Exceptional

Always a lovely experience coming to The Angel. The decor and fittings are beautiful and the hotel always sees to those extra touches which make such a difference.

Breakfast can be slow and a little disorganised. Delicious when it comes but it takes a long time.

Hotel is over- relying on its location.

A centrally located hotel with very attractive outlook. Lovely, helpful staff. Very pleasant dinner. Parking service was excellent.

We were disappointed with the room. On the first floor, overlooking the abbey. The carpet and parts of the walls were stained. The shower head didn’t work at all well. Hotel refunded wine at dinner for inconvenience. Pictures on the wall were squint. The room had an unloved air about it. We paid a lot for this room. It wasn’t worth it. Even a coat of paint would have transformed it.

Adequate but not the more luxurious room I was expecting.

Great location - reception and bar and breakfast areas looked great. Given a disabled room access room downstairs which didn’t look like any of the rooms in the photos and definitely not worth the £216 I paid. I didn’t ask for this.

There was always a queue for reception- I may have appeared at busy times. The parking was full but fortunately was free outside at the times I needed. Staff quite clinical.

A beautiful hotel, I will certainly stay here again.

The Room was lovely (deluxe double), staff very friendly and helpful. And the food was delicious. The hotel is easy to find in the centre of Bury St Edmunds.

A thoroughly enjoyable stay in the centre of a lovely town. Everyone was truly welcoming.

Excellent welcome as we booked in. The car was parked for us, all very convivial. Breakfast the next morning was superb, all freshly cooked.

I enjoyed my stay and can recommend it to others. The breakfast is outstanding.

The decor of the hotel and room is beautiful, with a comfortable bed and nice toiletries. The staff is amazing. The hotel porter even de-iced my car's windscreen in the morning. Top service! Outstanding breakfast and the bar is open until 4 am (if you are a guest).

Wi-Fi was dropping at times.

Room expensive for what it was. Dog crying constantly next door. Shower very poor and temperature constantly fluctuated. Bed uncomfortable.

Slightly dated but good overall.

Location excellent, staff helpful and friendly. Room large and well furnished.

Heating not on in room prior to arrival and didn’t work in bathroom at all. Cafetière with one sachet of caffeinated coffee rather 1970’s.

Really disappointed.

Breakfast was sub par; had avocado on toast and the toast was burnt and the avocado wasn’t ripe and hard! Left most of it but they took it off my bill.

I requested the hotel room be decorated for my partners 30th and posted up the decorations. This was never done with no explanation or apology, never received the decorations back. The room was dusty could see it on the furniture and the bathroom was tiny had mould on the walls. Couldn’t turn the tap on fully as it had been fitted too close to the sink! A really disappointing stay for the price we paid for a special occasion.

Great hotel for a family weekend break

Hotel is right in the centre, opposite the Abbey. The hotel has had a refurb on the ground floor and the restaurant and bar ares and lounge areas are very nice. The rooms are good although ours was looking out over the air conditioning units and the kitchen so was very noisy and smelly

Better room would have helped.

Disappointing

The staff all work very hard and are friendly and polite.Downstairs the public rooms are comfortable, nicely decorated

The bedroom was a let down not up to a 4 star standard. Although the bed was comfortable the room was very noisy,jaded decor, paintwork peeling in the bathroom.I complained and they dealt with it promptly. Management seriously need to review the bedrooms and upgrade some.

Disappointing - not like last time in 2019

The restaurant was excellent. Booking was easy and the food was delicious. The porters were both lovely. Very friendly and helpful. Bed and bed linen were fantastic. Great sleep. Wifi was free.

Room 115 was dark and dingy. Painted institutional green with one tiny light. Felt like the worst room in the hotel. We booked two rooms for the same price and the other was large and bright. So were lots of other rooms that we walked past with open doors. We just drew a very short straw. I stayed there before and had a fantastic room. If the rooms can vary so drastically I would not risk it in future. There is no lift in the hotel and lots of stairs. My 80 year old mother struggled.

Not what we expected. It felt like style was more important than function.

We ate in the restaurant and the food was good.

We booked this hotel because it was on the Sustrans cycle route and near the Cathedral.. We were making a cycle tour of Suffolk using 2 modern e-bikes. Due to the value of the bikes we contacted the hotel before we arrived asking if they could provide secure storage for the bikes and we were assured that this could be be done. On arrival I asked about this and was informed someone would help. The only "secure" area turned out to be a post in the courtyard! Later we decided to move the bikes into our ground floor bedroom. When checking out I mentioned the storage issue and was told by the receptionist that "we don't really have anywhere special"! The bathroom was heated by an electric convector. It ran full-on all the time as the the thermostat was not working and the top of the control unit was missing with open access to the wiring and thus unsafe, There was no local isolator switch. Lighting in the bedroom was poor.
