Ideally located and immaculate

Location was convenient to walk to nearby temples and Kyoto Station and places in-between (e.g. AEON Mall). The rooms were spacious with comfy beds. Breakfast buffet and cleaning staff was very professional.
Communication was a bit problematic. Upon arrival, staff members were extremely defective in pointing us to the lounge where we could have coffee, tea and snacks. For almost 20 minutes they kept pointing us in different directions and even bringing us personally to wrong places (such as the high tea bar where we needed a reservation made 24 hrs in advance) while the complimentary lounge was located just besides the reception and could be opened with our room key. This ridiculous situation could have been avoided by front desk staff to just spend 20 seconds to show us physically where the lounge was (it was literally 10 steps away from the front desk but inconspicuous).

The hotel has a gorgeous lobby. The room was newly remodeled and very charming. The breakfast buffet was big and the food was good. People were friendly. As my wife caught a summer cold and did not want to venture out in the evening for dinner, it was very nice to have three restaurants on the premises. We ate at all three. I'd say the Japanese one was the best. The shuttle bus to Kyoto Station runs all day and it runs on time.
The neighborhood is located in a bit of a dead zone for night life, restaurants, etc. There are a few convenience stores within walking distance, however.
