The Abbey Hotel & Apartments

5-10 minute walk into the centre with all its history and attractions. Interesting old building; we stayed in a separate building - possibly a converted barn - in the courtyard. Very comfortable with a small kitchen. Stairs were steep, so not ideal for someone with mobility issues. Excellent breakfast with a wide choice, all freshly prepared. Helpful attentive staff. Small garden with chairs.

Everything.... lovely welcoming staff, had some interesting chats with Quinton about the area and the history behind the hotel which has been family run for many years. We were made to feel more than just a guest. We had a Classic Room (7) was perfect, clean and cosy. Facing the carpark...a little road noise, mostly in the morning so it wasn't an issue... even with me being a light sleeper it did not disturb us..Comfortable bed. Fans provided. love the idea of the little wall cupboard which houses crockery and the tea, coffee, biscuits, sugar etc. Lovely breakfast cooked to order, which lots of choices hot and cold. Guests have access to a comfy lounge, a downstairs spare bathroom with shower if for any reason they are unable to use their own...also a basement kitchen area with facilities to prepare your own meals if wanted..or have a takeaway......microwave, hot plate, fridge, tableware ,table and chairs provided. This is a very clever idea for guests who don't always want to eat out. There is a wall of book shelves in the reception area for guests use. They have thought of everything. 15 mins walk into town,so it's close enough to have access to shops and restaurants and far enough away from town traffic. The car park can get busy if the hotel is fully occupied. Would definately recommend and will return.

It was clean, the staff were nice, breakfast was good.

It’s quite dated

The room was spacious and very clean. Not much road noise even with the morning commuter traffic. Free off road parking. The gardens were lovely too.

Check in was very fractured, I was left not sure what was happening for several minutes. The building is old and smells musty, the room was very dated in its decor and there is no evening meal provision at this property. Town is a good 8 minute walk away although they did offer the option of having a take away delivered.
