Idyllic

Idyllic, not too busy, clean, comfortable , plenty of parking space and bus stop in front of the hotel.

You do need to take the car or bus to get anywhere. The street isn't easily walkable.

Good

Very clean. Great location (even if the street was sometimes noisy) and amazing view over Funchal and on the ocean. Spacious room. Nice outdoor swimming pool with amazing view.

The continental breakfast was nothing special, and the service during breakfast was not great either. The hotel in general was a bit old fashioned. I was expecting something better for the price.

Very basic breakfast for four star hotel , need to improve , if You want 10 points of 10 for hotel ratings. Cofe is not cofe, its drink with cofe taste.

Very good despite disappointing weather

Lovely views over the Atlantic, Funchal and the sea port. Very good bus service. Excellent staff.

Unable to walk into Funchal as the road was too narrow and busy.

Breakfast didn’t cater to Irish taste. Dinner was good but the menu was as limited.

relaxing couple of days - shame about the weather

Great views, very clean property, good facilities, very comfortable bedroom and well equipped bathroom. bus stop right outside.

shower leaked, so mopping up reasonable amounts of water each day - impossible to stop it. bar wasn’t open and public areas lacked atmosphere at this time of year (early March). Quite a long walk to get to a restaurant or bar. outside of the hotel, area is rather scruffy

Relax, unwind, eat good food, a beautiful clean and wonderfully located family run hotel. Excellent !

The amazing views is of course something that has to be mentioned and cannot be missed, beautiful sunrise and sunsets and views across the bay, the lights of an evening at Christmas are stunning. The staff, all of them, area fabulous, nothing is a trouble. The food in the restaurant is also some of the best in Madeira, some say a little pricy but for us coming from the Uk the prices were average and not more than we expect. The rooftop pool and bar areas are a must see and if you care to walk you can quickly climb up hidden staircases outside the hotel and be over 1000ft above sea level, looking down on the world. This hotel is somewhere to completely unwind and decompress. There is a free shuttle bus down to the town which is very handy as you would not want to walk it, even for me this would be a push to do both ways. Food tip: if you like prawns - the garlic prawns with a bolo do caco is a must have, the portion sizes are generous for everything so sharing is a good option.

The only very small thing that let it down for me were no tea/ coffee making and no iron in the room (although the staff did iron an outfit for us when we asked for an iron, amazing!). I also hate plastic waste so please use a more sustainable shampoo/ body wash option & change to permanent glasses in the bathroom. Coffee and juice at breakfast could be better.

Other than the cold, everything was perfect - and in my opinion, if you take the holiday during the summer you won’t eve

location, furniture, bathroom everything was very clean friendly staff amazing view

- air conditioning was not working - the heating didn’t work at all and the room was rather cold - the water wasn’t warm enough - it took longer than 10 minutes for the water to reach at least body temperature but in combination with the cold room it was really uncomfortable to take a shower

Perfectly located

It’s 15 min away from airport, machico beach, and Formosa beach, 7min from Funchal town. U can get anywhere quick. Wonderful sea view on balcony. Just no coffee in room but u can bring it up at 7am enjoy the cup of coffee before going down for breakfast. Awsome friendly staff. The restaurant is a bit of a waiting time but absolutely worth it!!! Make sure to get the Taxiin local app. Cheap easy quick taxi rides so u don’t spend time on bus with too much people in these times of Covid. Relaxing & peaceful stay.

No beach (walking distance) but the pool & the view makes it all perfect again!

Disappointing 1 night stay

Spacious and comfy room with stunning views!

Room 306 on the 8/8/21 was without TV channels, no internet from the room, A/C not working so had to leave the doors open which is noisy from dogs barking and traffic and shower water was warm not hot!

Superb

The location is really good and it has a nice view to Funchal. The staff is super friendly. The room is really comfy and the bed was giant!

The breakfast could be more varied or they could give us different options.

Exceptional

Perfect location with a great view over the Funchal bay. We enjoyed the beautiful garden, swimming pool, and a sauna. Very nice staff, perfect service, good dinner in the hotel restaurant. Even though the place is a bit far from the city center of Funchal, it is accessible by a public bus or a shuttle bus.

Exceptional

I would recommend this hotel especially if you are looking for a place where you can spend some time just chilling in the swimming pool and enjoying the weather. Location is perfect, beautiful view from the roof terrace, rooms clean and comfortable, staff very friendly and professional. Plenty of space to relax by the pool and the garden next to it. There is a drinks/lunch bar next to the pool as well as pool table, sauna and spa room (spa sessions have to be pre ordered at reception). Restaurant offers delicious dinners.

My only suggestion would be to place the pool table in a room where is more place around. It is impossible to play as the pool stick does not fit around!

Not deserving the 4*

The pool is very cold but to lay out there on a sunny day is nice. But it has to be sunny and warm, otherwise a waste of time and money.

It should not be a 4* hotel. Old and heavy and uncomfortable furniture, very bad soundproofing (you hear everyone walking in any room close-by, the door to the balcony is also useless as the traffic sound is the same as if they were in the room), they charge extra for the use of the safe, there is no kettle or any coffee facilities, the fridge is very small, the rooms are in general not nice. The pool is too cold for anyone to swim in it. There were 2 people that tried and everyone called them heros. Why would someone make a pool and keep it so cold?!!! From the reviews on the breakfast I thought it would be at least serving pasteis de nata! But no... basic food, canned mushrooms and watery eggs, plastic cheese and ham, some fruits, sugary juices and horrible coffee and that's all. Not worthy... The staff are nice and trying but overall i would not stay there again. On top of everything, the internet was down during the whole 4-day stay. In a place that is not downtown to have access to other things, being left without internet was just not professional!
