Bowman Lodge is a family-run guest house in the historic city of Chester. Known for its Roman walls, cobbled streets and Tudor buildings, Chester’s city center is around 20 minutes’ walk away, and the train station is within a 10-minute walk.

Close to everything needed including city centre and rail station. Lovely helpful owner who gave us plenty of Info on our surroundings. Property is cosy with a vintage vibe which may be perceived as outdated however, I think this is intentional. Lovely pillows on the bed and everything in the room functioning perfectly well. Tea, coffee and kettle provided and working tv.
The toilet and basin were well cleaned however the tiles behind the door and surrounding could do with a bit of a scrub. Some limescale around the shower and dirty mirror however, in no way was the room as a whole generally dirty just a few tweaks here and there.

Free parking was great. Mike the owner was friendly. Room was large. Close enough to the town to walk.
The towels and fitted sheet could do with a refresh.

The location was great and easy check in and communication with host.
The furniture and décor felt somewhat mismatched and dated, and the dark décor as you entered made the property feel a little gloomy and less welcoming than it could have been. Although everything was functional, I feel that a few small updates or investments in the room would have made it feel more comfortable and inviting. Unfortunately, I also found the mattress wasn’t particularly comfortable.
There was also a slight smell in the room, although I couldn’t identify where it was coming from — it may have been the bed, bathroom, or flooring. As I was mainly using the accommodation as a base to change and sleep, I didn’t investigate this further.
Overall, I appreciate that prices can be higher during race weekends, and the accommodation served its purpose. However, had it not been a race weekend, I feel there may have been more modern B&B or hotel options available locally for a similar price. For that reason, I didn’t feel it offered particularly good value for money on this occasion
