Good small hotel on the river bank, our room was spacious with a large balcony overlooking the river. Nice coffee/ snack kiosk outside. Parking easy.

The location of Beira Rio hotel is fantastic, with amazing views overlooking the river. Our bedroom was huge, with an enormous balcony — the perfect spot to sit and enjoy the sunset and the beautiful surroundings.
We also had access to the swimming pool, which is shared with the hotel next door. The hotel is just a short walk from the centre, making it easy to explore the charming whitewashed houses and beautiful castle.

Location, size of the room, ground floor, patio terrace, very helpful and friendly staff. Location of outside bar to room, food and drink prices competitive.
We were provided with a room for a disabled person as my wife has health issues which was excellent. However, she was needed help from me to use the other hotel facilities. The swimming pool was down a flight is stairs and the sunbeds down a further 2 flights. This meant to go to the toilet or swimming pool she had to ascend 2 flights of stairs and a further flight to get a drink from the bar. An amazing patio/ terrace outside the room but only a table and 2 chairs, provision of sunbeds here, would alleviate the aforementioned issues. No ramps or lifts, metal handrails too hot due to the heat to use. Mattresses needed for sunbeds as they were too uncomfortable due to poor quality, not enough sunbeds. Persistent ongoing issues with ants in the room despite bringing it to the attention of staff on 3 occasions. Poor design of shower and slow drainage of water led to bathroom being flooded. Staff stated nothing could be done about it but they did offer to change rooms for us. The walls are so thin that you could hear your neighbours, using the toilet, taking a shower, moving around and closing the door when entering and leaving the room.

Good location for reaching spots along the Guadiana river and Mertola cultural spots
The wifi did not work in our room and there was not a good enough response to resolve it. I ended up spending £50 tethering with my mobile.
