Grandma's Spectacular Beach Cottage
About this house rental
Nestled in Mendocino County, this lovely house for $250 per night is a great choice for your next vacation. Perched on a bluff at the edge of the Pacific Ocean, Grandma’s Beach Cottage offers unobstructed white water views that cannot be improved upon. She sure knew how to pick em’ - this house could not be better placed! It is one of only three homes located inside the private gated entrance to Irish Beach’s exclusive beach access and looks right down the beach to the western most point of the lower 48 – the Point Arena Lighthouse. Grandma was very unpretentious and so is her house; she built the first home in Irish Beach with 3 bedrooms, 1 full bathroom, constructed of solid core redwood (no paneling here!) with lots of windows to soak up the view and a fully equipped kitchen. Grandma didn’t want us kids sitting around a TV when there was exploring to be done outside, nor was she going to be inside doing laundry. You will not find a TV or laundry facility in this house! She didn’t really know how to use a computer, but yes our house is equipped with wifi. I think Grandma must have been a romantic, because her house sure puts you in the mood. With a glass of wine in front of the fire and the constant sound of the crashing waves, honey by my side, well... I just can’t think of anything better! If you love long walks on the beach, and natures wondrous scenery I think you too will love Grandma’s Beach Cottage. Please note that you will need to bring your own bed sheets and towels. Oh my goodness. This place is as good as all the other reviews say, and then some. We travelled all the way from Ohio bc I was obsessed with this listing, and it did not disappoint. Such a cozy, welcoming home that has everything you need. Our 14 and 11 year old had a great first experience with the Pacific, playing on the beach all day, exploring tide pools. And plenty of wifi to be on their tech at night. We also managed to tear ourselves away for a day and visit some redwood groves (Montgomery Woods is worth the drive!). Some great places to eat close by, and some more that I want to come back and try. Definitely get sandwiches at the store in Elk and have a picnic lunch at the park across the street!

Your communication was always so nice and helpful, and we appreciate all the time you spent making sure our stay was safe and pleasant, even when the weather wouldn’t cooperate! I hope to be back someday, if just to sit on the porch and drink coffee and listen to the roar of the surf. As my son described it, “this place is powerful and peaceful”. ❤️

Our stay was nothing short of magical. The moment we arrived all the stresses of daily life was washed out sea with the sound of the waves. Stunning views everywhere you look. We loved watching all the birds fly in and out of the tree by the bench. The morning we left we were even listed by a deer! We can't wait to come back.

Had a wonderful time this is a great place to stay. Very relaxing. We only had one issue which is we have a big 2001 suburban and it was tough to navigate the driveway and the way down to the beach. With that being said, we will be back!

Just about perfect in every way - proximity to the beach( 5 minute walk down steep hill but you can drive if you want), breathtaking views, and very comfortable accommodations.

We will definitely be back. Four days of unplugging and enjoying beachfront views. Absolutely perfect. Small surrounding towns with early closing hours and some places totally closed Mondays and Tuesdays so recommend arriving before 7pm to stock up on supplies or just bring in food. We loved cooking our meals at the cottage (fully stocked kitchen). The views and practically private beach really make it hard to even leave and explore nearby areas.

My wife and I are from the middle of Pennsylvania. Neither of us have ever seen the northern California coast. I was tasked with the details of an October vacation my wife had scheduled off from work. I looked all over the world actually. Patagonia was actually the first place I researched. Somehow I was drawn to northern California and began pouring over VRBO properties where I thought I may like to visit, learning as much as I could about the areas while I looked. I eventually came across Grandma's Beach cottage and knew we had to stay there, even if somehow, it's pictures were half as much as it looked like. I also read every review and noticed that the owner responded to every one. My wife and I flew into San Francisco and stayed in the redwoods near Guerneville for a couple of nights until we could start our stay at the cottage. We drove to the coast at the mouth of the Russian River at Jenner and drove up the coast to Manchester. We stopped in Gualala and had a bite to eat at the most amazing bar and restaurant with the ocean over our shoulders. And when we finally made it to the cottage just before dusk, we were floored, dazzled, amazed, spun around, whatever you like, it is stunning. We could not even believe our view and of course how perfect the cottage is itself. The panoramic floor to ceiling windows are amazing, inside or out, all you see is ocean. Maybe if your are already from California could you get used to this kind of view. I grew up 6 hours from the closest beach and it's awful. We made sure we had enough provisions and didn't leave the property for a couple of days. The wrap around deck is where we spent most of out time mesmerized by the sea, and the hawks, and the deer, and the people on horses. I could write about our trip forever. Explore the coast north or south, dip into the redwood forests, drive to Anderson Valley for wineries or to Fort Bragg for a train ride. We both fell in love and are currently figuring out how to live in that area permanently. Its that good. Go!

We all had such a fantastic time. The house was in a perfect location, all of the windows had breathtaking views. The beds were extremely comfortable and everything was in good working order. The beach in mid-august was fairly unpopulated, so we always felt like it was our own private beach. The waves are amazing and the water was a really good temperature, not too warm not too cold. The people that we did meet on the beach were so very friendly.

This property is an ideal location that makes you feel as if you are floating in the clouds above a gorgeous beach. Easy access to the beach; Port Arena Lighthouse and a short distance to Fort Bragg.
Sleeping to the sound of the ocean and being awakened by the sounds of birds, ocean waves and wildlife. What a wonderful combination of treehouse, beach house and home away from home.

We had a lovely time at the beach house. You have a wonderful view of the ocean and have access to a beautiful beach. We created many wonderful memories with our family. It was nice to get away from technology as well. Definitely would go back.

All I can say is location, location, location! This quaint cabin has amazing views of Irish Beach and the beautiful Pacific ocean. It had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. It did not hurt that we had perfect sunny warm weather as well.
