The beds were comfy and the seating area in the room was perfect. The bathroom was amazing and very clean. The towels were clean, fluffy and big enough. The shower was fantastic as were the complimentary toiletries.
The view out of the room window was a brick wall.
The breakfast was plentiful but we could have done with a bit more toast. One of our poached eggs was not cooked in the middle. We were asked, after our plates were taken away, if we'd like anything else. This would have been better asked during the breakfast and not after. Orange juice was lovely, as was the coffee.

Fabulous location, quiet yet right in the heart of things. Comfortable bed, nice hot shower, loads of space (too much really - I booked late and the only room available was a family room!). Extensive, tasty and very generous breakfast menu - no need for lunch! Staff very friendly and helpful. Also really liked the way the hotel supports independent and local businesses eg the coffee, locally-baked flapjack bites in the room, diffuser fragrance from the shop next door (and a discount if you shop there).
Would be great if they could extend the support for local products to cover tea (and include herbal and decaff teas - the only option in the room was standard Twinings Breakfast Tea). Likewise the toiletries - there must be some lovely local products that could be used instead of big bland brand Elemis. Would also have appreciated a more comfortable/relaxing armchair or sofa rather than upright chairs. Other than that, hard to fault!

In the town house which is in a great location but a little way from the hotel. Spacious room. Nice shower room. Excellent breakfasts and dinner in the restaurant were lovely.
The steep steps in the property which we were not advised of - a little precarious. In the basement, so dark. Emergency exit was through an old glass door (key housed on the wall) to a grim basement area outside. Luckily, not needed!

The Crown is in the centre of Stamford so very convenient. There is a car park at the rear in which we managed to find a space on both days. Our shower was very good and I liked the Elemis toiletries. Breakfast, which is all table service, was also good and the portions generous.
I paid extra for a room with a king-size bed but was extremely disappointed to find that we were in the basement with no window, only a curtained door onto an area with a stone staircase up to the street. Furthermore the stairs down from the hall to the room and those from the bedroom to the bathroom were steep and awkward. The room was cold, so, even though it was warm outside, I had to turn the heating on in the bedroom and the towel rail in the bathroom to maximum. At night I was cold and had to ask for extra blankets in order to be comfortable. The selection of tea and coffee in the room was basic and there were no extra, thoughtful touches in the bathroom (things like flannels, cotton wool balls, shower caps etc). The staff in general were polite but rather brusque. I thought the room was very poor value for money.
