The Old Rectory Somerset

The house was beautiful with pretty gardens and meadows. Wonderful views from the meadow especially at sunset. Host Caroline was very welcoming and friendly. So much attention to detail in the bedrooms and bathrooms, with expensive brand shampoos, shower/bath gel and body lotion for general use. Bed was really comfortable with great weight duvets, pillows and crisply ironed cotton sheets! Had my best nights sleep for a long time. Nothing has been done or provided cheaply or any corners cut. Breakfast was superb. Lovely fresh fruit, Greek yoghurt and cereals, nuts, seeds and a full cooked breakfast with whatever combination you wanted. Caroline was the consummate host, cook, gardener and everything else in one person! Cannot recommend it highly enough. A real treat.

Wow, what an amazing home.. a mix of eras ( old and very old) but stuffed with Caroline’s fab tasteful array of items. The gardens are also her passion, large and loved, stunning roses and herbaceous borders. The host is so generous, allowing guests to help themselves to many options in drinks and biscuits. She is sooo welcoming and interesting to chat with too. We didn’t use the tennis court , rain stopped play, but guests can and it is nicely resurfaced. The breakfast is grand, so much choice and great quality. Thankyou so much, Caroline.

Absolutely nothing at all

The host was pleasant and took time to show us the property. The beds were comfortable. There was ample parking. The bathroom was a good size and clean.

There was no lock on the apartment door. There was nothing to stop anyone from entering your room and taking your property. I didn't feel safe when sleeping. The premises smelt musty, even with windows open. The place was heavily cluttered with ornaments, pictures, and unnecessary furniture. It's not practical when you have children. Two of the beds had dead moths on them. The curtains in the children's room had mould on them. Breakfast was limited. We had 2 slices of toast between four people! The eggs were uncooked. That was a lack of cutlery, lack of drinks, and lack of napkins. We didn't feel the property rating of 9.8 reflected our experience. The rating was one of the reasons we were attracted to the property.
