About this house rental
Located in Wellfleet, this charming house for $425 per night is a great option for your next break. This lovely in-town historic 1830 Cape-- a bookstore in a former life-- is located adjacent to shops and restaurants of Wellfleet, and less than a mile to Harbor and Bay beaches. The house has been thoroughly renovated, while respecting it's funky, antique spirit. The home is also winterized, and very cozy in all seasons. I ask guests to air out home with open windows and fans/ leave home in good order, so my maids can focus on a thorough scrubbing between guests. I hope to keep my home as safe and clean as possible, an oasis where my guests can relax. You will love parking the car and strolling everywhere-- the grocery store, the produce stand, the farmer's market, the library, the flower shop, the ice cream parlor, and all the shops and galleries of Wellfleet's town center. A formal front entryway leads to a huge, sunny double living room, featuring a wood-burning stove, an old hi-fi with many classical and world music albums, and a smart TV. The living room leads to a semi-open formal dining room beyond, which in turn opens to the renovated kitchen-- fully equipped for serious cooks. Both the kitchen and formal dining room have doors leading out to a gorgeous wrap-around deck and secluded garden full of flowers, herbs, and vegetables. A brand new outdoor shower & clawfoot tub c. 2020! Enjoy picking fresh herbs and greens for dinner from the garden. Propane grill and charcoal grill provided. Also on the first floor, there is a twin bedroom with full bath (shower) and a stackable washer/dryer in the closet. The second floor has one CA King and one Queen bedroom, CA King in primary BR overlooking the nature preserve across the street, and Queen overlooking the rear garden. Off the shared landing is a second full bathroom with tub. On the third floor is a large attic bedroom with a Queen bed and its own smart TV-- great for kids. Note: the stairs here are *very* steep-- and nearly ladder-like between second and third floors. Both the living room and third floor bedroom have smart TV's. Bring your Hulu or Amazon (or other) account. Free internet access provided. Parking for 3 cars. Maximum of 6 guests please. Normally Saturday arrivals/departures during summer months.

We had a peaceful and restorative stay at the Bookstore!
The house was very comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped and functional. The beautiful flower and vegetable garden was an unexpected- and delightful-surprise! Communication with the owner was always very prompt and clear. Walking access to the town of Wellfleet was a great advantage and be sure to try the delicious gelato at Gelato Joy- just a few doors down!

I’m hesitant to submit this review because we want to come back and don’t want Laura’s place to be booked!! We’ve been staying in Wellfleet for a week or two in the summer for almost 10 years and we’ve never stayed anywhere as lovely as this house. The location is fantastic, and the house is a wonderful mix of old charm and modern comfort. It feels like a place someone truly loves and looks after! Best of all the beds were so comfortable, especially after a long day in the sun! I agree with other reviewers that the stairs are steep, but we didn’t find it to be a problem (folks with mobility issues likely would have trouble). We were there with our 10 month old son who’s walking and climbing, and we found it pretty easy to just close the doors to the stair areas. Laura was also a gem as a host - extremely responsive and kind. Overall highly recommended!

Very lovely spot to enjoy a quiet few days on the Cape in fabulous Wellfleet. Beautiful home, great kitchen and an herb garden, wonderful reading lights and even couch throws! Our kind of place. Just to note: the stairs are seriously steep, the very old or very young would need assistance!

The house is located walking distance from downtown Wellfleet. It has tons of character and charm with lovely nooks and crannies throughout. The house has been well used and had some odd ways about it because of its age and needed some updates. The backyard is gorgeous and was wonderful to hangout in.

Charming, authentic cape cod cottage
We enjoyed a week exploring Wellfleet and the rest of Cape Cod from this spacious well-equipped cottage. We appreciated the proximity to the Wellfleet shops and restaurants. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking at home and entertaining. So many charming touches throughout this well loved home.

Such a cute, well appointed cottage close to all downtown Wellfleet amenities. We had everything we needed for a lovely stay. We were there for a wedding at the Preservation Hall. It was great to be so close in a cozy cottage. Owner communicates extremely well and is quick to answer all questions. Highly recommend.

Love this place
A great choice for us, full of charm and character, so pleasant. A perfect location to set out to parts of cape including 3 nearby surf beaches and also to walk the storybook village for supplies including the amazing seafood we prepared each night hanging out at the house. We all loved it. Hard to climb up to upper floors but for us that was part of the charm. Great garden, many nice surprises with this house.

Perfect winter respite in Wellfleet
Laura’s house provided the perfect place for a two week get-a-way to a safe and quiet place in the time if Covid 19. The house is cozy and comfortable. Lovingly furnished with good light and lots of places to settle in and take advantage of the fantastic collection of books. The kitchen was well equipped and fun to cook in. It was great to be in the center of town within walking distance of both shops and the beach. Laura was was available and responsive to any questions we had or help we needed.

location is fantastic, the house literally in the village of wellfleet, we walk to restaurants, cafés and marketplace. House is very comfortable and tastefully decorated. Everything is easy to access. We had a great time and will definitely come again.

Lovely village home in Wellfleet
The house is a delightful old Cape house in the main part of the town, close enough to walk to shops. but not right in the center. It is homey - reflecting the owner's eclectic tastes - yet well set up for guests with everything one could need for a comfortable stay. The owner is sensitive to Covid precautions and allowed extra days between visitors to ensure safety.. There are beautiful beach and wildlife walks all over the area in a surprising amount of conservation land. I suspect that the town is lively in the summer months, but it was perfect in the autumn. We had a wonderful two weeks and would definitely go back.

Fabulous location and charming house
We had a wonderful week staying at Laura’s home. The house was clean, check-in was easy and the old bookstore was charming and quirky in the best way! For us the location was perfect - easy walk to restaurants, ice cream, grocery, etc. I will echo other reviewers that the back stairs/attic stairs are narrow and steep so could be a concern for folks with small children or mobility issues. For us - kids are 9 and 12 - the stairs weren’t an issue and the kids really enjoyed the cool attic space with the TV.

Utterly Charming Home in Wellfleet
This house is a former bookstore with a fascinating history of its own. It is stunningly restored and kept up by the owner. It is located just off the center of the town -- so it is easy to walk to shops and restaurants. If you love books, love to be in an historic house in a Cape Cod town, with the sea nearby, it is difficult to imagine anything better. The owner is a great landlord.

Lovely July 4 Week
We had an amazing week at the Bookstore Cottage relaxing and spending time together. The house is extremely charming and has plenty of indoor and outdoor space for hanging out. We enjoyed the well-stocked kitchen and grill, as well as the close proximity to town for our last-minute shopping needs. A wonderful getaway!
