It is in a great location and easily reachable from Kyoto Station. I really enjoyed the actual place, it has a very nice design and is incredibly accommodating. Beds are comfortable and clean. Staff was very nice and seems like a nice place to stay for an extended period.
It was a bit hot in the sleeping area. Other hostels of similar type I have stayed at in Japan have a fan or vent in the bed area.

It is quiet and away from the dense crowds while being close enough to the train station. Free coffee. They let us check in a bit early.
It felt like a prison. Concrete walls and floors that were hard on the joints. Also the split gender bathroom areas were odd. The mixed gender showers had dark mould and you had to restart the shower every few seconds.
