Baros Maldives

We only had one brief night at Baros, and somehow that was enough to know that we will return. In fact, I already know that Baros will be one of those rare places we come back to again and again. There are resorts that are visually stunning, and then there are places that have something much harder to create; soul. Baros has it in abundance. We had just come from another beautiful Maldivian resort, which was absolutely stunning visually. But Baros showed us the difference between a beautiful resort and somewhere that has a genuine sense of place. Baros has heritage, character and a feeling that is difficult to put into words. It leaves something with you when you leave, and I think that is something you simply cannot manufacture. The island itself is gorgeous. Lush, dense jungle vegetation, beautiful beaches and that classic Maldivian feeling. It is wonderfully small and intimate, and despite being a resort, we could barely see another soul. At times it genuinely felt like we had our own private castaway island. And then there is the barefoot aspect, which we absolutely loved. Shoes simply aren’t necessary. Walking barefoot through the sand and vegetation, surrounded by nature and with the ocean just steps away, gives Baros a wonderful connection to the island. It feels like stripped-back, pure Maldives luxury; not overdone, not pretentious, just incredibly beautiful. The service was excellent: warm, attentive and completely unpretentious. A special mention has to go to Salini, who looked after our every need. She was just a WhatsApp message away and regularly checked in to make sure we had everything we needed. Our stay was far too brief to remember everyone’s names, but Salini certainly made an impression. The food was exceptional. The breakfast buffet was genuinely one of the best we have experienced, with an excellent choice and quality. There is an a-la-carte option too. Our evening meal was completely five-star, both in terms of the food and the service.

There is one small drawback: on one side of the island you can see Malé. We would naturally prefer an uninterrupted ocean horizon, but honestly, please don’t let that put you off Baros. It is such a small part of the overall experience and does not take away from what makes this island so special. In fact, our only real regret is that we only had one night.

Loved that this is a natural island with natural vegetation, and is easily accessible from Male only a 25min speedboat away. We loved every minute on Baros Island. The staff were all so kind and helpful and offered great customer service. Especially Sujata (Suzy) and Keeth and Noyon. All the food was absolutely amazing, especially the buffet breakfast with fresh sashimi each day, and the Saturday night Asian buffet was top quality food with so many incredible choices. The house reef was great for snorkelling, and our over water pool villa was are very comfortable and private. We loved that it was traditional looking, however the outdoor deck area and all wooden decks and walls could do with a varnish to freshen up the look. We highly rate Baros Island and would recommend this resort to anyone looking for a romantic holiday. We would love to go back. 😍🙏

It is pretty expensive to stay here but pretty sure that goes for all the Maldives. The over water pool villas are very comfortable and traditional looking, however the outdoor deck area and all wooden decks and walls could do with a varnish to freshen up the look.
