual towels setup on each of the beds was a very nice touch. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and look forward to staying here again.

Awesome sledding weekend!
We had a perfect weekend at Ed and Bernadette's cabin. There was just enough room for our two families (family of 3 plus a family of 4) and everything we needed was close at hand. We prepared all of our meals in the well-stocked kitchen, stayed cozy warm with the supplied firewood, and spent HOURS cruising the great sledding run in the backyard. Our boys couldn't get enough, and the grownups put in plenty of runs, as well. Ed and Bernadette were thoughtful and quick with their responses, and the instructions sent in advance were super clear. It was a perfect sledding adventure. One note for families traveling with kids of different ages and sleep cycles - sound travels through the house and all the bedrooms, so once one person is up, the rest will soon follow!

The kitchen has limited counter space but we were able to make dinners every night. The living room was the perfect place to hang out after a full day of skiing; we would build a fire and relax on the cozy leather couches! I would definitely rent this cabin again.

This house worked well for our family's needs. We had plenty of space and the house is in a great location and close to the Tahoe Donner amenities. We used the tennis courts, main pool, and equestrian center. It was so nice to have these activities as options. The kitchen is small, but well stocked with quality cookware. Many essential items were stocked which was a welcome surprise (lots of toilet paper, paper towels, sponges, dish soap, laundry detergent). The inside of the house is a bit of an older feel, but it's cozy. It did get a bit hot in the house during the day (no air conditioning) but we weren't home much, so that was okay. There was a nice breeze in the evenings, so opening the windows helped. There are a good amount of stairs to enter the property. It was fine in the summer for our family, but something to be aware of. Our car did not fit in the garage with the car top carrier on, but we parked in the driveway and that was fine. Overall, solid house and we would stay again. The owners are AMAZING and communication before, during, and after our stay was great. We had an issue with accidentally ordering something from Amazon after we left (yikes!) and the owners were quick to respond and help us resolve the problem.

Very nice location and great neighborhood. Place was clean. Had everything we needed for our trip. Loved the all the windows and enjoyed the large backyard; saw many deers run past.
