Cool hotel, some aspects looked dated but plenty of unique high quality finishes. It must be a challange to maintain a high standard with futuristic themed architecture

The staff were kind and attentive when checking in and out. I really appreciated being given a bottle of water while queuing for check-in on a very hot day after walking across town for 40 mins to reach the hotel. The bar and restaurant staff were also lovely. Breakfast was decent and organised. It seemed to be generally quiet and was very clean.
Sorry to say that apart from the staff and the arty parts, this didn't feel much like a 5-star hotel. We stayed in a deluxe room on the Norman Foster floor and the room was not much different from a standard nice hotel room. I was a bit disappointed upon opening the door, as we had chosen this hotel to stay in one of the unusual bedrooms. It was also pretty impractical in a number of ways. The aircon wasn't working properly, although to be fair, it was sorted promptly. The wifi just didn't work at all. The lighting was pretty hard to work out, and several lights turned off and on randomly. The wardrobe was hidden behind two really heavy doors that you had to pull and slide with force, and would be pretty impossible for anyone with a physical impairment. Only one side of the bed had a plug socket. Little 5-star extras like a minibar (present but empty), slippers and a robe were missing. There was only one small towel rail inside (!) the shower area, nowhere to hang hand towels by the sinks (which are inside the bedroom itself), so I had to resort to hanging it on the back of one of the chairs in the room. The shower 'cubicle' was completely open to the room. And finally, and this may be personal preference - the toilet had frosted glass with what can only be described as a 'peephole' in the door, meaning that there was zero privacy in terms of sight and sound. I don't care how in love you are, or how long you have been a couple, I don't know many people who want to see or hear their partner on the toilet, or vice versa. Also, do be aware that it is by no means central to Madrid. Getting into town by public transport takes at least 30 minutes and likely to require changing metro trains. Very convenient for Barajas airport though, which is the tradeoff. Sadly I don't think the hotel was worth staying so far from the centre and all it has to offer.
