Although this is a chambres d"hote the host is distinctly missing. When you arrive a very small plaque on the wall asks you to call a number and then someone with virtually no english remotely opens the door and instructs you to go upstairs. Our keys were uner the mats of our rooms. Fortunately we do speak french and did have a local phone to make calls otherwise I feel this would have been a difficult reception. The rooms are clean and well fitted with a coffee machine and a fridge. The fridge contained most of the next days breakfast. Our shower was not functioning fully as there was a hole in the cord for the handheld and our friends aircon was sending lots of water onto their floor.However the rooms have a great view to the cathedral and Maison Gustave is right in the heart of Narbonne and an easy walk to the main sights. Parking is difficult and the host gives no guidance on the nearby carpark which is not expensive. Weirdly the instruction to collect your breakfast from reception means that an again invisible host has left croissants and bread in a basket on the table by the front door. Having said all this it was a good stay but would have loved some unteraction with the host. It would be helpful to add some taxi contact numbers to the guide in the room.

The location was superb! It is right downtown and close to all main attractions.
The breakfast was fine but quite monotonous. We stayed for two nights so that was ok.
The owner is nice and responds quickly.
Please keep in mind that this is the European second floor, which is 3rd in US. Also, keep in mind a VERY narrow steep spiral of stone steps up.

The room was clean, the bed was comfortable.
Breakfast was a disappointment. The area was more noisy than promised and anytime other people went to the toilet or had a shower, we could hear it. There was no parking at the premises and the gardens were not part of the house.
