Great central position (thank goodness for sat nav to get around the one way streets when driving) walking very straight forward from the centre of Bury. Clean and fresh bed linen; an additional heater in the bedroom - I visited in the middle of a very stormy weekend - all in all, perfectly comfortable.
It is a little tired and dated but I already knew that from the reviews. I wasn’t looking for an expensive ‘trendy’ overnight stay with farrow and ball paintwork.

The best thing was how accommodating the staff were, first about use of their small car park, and then about providing breakfast a little earlier than usual on Sunday morning to fit with our schedule. That really made all the difference.
The rooms and bathroom were clean on a superficial level, but felt like they could do with a really good deep clean. The radiator in my room didn't seem to work and the thermostat on the radiator itself was falling off.

Great location, friendly and attentive staff
Rooms are tired but good value anyway

The staff were exceptionally kind and helpful when I got lost in Bury St Edmund's abysmal one way system, and Sophia stayed on the phone to guide me in.
The bed was comfortable and the cooked breakfast cooked perfectly.
The housekeeper had failed to make the bed up, so although I was offered another room straight away, it was a twin bed instead of the double I'd booked.
The decor is old and tired, and the shower had mould in the runners.
The toilet bowl was dirty and brown and needed a good descaling and bleaching
No option of proper coffee, but even coffee bags would be a compromise.
There was no breakfast option other than a cooked one and would have liked to have been asked what d like or if I had any allergies.
