Haka House Wellington

Room was clean, beds good. Warm.

Room was tiny, but think our issue as bags too big, so very tight fit. Needed Hook behind door to hang damp bath towels. Little noisy late at night from night club if windows open.

The location was superb - very near Cortney Place (where the buses drop off), Te Papa and the waterfront, and a selection of bars and restaurants. Try the Irish Bar one street along - great live music! And it's right next to New World too!

(we were in an en suite double room). We didn't realise that it didn't come with coffee/tea/milk. (there is a kettle and fridge). But a trip to New World for a pack of instant latte sorted that out!

Convenient location and affordable room options to suit budgets. Beds were comfortable and high-set so you could store luggage underneath. Friendly staff at check-in were great to deal with. Lots of charging ports at each bed (2x plugs, USB-C and USB).

Room definitely wasn’t the type of photo advertised (much smaller) but suited a solo traveller. Shower in communal bathroom was broken and unable to be raised above belly-button height. Would be great if there was a mirror in the room.

Was clean and close to where I needed to go.

Check in was a bit of a mission. When I booked on Booking.com, nothing was said of a bond. Why is that? To be told on arrival was a surprise, so had to use some of my weekend money. I was there from Auckland for a family 21st. Wasn’t impressed with it. Also, I booked a twin bed room for two for two nights and prepaid before arriving. I messaged them to inform them that my daughter was arriving before me as she had already booked an earlier flight, I had a later one. But they returned that we had to check in together assuming she was a toddler whereas she is 35. I stay in hotels regularly and have never heard of this arrangement. Nevertheless that was a letdown. Wasn’t impressed with that rule. If you paid before arriving and the other guest is an adult, what’s the problem? Not even overseas hotels have a dumb rule like that. This hotel is wacky! Checking in wasn’t great either. And it goes on. I told my daughter to try to check in. She called me reception wasn’t helpful and wouldn’t allow. So I informed Booking.com and changed the booking to her name before I arrived. That worked so she was able to check in but what a disastrous ordeal and muck around. A lot of time was wasted with their bad attitude. Totally unnecessary before our holiday. We hadn’t been to Wellington for a few years so guess this place gave us nothing to miss. And the finale, last night stayed with friends and got back an hour late for check out and was charged $25. 10am was the scheduled time but I checked out at 11am. First time this has happened during my many travels. Guess this place is desperate for money. No indication or discussion, just do it. A bit like this government in Wellington, no integrity. So all in all, this place is out of it and need to get better management. I wouldn’t have disputed the late fee but a heads up would’ve been nice. I won’t stay there again and will advise my friends and family. So I give this place a big fat ZERO !!! 😂😂😂👎🏼👎🏼
