Three minutes after leaving Normandy Cottage, your feet can be in the sand. Back at this 1940s St. Simons cottage, the routine is simple: rinse off in the hot-water outdoor shower, turn the dogs loose in the fully fenced yard, and take a cold drink to the screened front porch. Live oaks shade the front yard, and the porch fan keeps the air moving when the afternoon gets warm.

Inside, everything is on one level, with hardwood floors, wide windows, a beadboard dining-room ceiling and open kitchen shelving. There is room for six around the dining table, though Crab Daddy’s and Barrier Island Brewing are both a 9-minute walk when nobody wants to cook.
